"Goldman Sachs banker quits after making millions on cryptocurrency" - That's the headline on one of CNBC article

Quote
~ Aziz McMahon, Goldman’s managing director and head of emerging market sales in London, quit after making millions of pounds from a bet on the digital currency ether, three former employees at the investment bank told CNBC.

~ McMahon is believed to have cashed in at least £10 million ($14 million) worth of cryptocurrency, the sources said.

~ When approached by CNBC, Goldman Sachs confirmed McMahon’s departure but declined to comment any further.

I purposely left out the coins he bought and profited from because it's irrelevant. The guy must be earning big already given his former position but it took investment in cryptocurrency to quit his job.

How about you? Do you see yourself quitting your day job after this current bullrun? I hope you make enough to start with a business of your own.

I don't have any work and I would probably not work if this current bullrun becomes profitable than I and many could've expected. But let's put it in hypothetical terms for me, if my job pays better and isn't a toxic one then probably quitting isn't the best option but if it is the other then I would definitely quit.

Many people already did. Whoever started buying crypto last year made at least x10 returns. Depending on how much they invested, that kind of returns are usually enough for most people to retire peacefully.

Might be that's the reason btc not making a new high. If sellers > buyers, price go down. $48k right now. Not looking good.

I know some people who quit in their job because of cryptocurrency but if you ask me if I will quit my job then I will and to be honest with you, I don't have a job to quit if ever that it will also happen to me. Sadly, I don't see myself quitting after this bullrun. I was hoping that I can start a small business for daily needs.

This is not a new situation, people around the world have become rich by investing in cryptocurrencies, there was talk on the forum about some people who allegedly also resigned after making large profits from cryptocurrencies ( Former Employees From Major South Korean Firms Quit Their Jobs After Pocketing Millions in Crypto Profits ). Some people set goals for themselves, and when they reach that goal they simply turn a new page in life.

I think that giving up a day job still depends on what each person does, I would never leave a well paid and easy job just because I profited from crypto - unless I decide to start my own business, which is not something for which every man is capable. You need to weigh the risks well, because otherwise you can lose your job and lose everything you earned from crypto - there is a fine line between success and failure.

I don't see myself doing that. Maybe if I make millions like those guys I'll do it, but right now it's not possible. Crypto is the world I live in, while it's not perfect it's suitable for my goal.

Unless I can find a job where I can make thousand of dollars each month in my country, quitting crypto is riskier than quitting my main job right now.

Personally I'm still not a graduate yet to actually have a good job to quit in the first place Grin but hypothetically, if I had a job that I like, no matter my financial position, I would never quit my job. My perception of life has changed radically, I always used to believe one day, I'll be very rich and quit every work and live the rest of my life in peace. But what I have understood is, there's really never a life like that, because the "peace" is nothing but boredom, and getting detached from the world means one will be ancient in no time! Hence, it's rather fun to stick with it and do some productive works for full life.

The guy must be earning big already given his former position but it took investment in cryptocurrency to quit his job.
Yes, of course, there's always going to be the factor with the fact that he can earn with his current job but with his assets that have accumulated, it's enough to not do anything anymore and just enjoy the rest of his life not working. I think a lot of people's goals are to have enough amount of money and then start up their own thing or possibly retire.

How about you? Do you see yourself quitting your day job after this current bullrun? I hope you make enough to start with a business of your own.
If I manage to earn that kind of money in my investments, I would quit as well. I mean, I wouldn't want to have to report to a boss anymore. It's good to be your own boss unless your company would let you be one of the top executives and decision-makers, maybe that's a great gig to have even if you are already filthy rich. Imagine having that kind of money, it's going to be a lot of fun to help people that really need it. It's going to be life-changing for them. I hope I can achieve that.

I currently have a couple of crypto jobs right now. If I had that big amount, I would choose not to quit even after this bullrun until my guts tell me that it’s the right time. Let’s say if I had that amount, I would maintain my job while diversifying my funds to invest in real assets like land, property, etc., or starting a passive income business with real products, etc. Coz’ for me, having no work makes me bored. Like my parents right now, they are both retired and no work, and they admitted that they are bored and looking to work on something.

IDK, if one millionaire made millions for himself and leaving the market then its all fine. There will always be another one standing right after him to make his own millions and who knows billions too!

This market is non ending because we have numerous millionaires who will always be there to earn crypto profits from it.

