Base on history doing long term holding gives positive outcomes to the investors, but also it’s good to pay attention with their strategy and mindset. Since this could help them a lot to succeed here.
Yes base on history long term holding gives profit to holders, but that is not enough reason to believe that the future will return same profits levels that was given to investors in the past. While investing and holding for the future, you have to make room for surprises or disappointment, so you don’t get emotional and psychological breakdown when it doesn’t turn out how you have expected.

There is no reason to be mentally broken about investing in Bitcoin, if you hold it for a long time then it will give you huge benefits. If you plan to hold it for a short term then it can give you losses, so investing in Bitcoin for a long term will be the best plan. You can reach more success by investing in Bitcoin, because the more Bitcoin you invest, the more profit you can get. So by maintaining the continuity of buying in Bitcoin, you must take one of the opportunities to reach success and keep yourself strong.

I can agree that investing In bitcoin for a long term is the best practice of bitcoin investment, but you’re sounding as if there’s a guarantee of profit in bitcoin investment even for the long term. It is true that judging from past reports bitcoin has rewarded long term holders but that’s still not enough reason to sound like you’re being guaranteed of making profits in bitcoin investment or being successful in it even for long term because bitcoin is very unpredictable and you don’t know what the price will be tomorrow due to its high volatility. The fact remains that, even though bitcoin have a potential of generating profit in the long run let’s not be too certain forgetting that there’s also a potential of losing your investment due to extreme market downturns. The best is to invest  within your means with a discretionary income you can afford to lose. Focusing more on regularly buying of bitcoin and HODL to  build a better portfolio to enable you stand in a more better position will be more important than chasing profits.

Money that you can afford to lose and discretionary income are not the same thing.

Money that you can afford to lose is a subset of discretionary income since discretionary income is also used to save (put in back up funds) and to discretionarily consume.  You invest with a portion of your discretionary income that you choose to allocate into bitcoin, and surely not all of your discretionary income, since it is quite likely that guys who are consistently investing 100% of their discretionary income, they are likely to get stressed by such an aggressive level of investment, and surely guys who are even approaching investing 100% of their discretionary income, then hopefully, they already have decent quantities of back up funds in the event that they miscalculate and end up investing more than 100% of their discretionary funds.
Agreed, the two are indeed different. Discretionary income is what you have left after paying your basic expenses. It reflects your monthly cash flow and can be used for investing, saving, or spending. Money you can afford to lose is different: it's an amount that wouldn't affect your basic living needs or your peace of mind, even if it dropped to zero. So it measures your ability to tolerate losses, and it also depends on the savings you already have.

Two people with the same amount of discretionary income may have wildly different loss tolerance. When the price dips, someone with a thick emergency fund may be okay, while someone with a thin one may have to sell at a low price.

Let's test it by considering the drawdowns that actually have occurred (around -85% after the 2017 peak and around -75% after the 2021 peak). If your investment dropped 75% and stayed there for a year or two, and your finances were still secure, then it is money that you can afford to lose. So, in my opinion, the closer someone gets to investing all of their discretionary income, the more important it is to build up back up funds first, and then increase the investment gradually.

I think you have misinterpreted this the post right above yours explained it correctly. In this regard, beginners specifically should receive guidance and mentoring covering all aspects ranging from the knowledge itself to the management of the discretionary income they intend to invest. Once they grasp the lessons or guidance provided, the logical next step is to actually purchase Bitcoin even if the price is surging so they can experience price volatility firsthand. This allows them to see that the teachings hold true in reality, thereby helping to build the mindset they will need for the future.

First of all, i do not deem it necessary for a beginner to undergo all these you said since they are not planning on trading or gambling bitcoin so, there will not be any need for mentorship because bitcoin investment is a very straight forward thing, you do not have to calculate or predict where the market will be heading next but rather all you need is to prepare your mind to accept whatever move the market makes, have the long term mindset, figure out your discretionary and chose the interval you will be accumulating in regards to your discretionary as simple as this, you do not need any mentorship because this is not trading.
It is true that Bitcoin investment is not trading or gambling, so complex mentorship is not mandatory before starting. Especially in this community, there is an opportunity to learn a lot by discussing with everyone. However, it would not be right to say that mentorship or guidance is absolutely not needed. Because in the case of many new investors, they do not understand how much money they should buy, how much they should buy without financial pressure, and whether they will panic sell if the price drops. Although these issues are something that the individual has to decide for himself by understanding his own situation. Still, for those who are not able to understand these issues, a guidance can probably give an idea. But the investor should definitely consider his own position when making a decision.

