I'm surprised this is happening with LTC since worthless coins like Dogecoin and SHIBA are getting all of the attention in the mainstream world. Unlike the aforementioned coins, Litecoin with only 84 million coins that will ever exist. One thing for sure is that Litecoin is faster and cheaper than Bitcoin. If DOGE went all the way from being worth nothing all the way to nearly $1 per coin, then Litecoin can do much more than that.

Last time I've checked, LTC developers announced the "Mimblewimble" privacy technique. I don't know if it's already been implemented since I haven't been catching up with the project's progress. Adding new features to a Blockchain should make the underlying cryptocurrency soar all the way to the moon. Yet, nothing is happening as LTC remains stagnant in price.

Am I missing something here? What do you think may be the cause of Litecoin's stagnation? Will it have a future? Do you think it is worth buying and holding for the long term just like Bitcoin? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Litecoin wasn't stagnant, I remembered there was a time in 2020 its price was $40, it increased to over $300 this year, which means it is not stagnant, but it is not increasing to the extent you expected, but it actually increased. Litecoin was part of the first seven cryptocurrencies in marketcap but now fourteenth. One of the reason I think litecoin lack behind is that it does not have tokens, just like DeFi projects that also will increase its price, if its blockchain supports many tokens like ethereum, its price would have increased more. I think litecoin is worth holding as it will not be the only coin your are holding, it is possible there will be one time its price will increase than expected.

It's because there's no one to shill Litecoin, that's why the price is tanking.

So it's a so-so performance, no update on the devs, while other altcoins are busy updating and releasing new version. So obviously, investors are not sold on Litecoin right now, they would rather put their money on something that will make it grow, like ADA, Doge and others. But the LTC devs are not really that active in posting their updates. Or maybe they are just waiting the right time to shine in the market. It is one of the old alts that I can say, pretty much established in the market. And I do agree with you about its economical fees and the fast duration of transfer. I hope, a lot more will utilize its features, even merchants or e-commerce companies. A very good alternative to bitcoin in the payment aspect.

Litecoin has no an interesting development progress. that being said that if people didn't even feel interested to buy litecoin. You can see that there are bunch of new promising projects that developed better tech than litecoin.
I can pick matic as an example and this coin is going so crazy after it already launched its protocol with so many utility usage. It can also be used to bridge with some chains like ethereum, BSC and many more.
The utility usecase must become the main reason why litecoin is not so attractive.

I own a little bit of litecoin because I was trying to save on fees a few weeks ago. The price has gone down more than BTC I believe. It seems that people have forgotten about it because we hear very little about it in the media. I'm not sure they have very much development going on. The announcement was 2 years ago and that partnership has yet gotten real product. I wish that Litecoin team will finish that upgrade soon in order to take advantage of the bull run of Bitcoin.

This year I also decided to work more with LTC and decided to hold onto this coin in the hope of good growth. However, in the first phase of growth in 2021, the LTC price was only able to reach its previous high. To be honest, I expected more, but unfortunately the miracle did not happen. What's going on? It's hard to say, but I hope that in the second phase of growth in the crypto market, which should be at the end of 2021, there is hope that LTC will still show good growth. It seems to me that Litecoin's development progress is quite slow. A lot can happen in the crypto/Blockchain space within a year from now. The much-awaited privacy feature could keep things going for Litecoin once it's released by 2022. It would be worth waiting for its implementation as long as developers make it as perfect as possible. Testing a new feature before release is key to ensuring its stability and reliability in the long run. Where Litecoin's price will move to after the upgrade, is the real question. I'm hoping its goes higher in price once Mimblewimble is released. But without a proper marketing/promotion strategy, it might get unnoticed by mainstream investors and traders alike. At least, Litecoin has been up and running without issues since its inception. As long as there's a community behind it, nothing else matters.

Exactly. That's what I've thought in the first place. No marketing/promotion for Litecoin, means no demand on the market. We need someone like Elon Musk to promote Litecoin so it could soar all the way to the moon. Otherwise, prices will stale as people focus on other big players on the market. What matters is the usefulness of the blockchain in question.

