El Salvador will lead the Latin American Government Accounting Forum 2024

Based in the Salvadoran region in 2024 and will bring together national accountants from 18 member countries. El Salvador was elected to the Presidency of the Latin American Public Accounting Forum (FOCAL) with the Ministry of Finance through the General Director of Public Accounting, taking this path on 12 October 2023.

In 2024 (FOCAL) will be based in the Salvadoran region and will bring together national accountants from 28 member countries.  In particular, the timing of (IX FOCAL) was decided to be held this year from October 10 to 12 in Lima, Peru.

Joaquin A. Montano, General Director of government accounting, expressed the commitment of the government of President Nayeb Bukel to serve as a framework of reference for study and reflection spaces aimed at promoting transparency as well as strengthening financial and government accounting. And El Salvador is well placed to do all this based on accountability good practices and lessons there.

Great initiative by Galoy and Bitfinex and I am pleased that the event will only discuss Bitcoin. The conference focuses on promoting the Lighting Network so as to increase Bitcoin adoption. It will be a good opportunity for developers and entrepreneurs to discuss and brainstorm issues that affect the Bitcoin ecosystem. Tickets for this conference are payable in Bitcoin only and the proceeds from the event will be donated to any local organisation that promotes Bitcoin education. Last year's donation went to Mi Primer Bitcoin which is an initiative that is educating El Salvadorans about Bitcoin and also giving them a diploma. Last year's Adopting BitcoinIt conference was held in El Salvador but next year will be in Cape Town, South Africa which is closer to my home country.

Athena Bitcoin, the company operating a state-owned chain of crypto ATMs in El Salvador, plans to integrate the Lightning Network into 100 of these machines in the next couple of months.

According to a press release from Nov. 7, Athena Bitcoin Global and Genesis Coin have already enabled the use of the Lightning Network technology across their technology infrastructure and will now begin implementing it, first in El Salvador and then across Latin America.

The Lightning Network is a layer-2 payment protocol that enables faster withdrawals and minimizes transaction fees. It also avoids recording the transaction data in the accounting of the main network. According to Coin ATM Radar, only 3.7% of the world’s crypto ATMs support the technology.

Athena intends to switch to Lightning support at 100 of the state-owned Chivo ATMs it’s operating in El Salvador by December 2023. The remaining kiosks, including the Athena-branded ones, will follow in Q1 2024. There are currently 215 crypto teller machines in El Salvador.

This is certainly a good improvement, because it will certainly help and come in handy as the lightning is an alternate route to the solutions of the congestion and piled up transaction in the Bitcoin mempool which is caused by the use of the Bitcoin Blockchain to process payment of alternative coins like the pepe and meme coins. Wow, this is a great news, it shows that the system keeps improving every day, and with these improvements, in no time its adoption would spread all over the world. What really excites me the most is the fact that as the network gets faster, the transaction fees also reduce. El Salvador's affinity for bitcoin has grown over time, ever since El Salvador's president, Nayib Bukele, accepted it as a legal tender to be used in the country. Fantastic achievement did by Nayib Bukele as El Savador president due criminal rate down drastically, its positive side from bitcoin adopting as legal payment currency there, not only benefit such as investment assets in the future but also bitcoin can drop criminal case where not space for happing criminal case less of using cash or fiat transaction.
