Last month, I was addicted to bitcointalk. I kept posting 5-7 articles every day. A lot of time on the forum every day.

Initially, my goal was to become a Hero Member/Legend Member as soon as possible.I even asked the stupid question of whether merit can be bought or sold.

After that, I get merit as much as possible according to my goal, such as
1.Participate in some reward topics
[Merit] Help newbies and those who have a little left to the next rank
[Merit] Hey Bitcoiners! Can You Send Encrypted Messages?

2.Publish some knowledge I just learned to get merit, even though I didn’t fully understand it myself
Asymmetric encryption(signature)--DSA(A novice explanation)
Asymmetric encryption--RSA(A novice explanation)
It may be difficult to understand this knowledge without programming skills. I just published this knowledge simply by performing mathematical calculations.

As I read more and more posts in bitcointalk, the more I feel that I know very little and the more knowledge I need to learn.

In the past month, I spent 8 days and 10 hours on the forum. In other words, in addition to sleeping and eating, most of my time is spent on forums.I read a lot of posts, and sometimes I even check someone’s historical posts for a long time.

This is really interesting. This forum has a history of 10 years. There are a lot of stories and love, hate waiting for me to discover.I really like this time to look through old posts.

So what I want to tell newbies is, read more and then reply.

There are many questions you want to ask, most of which can be found in the previous topic.Only in this way can we better understand and integrate into the forum.

Taking this opportunity to thank those who have helped me and corrected my mistakes.

(Special thanks to DdmrDdmr's statistics website:Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard

I am very grateful to those who affirmed me:@The Pharmacist,@DdmrDdmr,@Ratimov,@LoyceV,@Welsh,@lovesmayfamilis etc.

At the same time, thanks to everyone in the forum for their dedication and contribution!

My interpretation is a little bit different but I agree with you that reading first, then replying. Reading requires a lot of patience. Many people deliberately lengthen their posts in order to make them look "constructive" - a requirement to get merit, or just to make sure they have enough characters to be counted for signature campaigns. Those posts don't bring any value and are painful to read. When you read enough on this forum, you will have a list of posters that are enjoyable to read. I don't want to name them here cause it's a personal preference but my list contains some of those who were mentioned in your post.

Replying also requires responsibility. Many people only want to share their thoughts but don't notice that the same thoughts have been posted by others on the same topic. It's a waste of forum resource and a direct result of lack of reading.

Yeah it does make sense. Most of the newbies and beginners here on Bitcointalk are just focusing on the topic title and replied immediately without actually reading the whole thing. It’s really important for us to understand the whole topic first before replying to the thread. By the way, you’re doing great in this forum. Keep it up and bring more value to the community!

Don't think about how much you can earn from signature campaigns or get merits. It is much more than that, the more you do, the more you realize, and the more you can earn with a little effort.

Therefore, reading is not the only thing, but rather an attempt to understand the basics and expand their explanation, as the explanation increases and enhances understanding, and therefore reading is useful.

Cryptocurrency is not about how to make money fast but about understanding how money works.

Reading let you to gather new information but only replying will share the knowledge to others if they don't know it and there is a famous quote "keeping the knowledge for yourself is a greatest sin".

But reply only it its needed and "keep it simple" so others can understand it better!

Very good advice, I agree, first inform yourself and only then get involved.
The problem is that we have a lot of people here who come solely for earning opportunities, bounty hunters, or because of regular signature campaigns etc.
They are not interested in forum rules but solely to meet their campaign's requirements on the minimum number of posts written.
So we get people who don't read but write exclusively to make some money and I don't think there's much help how to solve it.

No, the point here is to avoid any spam replies that has been previously mentioned already by other users. Like what he mentioned, replying requires responsibility. Imagine if you were to read a thread containing replies with the same thought, then there would be no room for any discussions as all will be repetitive.

The forum is indeed a place for communication but you also have the responsibility to observe all the rules stated. Though we are given freedom to communicate our thoughts, there is a limitation as to what we can post/share in order to make this forum a better place for discussions.

The question is how may you contribute to the forum? If you can't learn then you can't contribute. You can't read then you can't learn. So learning and contributing are related to each other. I have been saying always, read more than create a post or reply. So that you can learn more and could contribute to the forum. The goal shouldn't be earning merit which wouldn't give you a good result. Concentration on the learning and contribution would help you be an established member of the forum. So, learn as much you can by reading forums.

I think he meant that it is about "reiterating" the same opinion all over again without adding more substance or value.