Just as a new investor might be a no-coiner if they wait to learn everything, they are more at risk if they fail to set aside their discretionary income and invest the necessary amount. So while guidance may not be necessary for everyone, some people may need basic guidance. However, it is not to teach market prediction, but rather to explain discretionary income, emergency funds, DCA and long-term mindset.

In my opinion, people with common sense are able to understand what their discretionary income is in most cases.

All that you said here are all true, and this is the mistake I initially made in the past thinking that discretionary income and the money you can afford to lose are the same thing, because I later comes to understand that their are some discretionary income that are quite huge, and of a truth, I wouldn't be willing to lose it.

Like for example, if after doing all my expenses and I have a $70 as discretionary income left, i will really be hurt if I lose such amount of money on anything I decide to risk it on, but if it's just $5-10 out of that $70, I wouldn't be that bothered because it's an amount I can easily afford to lose, unlike the $70 that I will want to use part of it for other minor things that are not part of my basic expenses.

Even for newbies, there seems to be no reason to wait for a dip, cheer for a dip or even welcome a dip, but instead do not let the dip bother you since when there is a dip, and if you are ongoingly buying bitcoin, then during such dips, if they arrive, you are getting more bitcoin for the same amount of dollars.

Spot on sir, I'm glad to see that you did justice to this, so that both newbies and other investors that might be confused about this subject, will understand that waiting for the dip is of no use, I don't know how it will sound that a newbie that is ready both mentally and financially will decide to wait for the dip, without considering the delay and discourage that might arise while waiting, what happens to acumulating with our discreationary steadily with the DCA method which will also cover both the dip or anytime, I think if a newbie wants to buy during the dip, waiting for the dip is the best way to go about it, rather he can start acumulating Bitcoin gradually and consistency, then buy agressively at any slightest dip, I do not buy the idea of doing nothing by deceiving oneself that they want to buy the dip.

If a guy already has a relatively aggressive bitcoin buying routine of buying bitcoin every week, then I don't know why he would have any extra money for buying the dip, since if he has extra money to buy the dip, then he probably was not buying as aggressively as he had though that he was in his regular weekly bitcoin buys.
This is reason why having a clear plan is so important, because someone can have a plan of buying bitcoin weekly, but still keep some cash aside purposely for the dip, I think if someone have decided to buy weekly then that should present a serious part of what they are putting into bitcoin investment, if not, they may b holding more than they think, just because of waiting for dip.and the problem with people who always want dip to happen is that, when it happens there’s still another excuse that would make them to wait for another lower price.
But the advantage of consistency is that you don’t need to wait for bitcoin price becomes cheap before start, what matter is to keep adding to your already existing bitcoin, that’s just different.
This is why the DCA strategy is mostly preferably to use because it doesn't support waiting for any price before one can purchase BTC, those who wait for the dip doesn't always have a desire price as they always keep postponing and procrastinating till they miss out the opportunity of getting started with their bitcoin investment, those who wait for the dip doesn't buy enough bitcoin because the dip doesn't come all the time and we can't really tell when it will come, so consistently accumulating BTC regularly using the dca strategy should be what a serious investor should be doing, it's traders who practically waits for price to drop so they can buy and ready to sell when the price goes up as if they know what price will move will be the next move.

You need to have in mind that holding up for the long term is not a direct ticket to getting you a huge profit, rather it can increase the chances, market cycles can perform differently and no one can too sure about what the future holds. There are reasons why anyone can be mentally broken about investing in Bitcoin, those that get in to Bitcoin with over expectations can fall in the likelihood of being mentally broken, remember that the market is volatile and it has no respect over your expectations. Success in Bitcoin investment is not guaranteed even if you hold for the long term.

Investing in Bitcoin would be the best plan but there is no sure way to guarantee that you will get huge profits by investing in this currency for long term as the Bitcoin market fluctuates a lot, but in my opinion those who decide to sell in bullish times after long term holding and enough Bitcoins accumulated in the portfolio may be able to make some profit.

