Actually, I heard the same thing happen to someone here I just can't remember the title of the thread.
He also sent almost all personal documents but in the end, his account blocked.

I have some of the BTC on Xapo earn from faucets before and I'm sure it will also happen to me if I attempt to recover my wallet. I'm not desperate to submit my documents and we don't know they might use our documents for scamming purposes.

Just adding this old thread.

-Xapo wallet sucks. Stole $10 worth of Bitcoin until I provide all types of ID's

Why not directly ask them through their email and ask about this issue here's the email support@xapo.com
Just got an idea from this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5197675.0 who solved the same issue.
Can't really say that I'm glad that I'm not alone. Their support was a pain in the ass to start with, I had a few mBTC from faucets too. It's not a tremendous amount, but why should I let them have it? I could use of some extra cash, that I'd put back into holding more Bitcoin. I uploaded all my documents just to block me right when my verification wasn't "enough" for them.

Saw the thread, but if I am not mistaken, it's a slightly different case. I've contacted them already using their form on the website. Will also try emailing them using the one you mentioned.

Thanks!

i have similar issue like you. i used xapo when i still play faucet back then.
when i want to login on my old account around december 2020, they force me to do KYC for few satoshi left.
but in the end i did it. it took me for almost 1 month to take back my btc
I also gave them a ton of information before they blocked my account, they claimed that I only a few Satoshi on my account, I remember having more to be honest. Thinking back, I might have actually moved them before I stopped using their service, so I can't really blame them for something I'm not sure, chances are, I had.

Pretty unprofessional to request a ton of information and then proceed to block me though.

Why would proceed if you do know that you do only have less bitcoin on that wallet? You do have the free will if its really worth the risk on giving out your identity or not
for such amount but well its your money and decision, whats done is done already.Lets hope that those info's wont leak out everywhere.

There are actually old similar situations like these.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3003842.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1903062.0

If ever you intend on using up a particular service or platform then why others just cant simply make out their own research for them to
avoid such problems?
I remember having a decent amount of BTC there, that's why I provided them with any details they requested. It looked like a legitimate company and not some scam artists. Well I was wrong, they blocked my account and chances are, I didn't have any BTC there left. I remember moving them to some other wallet many years ago.

I used XAPO a long time ago and i still remember that they offer zero transaction fee if you want to withdraw funds from their wallet. Long ago we had only two popular online wallets one being XAPO and other one is still active, coinbase.  Thanks god i quit using it and withdraw my funds long ago when they were legit.
It used to offer a few useful services, but it has gone downhill. There's no point anymore. Faucets have died, Xapo's basic concept has swiftly changed and their policy is awful. I don't remember the no fee option though, I think it was between Xapo wallets if I remember correctly.

This is correct. Zero fee transactions only apply for internal transfers between Xapo wallets. If am not wrong, they used to charge a miners fee when withdrawing to an external wallet depending on the priority level you choose.
I stopped using their services since the date they updated their privacy policy and introduced the kyc requirement besides blocking some countries.
I might be wrong but I think there aren't many users who are still interested in their services.

They become obsolete after that update they implement, it's nonsense, transitioning from a normal web wallet to kyc required wallet. It could be reasonable if they are an exchange that has large volume of trades but its not. Also the issues and complains are rampant, some asked kyc and complied, then closed their accounts.

There are still quite a few wallets that don't require KYC (I've used BitGo and was never asked for anything), Xapo even disabled their web wallet, it only works through a mobile app. A once useful service, has now gone downhill. There's no point of using them anymore.

They are creating a disaster which can make their users get angry to them, I'm not using this wallet for almost a year since I don't really trust those wallet who ask for KYC, I heard those series of complains thats why I doubt to use them again so if users will think about using them well they should make sure for theirselves to accept some consequences. I don't mean Xapo will turn scam but we should alwats think about that way so that we can step away on upcoming scams.

Sometimes i understand what xapo is doing. Their main object is make a bitcoin based debit card. You can pay/withdraw your bitcoin into your bank account. Ofcourse, It's required KYC but unfotunately they force all their own user who doesn't withdraw their bitcoin into fiat.
They said no exception Cheesy Cheesy

Xapo and coinbase never charged transaction fees until the network started to congest and if I remember correctly coinbase started charging withdrawal fees initially and then Xapo followed and coinbase changed their business model and so does xapo but one is successful in their transition while Xapo is still struggling with regulatory hurdles even though they started providing debit cards for limited countries.

Hello,
I used to have a wallet on Xapo, it's since 2014 when faucets were popular back then. I managed to recover my account after a quite tiring process, due to their lack of support mostly. After logging in successfully, I was asked for verification, provided my driver's license, a photo of myself and a bank statement from Revolut (It was the only one I had in handy).

