I just want to remind you @coco23 to be more careful in cutting the quoted post, you quoted Juggy777's post by putting my name in the quote you cut.
Oops, I am sorry about that, I deleted one line too many and it messed up the quote, I fixed it.

One perk of so many teams at the top is, that we will see top games almost every week now  Wink
When the league continues in 2.5 weeks it'll be "only" Nürnberg vs Paderborn, but then right after we'll see Hamburg vs St.Pauli and Paderborn vs Bremen. It'll be important motivation-wise to keep up with the best teams in the first weeks of the new year

i also believe that this season a club will be promoted to the 1st bundesliga that already played in the 2nd bundesliga last season and the second club to be promoted will be last year's relegated club from the 1st bundesliga (bremen or schalke).
my wish would currently be st. pauli and werder bremen Wink

My guess is that Pauli and Darmstadt will both qualify for the Bundesliga. I can see, they are now ahead of the points table, so, I'm not only saying this, their point table says.
I think their gameplay is very nice and the players have the ability to score goals. At the same time you know, their defense is not so weak.
You have to be said, the gameplay of Pauli and Darmstadt is much better than Schalke and Bremen.

There are more former "big" teams in the 2nd league, besides Hamburg and Schalke, for instance Nürnberg and Bremen. Not all of them can't make it, but I am pretty sure that we will see 1-2 out of those 4 going up again next year.
I admit that many former Bundesliga clubs currently play in Bundesliga 2, but of these clubs, of course Schalke is one of the big teams that suffered the most tragic fate, in the past Schalke was a pretty great club and gave birth to many star players , besides that they are even able to trouble big teams in leagues and European competitions, I remember if they ever reached the quarter-finals of the 2018/2019 Champions League then, but financial problems made their performance in the Bundesliga quite bad in the last 3 seasons and even they were forced to experience relegation last season, to be honest I really want to see  next season schalke can return to play in the bundesliga and become a team that can trouble giant teams like Bayern Munich and Dortmund.

St Pauli and Darmstadt are competing with each other superbly. They both already have a decent gap with the rest of the teams. It has been a long time since we saw any of these teams in the Bundesliga as far as I remember. We have just got past the half of the season. If these teams manage to keep this effort level, we could see them promoting to the Bundesliga directly.

My guess is that Pauli and Darmstadt will both qualify for the Bundesliga. They are now ahead of the points table so I'm not saying this. Their gameplay is very nice. Their players have the ability to score goals. At the same time their defense is not weak. The gameplay of Pauli and Darmstadt is much better than Schalke and Bremen.

Since their first year in the 2. Bundesliga (2018), Hamburger SV have been in 1st place after the first half of the season, then 2nd place and then 1st place again. And despite these places, they have not yet managed to get promoted again. At some point, their performance plummeted. We will see if it will happen with St. Pauli or Darmstadt too.

It is difficult to see for the football fan that HSV has fallen so far. In the years that van Der Vaart still played here, they always played at the top of the Bundesliga. A club with this history should win the championship here in this competition. Even though the teams have also become stronger across the width. Could it have been financial mismanagement or other sponsor problems?

Well, history doesn't count that much. I would rather say that a club with their potential should be way stronger than they are. They literally have everything that a club needs to be one of the leading powers in German football, and also in the Europa League. Wouldn't say Champions League, but even that could be possible with strong management. They are just doing too many things wrong. Very similar to Schalke.

I agree that during a game the club history doesn't count that much, however a (formerly) "big" team might have an advantage due to the larger infrastructure and people connections that probably is still around from the better years. Also they have a (potentially) larger fan base and media coverage. (It is never a truely fair fight  Wink)

If we look at it this way, even the Bundesliga 2 looks like the graveyard of clubs that were big in the past years.  Not only Hamburg, clubs such as Werder Bremen, Schalke, Nürnberg, Hannover, St Pauli are the teams that have played in the Bundesliga for a long time in the past years.  Football is very different from 30 years ago.  Now the economy has become a force for the teams.  It wasn't like that in the past.  Football was more passionate in the past.  Anyway, people still want to see teams like this play in the Bundesliga.