Hell, I am not quitting myself from the market until I make my millions, Oh wait, may be not after that. The quest continues for the billions; who knows!  Cheesy

Nah I don't see myself quitting my job for crypto as I consider crypto as "Secondary source of income" and it won't change.

Yes it can gain more profit than my primary job but the stability is not the same, my income will never be more or less, and it will always be a profit, while in trading, it can be a profit or a loss.

It is actually possible to quit working and be a full time trader. It is actually also possible to make so much money from an investment that you quit working - any type of work.
I am currently not working and I do not intend to work at all because I am making enough money already. Why put myself through the stress of waking up everyday to attend to a work that's gonna take the whole of my day when I have the alternative of making money in a less stressful way?
Trust me, a lot of people are gonna quite their works after this bullring because they are going to make a lot of profits.

Plus, if you’re still holding it in crypto you’re at enormous risk is losing it because of the volatility, so retiring with a lot of a speculative asset as your nest egg would be extremely risky.

No, I won't leave my stable job for crypto though I can't deny the fact that crypto is now my primary source of income but since it's volatile, we can't rely on it especially during the dip. The market situation isn't stable and anything could happen at any time. Instead of leaving my job, I would prefer to do both at the same time. It's just a matter of proper time management.

Some of us are in crypto for too long already... we will stay in crypto even if Bitcoin goes back to 0! Of course, that's not possible... but except for profit, some of us had a lot of fun with crypto over the years as well, so we will stay here... we will make some money, we will have fun with discovering so many new things! And in crypto, every new day brings many new things! Just turn around and try to compare the current state of crypto with crypto 3-5 or more years ago...
Basically, there's not quitting while the music plays! And somehow I believe that the music will not stop playing! Smiley

When the 2018 dump occured after the surprising bull run, I actually quitted but now that I have been given another opportunity to right my wrong and make the most beneficial decisions, I will never ever abandon bitcoin again no matter what. I lost hope during that time as I saw my investment going down so I started panic selling, after a long while bitcoin stayed down low. I thought at first it will never be able to come back strong once again but I was so amazed on how high it went last year. I will never waste this opportunity again and will do anything to gain much benefit from it.

Good point. It's about the journey as well as the destination. Once you get enough money to retire would be interesting to consider what to do with it - all in crypto, or diversify a bit?

I do, at least almost two months I quite my trading activity and also withdrawn all my investing fund. Especially when bitcoin price is failed to passed $66000 as its all time high I just doubt to make an entry. But, everyday I always make make an analsyt at least to see the market movement.

It is not about I get a huge profit or I enjoy with that but I see another reason on that. Like, I just focus on long entry position comparing to short position and almost my analyst just refer to short entry position and I'm not comfortable with that. And now my prediction is happening, almost crypto currency price including bitcoin is decreasing.

I don't think I would but I might take a rest or wait for all time low before bouncing back to it, I've seen a lot of investors earning less after the bullrun its not bad but rather than trying to get something out of it I would try to explore more options first then come back when things are stable, because I remembered that after the bull run in 2018 everything went pretty bad and it took at least a year to stabilize and have a positive market. Bullrun doesn't happen quite frequent but when it does I can always get an advantage off it and lay low when it ended.

To long term investors after the bullrun is where they find the right price so they can wait until the bullrun happen again then sell it, so I don't think there would be a lot of people to quit investing or trading after the bullrun at least the experienced once will always stay.

Do you see yourself quitting your day job after this current bullrun?
No.  I don't have enough skin in the game (not even close) to quit my job and run away to some tropical island with a fat pile of crypto profits.  That might be doable for a Goldman Sachs banker who had enough capital to plow into the market, but not me.  Nor would I know what to do with myself if I wasn't working.  I'd prefer doing something useful with my life over just being rich and being fat and lazy.

But that's just me.  There are so many people getting rich right now that it's almost unbelievable--just think about anyone who had 1 million doge from when it was worth a fraction of a penny.  They now have more than most people have in their retirement accounts after working all of their lives.  Crazy.

You’d have to have invested, at minimum, hundreds of thousands of dollars in order to have made enough to retire peacefully, and I doubt it’s all that many people in that boat.
Nowadays, I kind of wonder about that.  See my example of the doge-illionaires above, and think about all these professional Youtubers making big bucks for making videos.  There's so much money floating around right now that there likely are a lot of young people with enough money to retire immediately if they wanted to.
