Probably.

The IMF is part of a protection racket where countries are actively put into difficult states (though they don't tend to need a lot of external help for that) and offered the means to survive...for a price.  The price is often that a share of the natural resources of the country is handed over to Western corporate interests.

So, it stands to reason that there have been instances where a country avoided some problems by use of the financial 'help'.  At the same time, further enriching corrupt political interests within a country is not usually the most effective recipe for producing stable and prosperous nations as the marketing behind the racket proposes.  It is a good way to continue the need for more IMF 'loans' in the future however.

I read somewhere that deeper down, the IMF is more controlled by the American bankers where with the World Bank it tends to be more the Europeans bankers who identify the targets and do the dirty-work.

I don't really understand whether this can backfire politically for them or financially in terms of financial support or additional loans from the IMF. They are quite brave because this was their answer on X when the IMF now repeated their demand that El Salvador stop buying.



The article is a good read and it explains how allegedly El Salvador has agreed to some of the IMF conditions, yet continues to add BTC to their strategic reserve. It's interesting how the IMF is not pulling the final trigger. Maybe they see that the once alleged financial instability for BTC holders hasn't come true. I don't know what the limits of the IMF are, but could they stop support? It's time I study that organization as I never looked into it.

It is not gonna backfire in any way. Whoever criticizes Nayib in any way right now is a fool, because there is no county where politics are currently in a better shape. El Salvador is experiencing its golden age, whereas there is decline and chaos in most parts of the planet.

They decide whether they want to do a deal with someone or not, so they can just stop giving them loans. El Salvador needs to find another sources for future money under favorable deals, or Nayib can persuade Trump to punish the IMF. Both options would work. The IMF is very corrupt and usually offers manipulated deals that hurt the country that receives them, so a punishment is long overdue.
