From what i understand which i saw online they will be fined a minor amount of 100 Taka which is less than two dollar and an imprisonment of one month as per the laws and it is nothing big for someone who have the audacity to travel to Bangladesh and trying to take advantage of the telecast delay and then somehow manage to enter the stadium when audience are not allowed  .

I am afraid that they won't be able to get away with a 100 Taka fine. That is the penalty for going out without a mask or defying the social distancing norms. These guys were trying to cheat gambling sites and the amounts involved is quite large. I won't be surprised if they get some sort of prison term. And the nationality is going to be another problem. Coming to Bangladesh with a tourist visa, and indulging in this sort of behavior won't be taken lightly by the court.

The court can only follow the rules and legislation of the country and the maximum sentence according to the law is three months and i think you get three months if you are found repeating and a fine of 200 Taka. Moving around without mask will not carry a jail sentence, the most they will do is fine for not following the pandemic protocol. You need to understand prostitution is legal in Bangladesh and to have a complete ban on gambling is ridiculous and anyone from the country can vouch for that.

Big giveaway that tapped their location to the police is the fact that they are out in the oublic gambling instead of inside the comfort of their houses, these guys must be so confident of their skills that they felt untouchable. They were not arrested for simply engaging in gambling. Obviously gambling is banned in Bangladesh because they still have the stone age mentality, but if the cops catch you while gambling, you will be able to get yourselves free after paying a fine of around $2. Here the case is different and I believe it was explained in detail in the previous posts by various users.

These three were trying to cheat the sportsbooks, by making the bet after the ball was bowled. There is a lag in the live TV coverage, which some of the sportsbooks were not aware of. These guys would watch the live match in the stadium. After watching each ball, they would make a bet. They win every time, because they already know about the outcome.

In other words they asked for it.When they knew that in Bangladesh is forbidden any kind of gambling,their only choice was a VPN and cryptocurrency betting and they did not choose this.Any other option for them would have led them to arrest one time which unfortunately did.The lesson to be learned here is to only use tools which don’t compromise your freedom when betting in a country like Bangladesh where gambling is not allowed.

Isn't the betting closes before matches starts, so sneaking in is not necessary. So the delays when will it post is not necessarily the reasons why they are arrested, but a evidence. or am I wrong?

These people were extremely stupid. They sneaked in to a stadium, from where viewers were prohibited, and that too with their laptops. Even in a packed stadium, if you go with a laptop and do funny stuff, people will notice you. I am afrad that there is more to the story than published in the media. These guys could have probably bribed some of the security staff to ensure access to the stadium. Else how could they go to the stadium with such confidence, when strict security protocols are in place?

Like everyone i read the story after posting it here, from what is published and said above, Bangladesh has a strict policy on gambling and if that is the case the people arrested did not cheat anyone in that country nor any other country, if anyone has to file a complaint for cheating it is the sports book where they were gambling can do that and since gambling is not allowed you cannot file a case for cheating either .

You have a good point and yeah you cannot file  a complaint about cheating but you can directly inform the authority and they will be arrested instantly because of illegal activities .

You would really be imprisoned if you do really tend to get involved in places or things which are illegal or not simply being regulated or known by the governement.
I dont see for it to be sad into those violators because its clear and someone could able to tell to themselves that theyre dealing in something which is prohibited.
Once caught then you do have the option to defend yourself but of course that would really be on your own total expense.So its just too unfortunate.

As far as I know these people are not bangladeshi, they are indians and not muslims, so the bangladeshi authorities could respect their culture and way of life and not prosecute them for that, moreover the article says gambling "is rampant during cricket matches" in Bangladesh.

They were committing so many crimes that it is difficult to know exactly what charges were brought against them, first of all they were trespassing in a game that was supposed to not accept public, so that is one crime, then gambling in that country is illegal there so that is two crimes already, then they were using cryptocurrencies which are illegal there as well if I remember correctly so that is three crimes, and finally they were cheating the casinos as well, so yeah those guys are in deep trouble.
