Right, we haven't seen this virus before and scientist are still working and see how it will mutate. So even with 2 shots of vaccine, we are still not safe and this could really be the new norm moving on with human history.

So everyone is affected even us gamblers, and the only way to continue our gambling habits is to go online and be safe. Maybe there are still old and traditional players who would like to be on a land base casinos, but they have no choice as well, but to adapt and embrace online casinos now and that could explain the rise in numbers.

That peak also called my attention. Of course a kind of hype was created on July 2020, but just lasted shortly. I believe it could have been due to a heavy advertisement marketing strategy of some casinos that made so many people interested in online gambling at same time. However, as we can see only bitcoin and crypto gambling searching terms kept rising during the following months.

You're right our country have experienced similar online gambling growth. According to a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in the Philippines, 75 percent of respondents stated playing online games as of March 2020. The majority of the respondents were highly engaged in online gaming, while only 24 percent weren't. It means last year when pandemic start (first lockdown period) a lot of people use their time in playing online games while staying at home.

The spike happened very quickly around the middle of 2020, probably just a month long. The big rise was observed in July but was probably already started falling as soon as August came.

I am sure that at that time, the pandemic was still at its height and tight restrictions were still at place. There was no vaccine yet at that time. I don't think there was a significant easing up of business restrictions and the overall movement of people during that certain period when the spike happened.

It is still interesting to find out how did that shark fin-like spike came to be.
