In this case, these two individuals were not merely involved in gambling but trying to cheat the sportsbook. If it was just a case of gambling participation, then they could have got scot free after paying a $2 fine. But with the cheating and fraud charges, they may be sent behind bars.

And there is not much the Indian embassy can do about this (first of all, I don't think that they will be much concerned). If a foreign citizen commits a crime within the Bangladeshi borders, then the legal action will be taken as per the prevailing Bangladeshi laws. At the most, the Indian embassy can provide the accused with access to lawyers so that they can defend themselves.

In their own country this will not be dealt with high concern, but the same will be taken additional priority by the cross country issues. True has been spoken. I already mentioned in this thread earlier that gambling is prohibited and it is considered as a crime here declared by High Court. So as per the law of their visited country, it is a crime and they maybe done that intentionally with sense. So they should be punished after completing all the formalities.

Going against the law will always be calling for such actions. So it was their own choice what they had to choose and choose wisely but apparently they thought to go other way and finally ended up getting caught on this. If people are so crazy or cannot control without living gambling then be in the country which legitimates accepts it so that you are free to gamble.

Yes it is easy to use VPN to hide their IP, but the thing is does this site will allow people to use IP? or to have different IP that is far from the previous one? that will result them from being banned if it is prohibited. Even in India, gambling is banned! However, a lot of people use small local gambling rackets to gamble on cricket which is the most popular game in India. As you have confirmed, it's the same with Bangladesh as well. So these people were rightfully charged as per the existing provisions of law! I don't think it is a matter great discussion. Rather it should serve as a warning for the people of those countries where gambling is banned!

BTW, are the cricket matches still stopping visitors at the playground due to COVID? I believe 30% capacity is what they are allowed for! Not sure what is the scene in Bangladesh!

Exactly, it is the waring for those who used to gambling and visited many countries. So they should know first gambling is legal or illegal in destination country. Otherwise, if they caught, they will be punished as per law of the destination country's law amd rules.

In Bangladesh, I don't hear such rules. Though I am not living the capital of the city. I live in a town where already organized cricket match which is free for all and people are gathered without any hesitation. That's the real scenario of Bangladesh.

Looks like double cheating! They violated both the governmental guidelines regarding gambling and betting rules, so it would be fair to say they have only themselves to blame. I realize that it's very tempting because with this strategy you can put all your money and assets and win a fortune, but that's also not fair and these people paid for it.

There are so many people that just make a lot of ways to gamble and it was just like small illegal gambling groups in differents games of whatsoever. There are some countries where not all kinds of gambling are prohibited and maybe they could still gamble at some point legally. I just wonder if it is just if they just do this crime all for money. I think it might be a big group of gamblers since they have the guts to do this in a country where gambling is illegal or somehow they might have a bit of protection.

Although these guys were caught, I strongly suspect that this may not be the first time that they are engaging in this sort of fraud. But it shows the incompetence of the sportsbooks as well. Before the pandemic, fans were allowed in to the stands legally. Back then, these guys could have made their bets in a perfectly legal manner, and made huge amount of money in profits. If the sportsbooks were unaware of the lag between live match and cricket coverage, then they don't deserve to be in the business.

Sportsbook earn a lot of money and most of the sportsbooks works on the odds provider data and odds they provide so I mean its not entirely the fault of the sportsbook because they are further dependent on their odds provider.

I believe these kind of incidents are very common and there are number of match fixing events too that happen in smaller leagues, I remember watching a clip of cricket which made me laugh my ass out. When they dream about making money from gambling, they will regret it because they do not know how much money they will lose because of playing gambling. They really need to search for other ways to make money and not depend on gambling. Dreaming big is necessary to make us work hard to earn money, but if that comes from gambling, I will not say that will be easy as many people already lose a lot of money by playing gambling. Like everyone i read the story after posting it here, from what is published and said above, Bangladesh has a strict policy on gambling and if that is the case the people arrested did not cheat anyone in that country nor any other country, if anyone has to file a complaint for cheating it is the sports book where they were gambling can do that and since gambling is not allowed you cannot file a case for cheating either .

If they sit inside their home, how can they know about what is happening in the match and modify their bets accordingly? As detailed by the OP, these scammers were making use of the lag between live match and TV coverage. They placed their spot-bets after the ball was delivered, but before it was shown in the TV. I need to congratulate the Bangladeshi police, for nabbing these guys. Indirectly they were causing loses to the other gamblers.
