Metamask won't accept password... is it safe to reset it?

My Metamask won't accept my password and I know it is correct.  I have the seed phrase and the password I created to sign up for the metamask.  If I reset my wallet, is there a chance I would lose my coins? I can't have that.  Also, is the "password" different than the seed phrase,,, becaue it accepted this password before.. I didn't change it.

Before I could just reload the phone and it would ask for the face id and I would be good to go.... please advise if you know what to do or have been through this before.

If you are sure that you have the correct seed phrase, yes.
All your private keys can be derived from your seed phrase and that's enough for recovering your wallet.
Note your password is used for encrypting your wallet locally and it's not needed when you use the seed phrase.

There's no chance for you to lose your coin but you may get the different address appears in your metamask. This is also happening with me dude. Each seed contains bunch of addresses and sometime metamask was randomly catch the random address from your seed. there's is another solution. You can try to download mycrypto desktop wallet and then try to  open your seed on the mycrypto wallet. You will also able to pick the address that contains your coin.

You can try to open your wallet with your seed. Your coin was safe in your wallet.

I believe every post here is an ok process for you to recover your wallet but for me, the last time I had an issue like this since I had my private keys stored somewhere, I just reinstalled the Metamask and used my private keys to reimport all the wallets attached to that MM.

I'm using Metamask before and I have also encountered that problem when my phone suddenly fall into seawater and it was broken, But luckily I have kept my seed phrase and private keys when I bought a new Android phone I just import it using the private keys and there was no problem, thats why I stop using Metamask now because I find it hassle to use especially when you are using a multiple Network in the Layer2 blockchains.  just my opinion.

Password not locked your address wallet, that's just lock & open your wallet so in-case your device is missing and someone found your device he can't access your fund. Secret Seed Phrase is the important things you should have, If you have it then should be not worry just import that then you can access your wallet back and you will created your new password to open/lock the wallet.

Feel free to tested with dummy account metamask.

As I know the main thing is to remember your seed phrase. If you have a new device, you can import your wallet using your seed phrase and then make up a new password exactly for this device. It means that the password isn’t linked to your wallet. You can change it. I recommend you to install Metamask once again and import your wallet.

Maybe there is something you must forgot to your password or some missing character.
But mine its always fine always Ill save my password through to other device and the seed on it.
So thats why if I forgot my password or the seed I can openly easy, But we need to be careful sometimes about opening metamask because there is some phising site that can get the pass to your meta.

Easiest method is to use the recovery seed or try to use private keys on another wallet if you have write down it somewhere. You will not lose access to the coins, just create new waller with the old seed and you are good to go. Just look for the detailed info on Google and check the Youtube channels how to export seed and use the same seed on different crypto wallet for recovery.

Try to use your seed with mycrypto wallet.

Usually that wallet shows immediately the address that has the balance or coins you have with it. Always use the official links so that you won't be a victim of phishing and fake sites of the same.

Just be sure that you input the correct seed phrase since you forgot your password and you write down the wrong password, this could be the same with your seed phrase. Try to use your seed phrase on other device with metamask wallet to confirm if you input the correct one, don’t uninstall yet on your old device try to remember your password as much as possible.

Well, if you are sure the seed phrase you have is the correct one will link you back to your wallet successfully, then why not, but also remember that if you have imported some other wallets to your metamask and you have funds in them, then please make sure you also have the private keys of this wallet as you might still need it to access those other wallets that are linked to them through metamask, this is very important to take note of, recovering back your initial metamask wallet with its seed phrase might not bring back also those wallet you imported with their private keys, so please have those private keys handy too.

This is the official MyCrypto wallet https://mycrypto.com/ I'm also using its desktop version bookmark to avoid phishing site and if you have an altcoin and it is not showing in your MyCrypto panel just get the smart contract and fill it in my custom assets on the add assets settings.

is the mycrytpo app only good of desktop? the problems with adding custom tokens is I have hundreds or super cheap crapcoins!!! I would sure love to use my metamask like it was if anybody else has any other ideas.  thank!

As I've said, they have the pro version which you can use as web app. So it's good using with your browser although I haven't used it but I've tried the windows desktop version.

Well, if you've got a lot of those tokens adding customs, it's okay that you have to input all of them if you want to dump all of it.

So you are able to access your wallet again and see nothing your wallet?
Maybe you got scammed or hacked but a suspicious links and you might exposed your seed phrase. This is the only possible scenario if you lose your money. I thought your only problem here is about your password, this is a reminder to everyone that you should always protect your wallet details and avoid clicking any links without confirming if its legit or not.