The last points counts that you mentioned: it is never a truly fair fight. But you can lose some of that substance you built in the past as well. There is Bremen, Schalke, Hamburg, they all competed for the Bundesliga title, but if you were to guess now when that is going to happen again, would you say within the next 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? I would probably tend towards 20 years, if ever.

You often readed about Hamburg that the problem there is also the media. As soon as Hamburger SV lost three games in a row, the media jumped all over their performance. That must have caused a lot of pressure and that pressure was transferred to the players. But there were also internal problems in the management and the management was replaced too often. No consistency.

vdv was with Hamburger SV from 2005 to 2008. That is too long ago to compare it with today.

You often readed about Hamburg that the problem there is also the media. As soon as Hamburger SV lost three games in a row, the media jumped all over their performance. That must have caused a lot of pressure and that pressure was transferred to the players. But there were also internal problems in the management and the management was replaced too often. No consistency.

vdv was with Hamburger SV from 2005 to 2008. That is too long ago to compare it with today.

@bct_ail I do agree with you these days media can troll, say anything they want by hiring pundits (ex player’s) to  say statements that cause more pressure on the player’s, and even fans often get misled by these statements and turn on their own team. Lastly the media pressure won’t be going away anytime soon, hence they’ll have to work really hard if they ever want to compete in Bundesliga again.

I think that Darmstadt can qualify, this season I have been watching their performance and I think they already have the level to move up, it is also a great opportunity for them to be in the 1st of the Bundesliga, I think that this pandemic has made some Strong teams have weakened and those that seemed weak are surprising, also to see Darmstadt in this new season and in 1st would be great because that is how they measure themselves against the best and that brings more experience for their players.

St. Pauli was very strong at home in the first half of the season and won all 8 games. In the away games it was very mixed.
They are 6 points ahead of 3rd place. And they will play 9 of 16 games in the second half of the season at home. That is a good starting position.

Well, you can say that they are pretty lucky that it is in favor of them, right now their next game is Erzgebirge that I think can become an easy task if they are in their 100% form, which is I think it will regarding the 4-day rest because the games will resume on Saturday, or it can become a draw if they keep on making mistake, and the next game after Erzgebirge is a tough one, in my opinion,

Hamburger SV is not an easy feat for ST. Pauli recent games they surely win but with just 1 lead goal, so they need to focus and be careful for Hamburger SV to find a chance on retaliating to them, and make the game a draw or end up for Hamburger SV to win,

Their 3rd game will be against Paderborn another team that has proven to be a hindrance for St. Pauli their recent game was a win for the Paderborn 3 - 1 score, So they will need to push even further if they want to stay on top of the standings.

It will not be easy for St. Pauli. That is clear. And you have explained the next three games well. The game against Hamburger SV is a townderby and that will be very exciting. I read today that in Hamburg, 2000 fans will be allowed in the stadium again.  But only the own fans and not the guests. That is of course very bad and sad for a townderby.

I too feel that St. Pauli definitely have an advantage over other teams, but a lot now depends on their player’s desire to step up and win all these games. @bct_ail yea it’s sad for the fans, but can’t blame the authorities for taking extra care to prevent lockdowns, hence I think that some fans are better than no fans in the stadium at least for the time being.

today also marks the start of the second half of the 2 bundesliga. hamburger sv has a tough away game in dresden, which it must win if it wants to maintain contact with the promotion places.
in the second friday match, rostock and hannover meet. both are neighbors in the table and have to be careful not to get even more involved in the relegation fight.

The second round of this season has started, St Pauli and Darmstadt have a pretty tight competition to get first place this season, while Hamburger who is in third place must compete with Schalke and several other teams in order to ensure a place to get promotion this season going to the bundesliga, I think there will be a lot of changes in the standings that happened in the second round of the season and it looks like St. Pauli and also Darmstadt are not quite safe in their position.

Yesterday Dresden played against Hamburger SV. With the 1:1, some clubs can overtake Hamburg SV in the table and Hamburger SV could be on 8th place in the table on Sunday. Currently they are still third.
The game was not good from Hamburg either. They were not very active.
