The Government of Dubai's Media Office has stated rumours of licensed gambling in the city are false.

The misinformation was spread on social media regarding several hotels in Dubai that allegedly obtained licenves for gambling activity.

The rumor stated the licences would allow venues to offer gambling services to visitors as early as mid-May, with the start of the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

Gambling is illegal under UAE law and those engaging in the activity could be fined anywhere between AED250,000 ($54,459) and AED500,000. Illegal activities include creating, managing or supervising gambling-related content.

Currently, the city has no plans to legalise casino gaming or sports betting; however, there are several horse racingvenues, which do offer guests a limited chance to punt on horses without breaking the law, though this service is very strictly regulated.

Last year, Dubai’s police launched an app where people can report suspicious activity. The app can be used both by tourists and residents alike. Additionally, in 2020, the Dubai Government shut down gambling kiosks that targeted low-income workers.

The activity was called Lucky Game and allowed players to draw envelopes with a chance to win prizes.

Managers of the kiosks argued they were offering prizes, not cash, so the service was not illegal, but the authorities shut the kiosks down due to exploitative practices; ensuring all raffles in Dubai are monitored by Dubai Economy and any similar activity should be reported.

Plus they also have a hefty fine. Therefore if you were to engage with such hotels you would loose a lot more definitely!!

Other than that people in the UAE can actually gamble :
1. They can gamble in offshore casinos (online)
2. Use foreign currency

Since this is not stated in the laws so this is all you guys can try other than that be careful.

I am not gambling in Dubai anytime soon but thanks for the heads up, this is just another case in which what we read on social media turns out to be false, which is why I do not use that way to inform myself and I do not take it seriously, can you imagine the amount of misinformation that is moving there if the government of Dubai has to come forward and actually say the rumors are false? Obviously I would have hoped for them to change their posture but if they do not want to do so and as long as that is crystal clear that is fine for me.

As far as I know Dubai has gambling laws (UAE) which can catch gambling addicts, and end up in jail or a fine of 250k dirham, This penalty applies to anyone, gambling site managers, players, broadcasters etc.
I already suspect that the gambling issue in Dubai be carried out by irresponsible people.

Since this is not stated in the laws so this is all you guys can try other than that be careful.

Gambling isn't legal everywhere. We have to look for the regulations every country has on gambling.
This is the main reason why many websites have blocked gambling.
We should not believe everything posted on the internet. We should always do our research well and get the information from multiple sources.
Just like a bicoin transaction needs atleast 2-3 confirmations on the blockchain, we should atleast look for the same on 2-3 sources

I do think at the end of the day it is the decision of the Government as long as the Government is not allowing we should not interfere and also be careful. I do think that it was rather a big problem since the Government had to step forward. Plus it shows how social media can't be trusted especially for these things.

Yes I also believe that even if we are gambling we should do it responsibly, legally and be careful about where we are gambling. That is why online gambling platforms are now adding all their legal licence and even adding responsible gambling section there for people. We should make a good use of it.

Quite interested. Why dont these hotels get banned before players can join the casinos? I mean, if they strictly prohibit gambling, are there any real hotels operating illegal casinos just to trap visitors?

UAE and Dubai are apparent developed countries with a lot of achievement since they were established. But from what I observe, the government seems a little bit dictatorial due to many preposterous laws as well as discriminate women' rights.

Perhaps Dubai is only good for one-time traveling. Living here is too stifling, even when you are wealthy. Gamblers here probably use cryptocurrency gambling platform to express their desire, some might even bribe the government (if they are rich enough) to maintain a private casino for the rich

Thank you for giving such important information. A friend's son went to Dubai on tourist visa and is actually there for a job. He's too addicted to gambling that wherever he sees a casino, he starts betting (my friend is rich so...). His son was in Europe some time ago but is now in Dubai, I will warn him about this and ask him that if he wants to gamble, he can use online gambling sites instead of gambling on an illegal casino in a hotel there.

While these Gulf states are becoming more and more liberal every year, at the end of the day there are limits and Muslim countries have traditionally taken a very hard stance against gambling. It might eventually reach a stage where, like drinking alcohol, it is possible for foreigners to do it legally while locals are still banned. However this news shows that they are still a long way off and they probably faced some pressure from hardline Saudi Arabia. If it does ever happen, it'll probably be restricted to offshore islands because they'll want to keep tight control over it. There are already enough gambling destinations around the world, it is the last thing on my mind when thinking about activities to do in Dubai - they already have lots of other world-beating things on offer.

I thought that of all the provinces of UAE, Dubai has the most lenient rules when it comes to recreational activities. I heard that they also operate clubs there and the access to alcohol is not that strict compared to other provinces. Given by these facts, I also thought that gambling activities are not completely prohibited but closely regulated by the Government. This is good information that should be shared and be known to people and gamblers who plan on visiting the country.

Probably this is foolish from UAE... many rich people would gamble a lot, so they could make some nice profit for the country, but like this, they are stating "we don't wish to have anything with gambling"! This information is really beneficial for people who live and also visit Dubai but I hoped there would be discussion around gambling subject too (but I'll start).

I just don't really understand why gambling isn't legal, especially in this country. I know the reason behind it but seriously, these people move to other countries to gamble and fill the budget of other countries while they could benefit for themselves and huge amount of money wouldn't go from their country. It will be beneficial for their economics too.

Despite the fact that it's rumor, for me, still sounds like an idea that shouldn't be a rumor but a real announcement. Hope you guys don't get wrong with me, I know the reasons behind it but from what I see, the legalization of gambling should be better for their society.

Indeed, it's totally banned in their country as it contradicts with their faith and religion. But the problem here was initiated by non muslim gambling operators that ran both physical and online gambling system. They're good on that certain situation which keep themselves discreet towards government law pursuit. Because if they were caught in the act and proven guilty, I'm sure that they'll get into prison and worst judgement is sentence to death.

Dubai is technology wise well developed. The City areas were well maintained and the same serves as the attraction. Dubai is getting preferred by European country people for the luxury living. However the government always stays within the control on certain things, and one such is the gambling. Earlier one of my friend used to gamble on directbet, but to access the platform he uses VPN. Same as gambling, if you're found having porn contents on the mobile you'll be getting hefty penalty.

I think, they do have clubs, party but when it comes to gambling, this country is clear that they do not permit it to legally operate. So it means, gambling is illegal and if you are found that you are dealing with gambling activities, then, it is for you to accept certain punishment. You can gamble but you are taking the risk to be punished by their laws.