You and I might like pineapples on pizza. I said that I like them because they are sweet. If you said the same thing, there's no value. You could say you like pizza not just because they are sweet, but also because they blend well with the other toppings of the pizza and not just because they are sweet.  Just giving you an example scenario here. Smiley

Eating pizza right now to be honest, while I am writing this. Cheesy

You need to be selective with what you read. If you were to read every single post in every single thread that you see, you would waste a ton of time without learning anything, because there's so many low value posts, repetitive posts, unimportant topics, etc. Every beginner should start with reading a good book about the basics of Bitcoin technology, get some knowledge of cryptography so that they could start answering people's questions.

I had over 2k posts after about 3 years of BitcoinTalk and, to my surprise, I found out later on that I was just a bastard who copies the opinions of others and wastes the time of others on the forum. Only last year have I truly started to learn much more about crypto and how it works. Perhaps the biggest mistake we all make is that we get so focused on earning money, we literally forget about any other aspect of Bitcoin. And I wasn't the only one in that boat, so many others were.

I almost had an "argue" (if I could even call it that way) with a few members here who last year kept wondering how the hell am I a Hero member yet I know not much about crypto and I post useless replies. It takes time and some kind of discipline to get to higher ranks on BitcoinTalk and earn a better reputation. I may not be the best now, I'm probably not even average, but I try my best to offer my knowledge to anyone here who needs it whenever I feel like I have enough information in my brain to do so.

Reading is sometimes just a waste of time. Unfortunately, so many people miss out so many good posts just because reading only posts and threads written by ChipMixer members has become a trend. I'm not saying it's a bad thing - DS definitely always picks up the better members of the forum, but it's a shame that even I tend to only read posts and threads written by highly reputable members of the forum while completely ignoring those of newer ones who are trying their best to offer whatever kind of info they can help with. What I was trying to say is that reading everything might actually make you lose more IQ than you earn, lol.

At the end of the day, it might be a good practice to follow the threads that truly interest you, to write threads only about stuff that interest you rather than posting just for Merit earning and, meanwhile, it might be a very good idea to read at least 1-2 sub-Sr. Member posts per thread and merit the best finds so that those who deserve it earn it.

Replying or making a post should only be done when necessary and you have something of value to contribute, value like quality might be subjective, making it difficult to ascertain when you are adding value and not. The key is just to make sure you're not posting for the wrong reasons;
• Simply to fulfil campaign requirements,
• To grow your activity,
• To hunt for merits.

There are so many other ways one can be of value to the forum;
• Reporting spam and plagiarism,
• Creating a custom trust list,
• Bursting scams, etc

Very good point. It's important to select what you read. Your time is valuable and you shouldn't waste it reading lowquality stuff. It's same like you don't read random books or don't watch random movies, you select what is interesting for you.

You're right, it's always good to keep mute when there's no words of tangible expression to be made rather than constituting falasy and nuisance, I come across this article on professional talking etiquette required.

I noticed you around and yes, you're not a bad poster and soon you deserve to rank up, just keep your goal and keep it up, one day you will be there.

This was what I always advise on newbies here that most likely asking how to earn merit, they need more time to read and study first before posting so that they will learn and contribute something knowledgeable information, it also can avoid having a spam reply.

I tend to agree with this, don't rely on a single source or in the forum itself, you need to explore other sources like reading cryptocurrency books and videos that have explained very well every detail that we wanted to learn most especially in trading, it's very crucial.

For now, you're a great example for the newbies out there to motivate them and do the same with you.

As a new member who has just entered the forum, my original intention was to go to the forum to learn some knowledge in the field of encryption. Indeed, I found that many people just chose to reply after reading the title and did not read the post seriously. This is just When outputting your own inherent ideas, you have not accepted some fresh ideas. Reading other people’s opinions or ideas that are different from your own may open up another new idea for you. If you just choose to keep outputting your own opinions to others, then you There will be no novel gains, and you will never be able to improve your knowledge.

Sure, I cannot agree with you more!
you really made a difference in this forum, I admire your knowledge in technology relevant to crypto world, for example, asymmetric encryption. I tried to learn it and I figured it out then and forgot very soon...you are a diligent and clever person with a strong will
in reference to merits and ranks, I don't envy you guys with high merits(not really, lol) you did a good job, I have to say. I'll treat you as my role models.
It's hard for me to spend too much here since I have to do my work, but I really enjoy being in here
I used nearly one year just reading in this forum and then I started my account to share my opinions occasionally. anyway, I'm inspired here and I'll do some reflection. maybe I should read more and then reply, to provide notion of higher quality and improve myself
good output entails huge amount of input