After a while, my account was blocked and this is what I received, "Unfortunately, due to compliance or regulatory reasons, we can no longer provide you with our services.". That's it, I cannot even login to my account, which has a balance of a few mBTC. Just like that, I am blocked and haven't even been told why.

What can I do now? Probably nothing I guess.

The same thing happened to me, I remember there was a balance of 0.012 btc and about 1.35 BCH and it was not active for more than 2 years, when I installed Xapo wallet and login they was blocked my account, after send an email and they answer make me disappointed.

Unfortunately, due to compliance or regulatory reasons, we can no longer provide you with our services.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. We appreciate your time with us and we wish you all the best.

Sincerely,
The Xapo Compliance Team

It is quite justified for someone to deny the provision of their services at a certain moment, this usually happens because companies have to adapt to the new legislation and have no choice. What is completely unjustified is the retention of clients ’funds, and if you ask me it is completely illegal and has no legal basis.

As far as I can see people are complaining about their actions everywhere because they have literally lost everything they had in their accounts - which is again a big warning to anyone who has ever wanted to use any custodial service - after all it means you can lose everything you have if you are not your own crypto bank.

Almost opened an account with them back then in 2016 when I was a newbie after a suggestion from a friend, but then I stumbled upon coinbase. I think it was a popular service back then before they started to fuck things up.

Recently while watching some crypto documentary on Alijazeera, one of the people who was interviewed was Wences Casares, their CEO and Cofounder who claimed that they have a custodial service which is keeping Bitcoins worth billions of dollars for their clients in a secret decommissioned military banker.

Now, if this is how a service claiming to "securely" keep such amounts of money treats other customers, then it's really something very sad.

I also read something like that, the bunker is in the mountain in Switzerland. I don't know if that's true. 5 years ago i used xapo very intensively, at the time it was a nice solution, fast, safe and inexpensive.

Mannn. and here I was under the impression the situation is similar to bittrex and poloniex who has lost a very large portion of existing and potential users because of the strict KYC and unprofessionalism, it seems they doing an effective marketing...

Then again, there's always a fair chance it's all a lie or the stolen funds for years are a major contributor 🤭

That's exactly the same message I received, fortunately, after tracking my transactions from other wallets etc, I found out that most of my money had been moved to BitGo, which was inactive for more than 2 years, my balance was intact.

I completely agree, I stopped using online wallets ever since. The BitGo one at least provided me with a PDF which included the private keys.

I also read something like that, the bunker is in the mountain in Switzerland. I don't know if that's true.

I was watching a documentary on national TV and the journalist team entered that bunker after a few months of waiting - security measures are really at a high level - it seems to such an extent that even legitimate users cannot get their funds.

Can you explain how your funds from Xapo were transferred to BitGo? While it really seems weird to me, maybe other users might try to get their coins in a similar way.

I might have not expressed what I meant to say correctly. I remember having some BTC on Xapo, acquired many years ago from faucets. What I didn't remember though, was that I had transferred most of my funds before this whole incident happened. Most was fortunately transferred, I suspect that approximately one mBTC was left in Xapo, which is a lost cause now.

Has anyone received the latest email from Xapo, basically they will close the service and give 30 days to withdraw, unfortunately my account is blocked.

What's next?

Withdraw your funds within 30 days of this communication to avoid being charged a $50 account closure fee (in BTC or other account currencies). If funds remain after this fee is charged, we’ll debit a monthly fee of up to $50 until the balance is depleted, or has been claimed by contacting us.

Check out our guide to withdrawing your funds if you need a hand.

Please note that after the 30-day period following this notice, you’ll lose access to your account as it will be permanently closed. Though your funds will remain safe, you may face serious delays and additional fees when contacting us to claim your remaining balance.

With this in mind, we strongly suggest that you withdraw your funds at your earliest convenience.

They are completely ridiculous, haven't received it myself since they have already blocked and closed my account, confiscating any balance left in it. They are charging a $50 closure, which will be debited monthly if you don't contact them in time. I highly doubt that they will even hand you your own money, after what I saw from my experience.

I don't understand how they expect you to withdraw your money, yet the account is still blocked Embarrassed

This is broad daylight robbery. In all my years trading crypto. I have never seen an exchange or casino charge a closure fee and monthly fee for the unclaimed assets.

Have you tried reaching out to their customer support?

Probably requesting a bunch of documents, like they did to me, and then proceed with withdrawing your balance to another wallet. Their support, however, sucks, they often wouldn't reply, and when they did, it was something irrelevant from what I asked.

This is one few reasons why I uninstall my xapowallet and shift to other more reliable wallets than this the hassle for bringing up some documents is so irrelevant. We valued our safety but asking to much is really not good since giving to much like this is not totally good.

So best to avoid this wallet since there are so many options available.
