Suggestion - Alert for when someone responds to you

Is it just me or does no1 receive an alert when someone quotes you. Deff a QoL feature. Would make everyones life easier on BT

Edit: no userbots - what I mean = a feature on the forum without downloading anything.

There are several options for notifications, such as Yet Another BitcoinTalk Notification Bot by TryNinja, Bitcointalk Notifier |merit and quotes| push notifications by hatshepsut93 or LoyceV's notification bot. You will find these tools useful, I'm sure.

A couple more improvements would definitely make everyone's life easier:

• Search before you post.
• No txt spk.

Yep. I am well aware that USERS have created userbots but I am not downloading anything that is made by USERS. In fact, I am not downloading anything lmao.

My notification bot was mentioned already. All it takes is viewing a webpage. And by all means: use Tor for it! I've added a link, but I take it you don't want to download Tor browser either

I get it, I don't like installing unknown software either. That's why I make my own data dumps with very basic HTML. But you're missing the point: if something can be created by a user script, it doesn't take time from Admin, and doesn't add any security risks to the forum. Let's be realistic here: the forum isn't going to add this feature any time soon. Maybe right after KYC.

If you're OK with a slight delay and don't mind refreshing every so often (and don't want to download or enable notifications on something) you can use the forum search page also and refresh that every time you want to see if someone's mentioned you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search

Just put in your name on the forum search and search the day (with 0 to 1 in the time slot) or as long as you want to see if you've been mentioned - you can refresh the search results page every few minutes if you really want to (don't use too many days though as it'll take a few seconds to load everything).

That’s the way I go around with notifications, although it does do some weird things every now and then, like returning a bunch of results that are totally unrelated. When this happens, I simply relaunch the search again, but changing something on the parameters (i.e. I normally alter the search string slightly).

Other times, it defaults back to sorting by "most relevant result first", when I ask for "most recent topic first", so every now and then, I need to go back to the parameter screen to adjust these details. Not too much of a drag, but something to consider.

I think this should retain the sort order properly. Note that it's not actually the most recent topic first, but the most recent post first (could be in an old topic).

Edit - in case anyone wants to play around with this, load the search page with browser's dev tools turned on and check the network tab. You can take any request parameters from the POST and put them into the URL separated with "&" and it should work. May or may not need "submit=Search" and other fluff, I haven't tested this much. Probably don't need the "brd[...]" stuff, seems to work without it (edit3 - those are the board IDs so omitting them seems to search everywhere but if you want to filter to a specific board add e.g. &brd[24]=24 for Meta).



Edit2 - added show_complete=1 as I think it makes more sense.