The reasons for the long-term potential in Bitcoin investment are: 1) Short supply: We all know that the total supply of Bitcoin is limited to 21 million which helps to maintain its long-term value, 2) Institutional acceptance: Many countries including major corporations and almost eight states of the United States are investing in this currency, thereby increasing its acceptance. 3) Besides, the main point is that there is a history of seeing profits in a four year long cycle as per past data, that is those who patiently hold at least 1-2 two cycles of bitcoins have some chance of profit. Therefore, I believe that every investor should consistently purchase fractional amounts of Bitcoin with their earnings and hold onto them patiently for the long term.

I don't agree to your idea. Because long term bitcoin accumulation is not simply about chasing profit. Rather you can see it as another way of saving part of the money you don't need today for something may may need in the future.

For me whenever I have some discretionary money available, I would rather put a portion into bitcoin and leave it there for the long term than spend everything immediately. Because I don't  know what bitcoin's price will be in the future, so I don't build my plan around guaranteed profits.

My focus is to accumulate  bitcoin consistently using the DCA strategy as long as I have discretionary income and hold for long term growth.

It is to stick the mind on longterm investing bitcoin but one should know even in longterm it is not a guarantee for profit. An investment being longterm dont mean it has no risk. While investing in Bitcoin it is better not to hsve so much expectation about the investment. In a longterm investment investors makes wrong decisions or may have challenge that can drastically affect the outcome of the investment this why investors must not have that mindset of seing Bitcoin investment as %100 profitable.

I totally disagree with you dude, the fact that nothing is guarantee in Bitcoin investment doesn't mean someone should not have expectation in their investment and come to think of it, how will you be investing in something without having an expectation? Does this sound okay to you? Of course it doesn't and will never sound okay in the ear. There is nothing certain in the future of Bitcoin yet we believe it will do well and we are expecting something tangible in years coming, investing without expectation is not investment but rather a play and a waste of investment.

Having expectations is not a bad thing, but I believe that he is trying to throw caution to the wind for people like you to understand that nothing is promised, so that you wouldn't go all in on your bitcoin investment.

I believe that we are all investing in Bitcoin because of it history and potential it have, so even though the future is bright, that doesn't mean that we should go all in, because nothing is 100% certain in this world, that's why we are advice not to go all in, or invest away from our discretionary income.

However, you’re wrong for thinking that profit is guaranteed while investing in bitcoin for the long term, it’s not good to have that mindset that investing in bitcoin for the long term automatically means that you’re in for a huge profit, you can also be in huge loose, anything can happen while investing in bitcoin, which is why you’re always advised to invest in bitcoin with your discretionary income, I think there are newbies who would read your statement and will immediately have it in mind that if you invest in bitcoin for the long term that they will automatically have huge profits, the reason why people invest for long term is to have opportunities of profits but it’s not guaranteed.

It's not all bitcoin investors that investing for the sake of making profits and have some expectations of profit in future. Some investors are investing into bitcoin in order to save the value of their wealth since, they don't have the confidence in fiat because it's prone to inflation.

Bitcoin is a long term store of value and it's good to save your hard earned money from inflation by investing into bitcoin than keeping it in the bank. Profit is an additional benefits for investing into bitcoin.

Everyone has experienced similar experiences, especially when their hopes sometimes fail to achieve what they desire. This leads to a cautious approach in future decisions, with the goal of maximizing their returns on their Bitcoin investments.

There's no need to be overly hopeful, although some acknowledge that investing in Bitcoin can be a valuable investment, believing that bright returns will emerge in the future when the long-term investment horizon reaches its limit.

Currently, market movements are difficult to predict, especially as the decline has occurred again in recent days, although today there has been a slight increase, bringing the Bitcoin market price to $85,000. However, this doesn't mean it will remain at that level for long, and further declines could occur. Therefore, we need to be cautious and avoid the risk of failure in Bitcoin investments.

This is how Bitcoin evolve, since many people think that its a hedge against inflation now.

Fiat is heavily affected by heavy inflation each years pass. This is why lots of people lost their interest to hold it.

Profit is provably a bonus here, since what's more bigger aspect to look at is we already have an asset which government has no control, also it can possibly hold great value across on many generations to come.

Hope encourages people to do something and Bitcoin has been fulfilling people's expectations for a long time. However, it may not be the case for people with unstable mindsets. So it is certainly normal to have expectations in Bitcoin, but expectation and certainty are not the same thing. Investors may believe that Bitcoin will do well in the long run‌ but because of that belief, we should not invest money that we may need in the near future.

