I messed up pretty bad this morning, I got 4 risers I was trying to install and I mistakenly insert one riser in the wrong direction, I saw a smoke from the slot and I instantly remove the riser but little do I know that my gpu won't ever display again

Oops, I believe only a beginner can make sure mistake, anyways there is always a first time for everything, it happened to me once, it was a new card and I've not even make 30% ROI back on the card, next time you got to be careful, throw the card away because it's never going to work

Are you sure the card is dead? Find another PC and insert the card but insert HDMI display cable on motherboard instead of the card itself, if your motherboard don't have hdmi use vga and go through gpuz or msi afterburner to see if the card is detected

Sorry for your loss, we can't learn without big mistakes sometimes, I'm sure this happened to lots of people on here already, since you ordered for four risers then you have 4 graphics cards, it's not over mate, be strong

🤔 damn! You must have put the 12v on 3v in the PCie slot, forget that PCIe slot cos it's never going to work again and also the graphic card must have taken high voltage hit too, this was how I killed a R9 380 when it was freaking costly years ago, be more careful next time when dealing with risers

I still don't believe the card is dead, there must be a molex that took the current and died that's why the gpu isn't displaying, I'm not sure you can return even if warrant still covers the gpu since this is on your end, you made the mistake so there is no way out here than try to fix it or give a qualified personal to check it out, the chances of working is pretty low

I have to agree with the subject. It's also difficult mistake to make, it should have been obviously wrong just by looking at it before reconnecting the power.
There is likely colateral damage: the GPU, the mobo (if you're lucky only 1 dead slot), the riser. Test everything seperately to be sure.

Mistake is mistake, I'm guessing OP is a newbie to crypto mining, that can be another reason for the easy mistake, now I'm sure such will never happen again because it's going to be painful to lost such valuable item just like that, OP will learn big from this

Is this a joke post? How do you plug in a riser in the wrong direction? Do you have a pic? Are you referring to the part that goes in the 1x slot?

there are 2 ways to do it. it had a four pin molex and he put the molex in upside down. or he plugged the 1x pcie in backwards. both are possible to do. but the card may have survived and the riser died. or the pcie slot died on the mobo. If the card was perfectly new and never used and no longer works it does not mean he killed the card. Since he never tested it and knew it to work he can say it never worked and not be lying if he wants an rma. He may have just killed off the riser and or the pcie slot and the new card came doa. It can not be sure if it happened the way I just said. For instance I have 13 amd 5500 16 amd 5600 15 amd 5700 44 good cards and 2 DOA asus dual 5700 xt So if that happened to me on 2 of 46 cards I would not be at fault and on the other 44 I would be at fault. Just saying maybe the op has legit wiggle room.

It's very possible, grab a motherboard you aren't using and a bad riser connector to give a try you will see that it's 💯 possible, I killed a Nvidia card this way some time ago and it thus affects me because I couldn't get my ROI faster

The funny part is riser still works, only the connector to motherboard burns but the pcie slot and riser cable works very well, now the card isn't displaying anymore, I've tried in 5 different motherboards just to confirm but no luck

As the motherboard start smoking I instantly remove the riser but it was too late, another mistake is the motherboard was in idle mode, If I've pulled the plug I may have been suspicious about how I connected the riser, it happens very fast, here is the end result

You may be in luck. You can try reading the technical documentation and figure out what this contact is responsible for. If the video chip is damaged as a result of a short circuit, sell the video card for spare parts. Be careful and take your time.

You can get a brand new