To begin with, if you notice the attention channelled to Dogecoin and its likes happened with the bull run, secondly for the case of Dogecoin, attention paid to it was caused by a prominent person hence driving unfathomable hype to the coin which of course spiked the growth. This then brings us to the fact that, hype is one of the big things that matters in the growth of any project just as fud can also cause a downfall of a project unless it is a definitely strong one. So in essence, Dogecoin grew because of hype and since people understood what that means in relation to price they followed along and while some made money others got trapped. As for Litecoin, what the team needs to it continue working, secondly the team need to be active on social media in order to keep the community updated and wanting for more. A good example of a coin whose team/CEO is always active is Binance Coin. So if Litecoin team can follow suit, it would be a good way to grow, that is, good Innovation plus an active social media presence.

The truth is, there needs to be something that attracts people to some coin, there needs to be a characteristic about that coin or token to get promoted. Doge was a "meme" coin and basically it was a fun thing, it was funny and quirky and that drove people to it, it is totally useless and worthless coin that should worth nothing more than 1 cent, but as we can see it is going up constantly because people find it funny and entertaining and it gave them a group collective thing to do.

Bitcoin, ethereum, bnb, all those coins have something about it. That's certainly true, mate. All of the attention is on "De-Fi" and NFTs right now. Most people are only into crypto to make a lot of money within the least time possible. They don't care about the underlying cryptocurrency's economics or features. Privacy coins are long lost especially because most centralized exchanges have de-listed them. I don't think Litecoin will be used more thoroughly once Mimblewimble comes into play. If developers want to attract the masses into Litecoin, they're going to need to integrate smart contracts into the Blockchain. Something like RSK for Litecoin should do the trick.

Despite Litecoin's current price, I'd say it's one of the altcoins that will never fade into oblivion. It's an oldie but goodie with a limited supply of 84 million coins. This makes Litecoin the most scarce cryptocurrency on the market after Bitcoin. People will ultimately decide whenever they'd want to buy and "hodl" Litecoin for the long term, or sell it for profit. As long as there's a community behind the project, nothing else matters. It's been nearly 10 years since Litecoin's inception, and so far there's no indication it'll go anywhere soon. But now that we have superior projects with greater transaction capacity, there may be no need for Litecoin at all. The project better innovate or it'll be left behind in the dust. Mimblewimble is good but not enough to put Litecoin back on track. Maybe adding smart contract features to the LTC blockchain will do the trick?

Anyhow, it's a good thing Litecoin's supply is finite. With only 84 million coins that will ever be mined, Litecoin would turn into the scarcest cryptocurrency in the world after Bitcoin. You are one of the lucky ones, it is very rare that we get to chat with anyone at the top at these days, it is a shame to not keep in contact with them. I have chat once with theymos before in my life waaay back in the day and it was about the future of bitcointalk and what he was intending to do, and I have talked with vitalik once and eth wasn't even a thing back then, it was all about bitcoin and how the adoption could be increased to get bitcoin accepted in other places.

As you've said before, there are many other coins with faster transaction confirmation times than Litecoin itself. Who'd want to use Litecoin when there's already a cryptocurrency called "Nano" with instant transactions and zero fees? Yet, what makes Litecoin different from other coins is the limited supply. 84 million coins that will ever exist, makes Litecoin the scarcest cryptocurrency in the world after Bitcoin. I guess that's why some people call Litecoin as "Silver to Bitcoin's Gold". The Bitcoin "sibling" (LTC) has lower fees and faster transaction confirmation times, with a deflationary model built into the protocol. If we value cryptocurrency based on their scarcity instead of features, then Litecoin should've been worth more than $1k by now. But most people are into crypto because of the hype, so they usually follow smart contract platforms like Ethereum and Binance Chain with "De-Fi" and NFTs.