On the other hand, the most important thing for long-term investors is to accumulate regularly with strong faith in Bitcoin. At the same time, continue to invest with discretionary income and have backup funds separate. By managing investments in this way both the risk management of the investment and the optimism of Bitcoin are maintained.

I also agree with you that discretionary income and money that we can afford to lose are not the same things. No one is always ready to lose all of their discretionary income. Here this amount is high or just creating bad feelings does not seem to be a sufficient reason for it. Another thing to keep in mind is whether this amount, if actually locked in for a period of 4 to 10 years, then will it put meaningful pressure on an investors financial situation, backup needs  in life? . And I want to clarify a little about your example. Within the $70 discretionary income, some can go to creating a backup or reserve fund, and some can also be used for discretionary consumption. So through this discretionary fund  investments, savings and discretionary consumption, all three have to be allocated. Another thing we should emphasize is that psychological discomfort and financial affordability are not always the same thing. Some people may be emotionally upset even after a very small loss, but there are many who can control their emotions and make decisions calmly even after large loss. Financial capability does not necessarily mean mental capability. Therefore, the amount of discretionary income to set aside for buying Bitcoin depends on the overall condition of the person. Bitcoin accumulation is not a one time budgeting exercise. It is an ongoing process of cash flow management.

I understand that you're trying to make a point here, but I also think it is very important that we address certain things from the right perspective or angle, and refrain from generalising things. "Holding Bitcoin for a long term is not a direct ticket to getting huge profits", of course, that's true especially for situations where an investor didn't accumulate much, or isn't sticking to a long term plan. But It would be very wrong not to make an exemption, especially for those who invested while Bitcoin was still growing in its early phase, and are still holding it to this day.

Having expectations is not entirely bad, but when your investment plans and your accumulation don't match the results you're expecting, then an investor is bound to experience disappointment.

And one thing I have come to understand is that the definition of profit can be subjective. It seems when most people hear the word profits, the first thing that often comes to their mind is 2X and above of what was originally invested, while neglecting that even a dollar fits the perfect description. But that's a different discussion entirely.

Quote
Success in Bitcoin investment is not guaranteed even if you hold for the long term.

But wasn't that the primary reason why we all chose to encourage long term investment judging by the fact that it has proven to be more successful for long term holders ?. You can as well go through Bitcoin's price history...  That alone has replaced investors doubts with confidence over the years. But we learn everyday, so if you actually have facts to back up the claim of what was quoted above, you can share them.

PS: when I say facts, you can actually give an example using Bitcoin's price history.

I believe there's a distinction between having faith in Bitcoin and investing in Bitcoin. You may have the conviction that Bitcoin will have a long run future, but choose to only put in a small fraction of your money. A clear risk limit can even help you to keep your position during conditions of large corrections since you're no longer pushed out of your position by financial pressure. Bitcoin's historical performance can be used as a guideline but shouldn't be used as a predictor for future returns. Faith should, therefore, be backed up by good risk management, rather than blind faith.
Having faith in something does not mean you should not act with decorum, it simple means you consider that thing worthy of your trust to be able to put resources into it. To invest in Bitcoin, you have to have faith in it but that does replace common sense which is needed to know that one cannot invest money for his basic needs into Bitcoin. The need to invest in Bitcoin with only discretionary income is not only in compliance with having faith in Bitcoin but also to make the best of the opportunity of investing in Bitcoin which is holding for long and never destroying the Bitcoin asset over little issues.

Having faith in Bitcoin is one major reason why people invest in Bitcoin irrespective of the amount. And then that you have faith in something doesn't grant any reason to be careless about that thing, that you have faith should mean more attention and care and in the case of Bitcoin investment, that means ensuring using appropriate funds that won't put your faith in jeopardy and following other investment principles that will help keep your faith alive as Bitcoin remains.

You're right, fiat can no longer longer be trusted in term of inflation so the best option for store of value is Bitcoin, it has given people hope that they can store their wealth in it and not get affected by inflation that’s why many people are embarrassing and not necessarily about profits.

Least we forget that Satoshi didn't create Bitcoin for profits, but an alternative peer-to-peer currency created when the bank over printed paper money and caused serious inflation. That's why Satoshi made the supply limited so it can perfectly serve the purpose of being a good inflation hedge as well as other usage.
