I have 5 S3 miners that I bought used and can't find password to log into config page. Root/root does not work. I'm looking for someone with 5 cards to sell or program please! I am desperate!!!   I tried to re-program using tty (never did before) and got the user name then password so I can't log into the miner. I don't really know if I'm doing it right to begin with so it would be easier for me to pay someone with cards or that will program for me. Resetting does nothing. Stays the same way and does not reset. Thank you ahead of time for any and all help!

Can try to reset it again you might do wrong when resetting the miner.
What you need to do when resetting it is by holding the reset button for 15 seconds or if there is an Ipreport button use it and hold it for 15 seconds and let's see if it can help to reset the miner to factory default.

I don't know if the Antminer s3 has an SD card slot but if it has an SD card slot try to flash it through an SD card.
There is an SD card firmware on Bitmain that still available try to download the file from this link below
- https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20image

Look for "Tools and Instructions to Image SD card.zip" then burn the .img file with your SD card and plug it into your miner while it turns off and turn on the miner and then wait for the led flashing signal until it stops.
Now if the flashing is a success you can access the miner with the default admin password root/root.

Hope it helps.

I can reach unit config page but can't log in by root/root. There is a password on them I don't know. I try the reset button no luck, spent over 12 hours pressing many different ways.... no luck using jumper paper clip on to holes on com port. Tried using putty for first time and  got user/password screen even if I disconnected from unit and was connected to air. I'm lost as to how I'm going to reset units (5). I've read that there was a firmware upgrade that killed the reset button and I think thats what I'm dealing with.

I found this thread below posted last 2014 I don't think this thing will work but worth trying.

What you need to do is to look for RX/TX and GND in your control board and you will need a USB to the serial port to connect those RX, TX, and GND to the PC and send some commands.
I don't know if this one will work but I almost tried to dig and search in the whole forum to find a solution.

I heard that you can replace the controller with a raspberry pi so I think that's the last hope to make this miner work again.
I got the idea from this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=671128.0

I'll try the first suggestion in the morning, the second one using a raspberry pi...I'm lost as to how to connect the two separate blades with there different plugs into a pi. Seems like it might not work. I will try tty but have never used putty other than today and found that when I tried a session it would ask for user name and password. Thank you for your help.

I would highly suggest you don't use the default BM firmware.
It has serious bugs that I fixed in my S1/S2/S3 releases.
See the updates I have here: https://bitbucket.org/TheKano/cgminer-binaries/src/master/AntS3/
But firstly, reset it, reflash it, then do the updates.

I can't reset the miner. I get the config screen and use root and then for the password it rejects root and says wrong password. I've done everything to reset but it does not reset.

Ok I can communicate with the board using putty but the commands don't work or it just might be its all code for the s1 and not the s3?

Ok there is a great post on this subject named S3 serial connect?   I did what nitrox did but got stumped at one point. I went to send a message and he doesn't take messages from newbies so I'll just paste the message and hopefully someone out there can help me.  :::  I was hoping you can help me with flashing my s3 controller cards. I have 5 that have passwords to enter the luci log in that prevent me from entering the main menu. I got stuck at when your setting up the tptd64 program. I list the folder that I have my new .bin file to flash but it only sees the folder not the file. I go to  run the putty command and it says it can't find file.....I'm lost at this point and have like 50 hours into this. Its kinda driving me crazy and I hope you can help restore my sanity! LOL...    Many thanks ahead of time for any and all help I can get!

ok tried to send a message to "bitsolutions" and they don't take messages from newbies either! Fustrating... Heres the message i tried to send to give some more details of what's going on with me:     I was hoping you could help me out on an old problem you help someone fix 7 years back with flashing an old s3 controller card via tft. I have 5 units that won't allow me to reset to change the passwords(I bought the units used with no access to what the passwords used to be.) I was able to do the other commands but just can't get to the first one of ftfpboot 0x80000000 antminer_s320150109.bin.  I placed a folder named the same as the file on my desktop but putty can't find it. There were some other commands to do afterwards and I was able to do them so I am communication fine. Please help I have a lot of hours into this and am pulling what's left of my hair out! LOL....Mike