Litecoin wasn't stagnant, I remembered there was a time in 2020 its price was $40, it increased to over $300 this year, which means it is not stagnant, but it is not increasing to the extent you expected, but it actually increased. Litecoin was part of the first seven cryptocurrencies in marketcap but now fourteenth. One of the reason I think litecoin lack behind is that it does not have tokens, just like DeFi projects that also will increase its price, if its blockchain supports many tokens like ethereum, its price would have increased more. I don't think LTC is stagnant, they move slowly and massively, Doge and Shibainu get attention because there are fundamental figures behind them, sometimes the richest people in the world are easy to make such changes

I'm seeing most people are preferring to make use of TRX for their transaction purposes but I'm not seeing any big differences in terms of transaction fees between TRX and litecoins. Litecoin is extremely undervalued. The cryptocurrency is scarce, yet cheaper and faster than Bitcoin itself. Of course, Dogecoin is much cheaper and faster than Litecoin. But it has inflation "baked" right into the protocol. Compare DOGE vs LTC's supply and you'll see the latter is a better option as a store of value. If people only valued cryptocurrencies based on their economic model than hype, things would've been much different. I guess Litecoin would've been worth more than $1k if we base ourselves on scarcity. But it's all about hype these days. You're right, usually a main net upgrade should send the price skyrocketing at least for some time but that hasn't happened and it may all just be down to marketing???

If not enough people know about it, equally not many people would buy the coin. The speculation on LTC has been almost close to nothing and it is interesting how people have grown out of LTC phase and sorta moved over to meme coins and NFTs.

I have always considered Litecoin as one of the most undervalued coins in the cryptocurrency market. I agree that the technology is not that advanced and LTC is a first-generation cryptocurrency. But the acceptability is very high and the low transaction fee and relative safety has ensured that this level doesn't go down as a result of competition. The developers have also worked hard, to eliminate any bugs that could be targeted by the hackers. LTC is one of the coins that I have in my portfolio and I have no plans to dump them anytime soon.

Honestly Litecoin is one of my favorite coins until now, although there are several other altcoins that have faster and cheaper transaction fees

Just like every other era, the meme coins were the fad this go around.  When the smoke clears coins like bitcoin, litecoin, eth will still be standing.  Keep piling into them and you should be fine.  These fad coins will get smashed eventually.  They are just pump toys.

What matters is that Litecoin stays decentralized and censorship-resistant. Only this way, it'll be able to withstand governments' efforts against it. I wouldn't worry about Litecoin's price as long as the Blockchain is still alive. Just my thoughts

I wouldn't go to the extent of claiming that Litecoin is "left behind in the dust". The market cap has steadily increased over time, ever since it was first mined more than 10 years ago. It is having a market cap of $12 billion, which IMO is considerable. Now you can't compare LTC to some of the inflated coins such as XRP and Solana, but it has managed to carve out a place for itself in the cryptocurrency sector. And if I am not wrong, Litecoin is the only other first-generation cryptocurrency (apart from Bitcoin) that is currently included in the top-50 list.

I got my first BTC sometime in Q4 2012, and after a few months I purchased some LTC. I remember that when I sold them for BTC, I received around 5x profits. When Litecoin was created it was a fun way to call them the silver because it is just the same code used by Bitcoin with a few changes and there were many who invested in it thinking they could make a fortune. indeed similar to Bitcoin, Litecoin is a peer-to-peer crypto asset that aims to serve as a global digital payment system. Similar to Bitcoin, Litecoin is an open-source network that is completely decentralized without any central authority which means it is not controlled by anyone.

I see Litecoin is the oldest surviving coin after Bitcoin. Maybe most of the others don't have a good volume. So I remain optimistic about Litecoin's condition even though the price movement is a bit late compared to other coins. Couldn't agree more with you, mate. Litecoin is one of the most undervalued coins on the market. The limited supply and years of experience, makes Litecoin a great cryptocurrency just like Bitcoin is today. Of course, there are other altcoins with faster speeds and cheaper fees than Litecoin. But their supply is not as limited as Litecoin's. People seem to be missing what Litecoin is all about. They're only into crypto to make money, instead of believing in its core tech to change our world for the better. As long as this mindset exists, Litecoin won't be going anywhere.

All of the attention is on "De-Fi" and NFTs right now, leaving single-purpose blockchain networks in the dust (except for Bitcoin). The "Mimblewimble" privacy upgrade had little to no effect over Litecoin's price. Demand is at its All-time-low, so it's hard to believe Litecoin will soar in price anytime soon. At least, the blockchain is healthy. With decent hashrate and nodes backing the network, Litecoin could last a lifetime. Just my thoughts
