This thread is about investing and homding Bitcoin for long and not for trading. We don't use technical analysis here because there is really no point to analyze the market before buying because we don't care about what the price is whenever we want to buy.
That just it most especially as a beginner, the fastest way to lose your money is to be relying on some magic technical indicator to predict Bitcoin price. Charts and indicators don’t matters at all, when you are investing for a long term using DCA. That stress of trying to time the market, that the whole point of DCA strategy is removing. With just your discretionary income, you just buy consistently whether is it that the price is dumping or pumping. You will see that once you starts to observe charts and trying to trade swings, you can make an emotional mistake and you get wrecked. Sticking to this boring ( that most people do call it) and patience plan of buying and holding is actually a sure way it actually works.

Age can play a role or determine how long some can invest, but I think we should be careful not to make age a bigger factor than it should be. Though you have rightly separated someone ability to invest from how much they can invest and for how long. However, I don't think the later point should be used to discourage older people from participating in accumulating bitcoin.
Imagine a 67 year old man who has a regular income, enough money for his daily needs, some savings, no debt and If he decides to use some part of his surplus income to invest in bitcoin for his children or grandchildren, I don't think his age should be a major concern? Though he may not live long enough to enjoy the investment himself, but that does not mean the investment has no purpose.
And also being young don't automatically make someone a better investor. A 25 year old who invests money meant for rent or business expenses may be in a worse position than a 67 year old who invests consistently using his surplus money and with a clear plan.
For me the adjustment I would make is this, age should help determine the investment strategy, and not automatically determine whether someone should invest. What matters most is the person's financial position, purpose, and the time available for that particular goal.
You’re just cooking up scenarios in your head and twisting it to suit your narrative. Who cares if a 67 years old man has kids/ grandkids or whether he will invest on their behalf or not. We are talking about personal investing here, so it is better to keep it that way not make up shit just to prove point. Of course older folks can choose to invest in Bitcoin. But the main point here is that age can affect how long an older person has to hold and wait for his investment to grow compared to a younger person. Even your comparison between a 67 years guy snd 25 years guy does not connect with your argument. Your example is a problem of poor financial decision, not age. A young person can make bad investment decisions, same way an older person can do the same. So what are you saying?

You made mention of people that are old that are seriously accumulating bitcoin but neglect the time factor, how long they are to hold since they are already old. For people who are still at the age of 30 and above holding bitcoin may not be an issue compared to someone that is already in his 70s. There are ages that you may reach holding bitcoin for like 10years or more may not be that easy. Also at old age health issues may also become a problem because as people get old their health tend to depreciate. For someone that is already 70+, age is an important while factor to be considered while buying bitcoin.
It all depends on how they plan their investment, there is likely to be a older person whose goal is to hold his Bitcoin for 10-15 years while some might be lower than that probably 4-5 years. And don't be surprise to see them achieving their investment target, one thing about this life is this; whatever thing you're doing first you need to be positive and just believe that you can do it, don't even hope for failure or even see your age as a barrier. I believe that 70 years is not the cut off point for everyone some people have gone past that stage if you haven't seen one personally I have seen many of them, so it is possible for a 70 years old man to be seriously accumulating bitcoin with long term mindset because some older people believe that they still have more time to live on earth that is why sometimes they tend do things irrespective of their age.

Great outline JJG, I really agree with this. Especially the first one - Don't get rekt. Many newbies start with trading or leverage and lose everything before they even understand Bitcoin. Thanks for sharing these principles. A well planned patient trading can be profitable if we follow such rules.
Are you an AI agent? Because from what you said, it doesn't seem like it was written by a human.. Because if you follow this thread and read it carefully, it doesn't discuss trading at all, but investment.. Unless you just gave a few points to an AI agent and then saw that because this is in the "trading discussion' section", the agent concluded that this is a trading discussion.. then it's normal for you to respond like this.

Didn't you at the very least read the title of the thread? The absence of the word trading in the title should already have informed you that trading isn't welcomed here...I am in no position to lecture you, so do well to lecture yourself by going back and re-read through the OP's outline as contained in the first page of this thread... Coz whatever you claimed to have read or didn't is obviously wrong...And that's coz trading when considered on the long run has a very high percentage of producing more losses than profits...Even investment, there isn't any guarantee of being profitable from it since Bitcoin is very well a volatile asset, but the again when compared to trading, long term investment has a higher chance of putting folks in better position when the investment duration is long termed...

What you said about trading is not appropriate here at all, you are new so you must enter the link below and see the first post of this topic. Because you have to post here based on the main topic of this topic. Moreover, you can divert the discussion in the other direction, so be careful not to confuse anyone with such useless posts. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5376945.msg58719584#msg58719584That stress of trying to time the market, that the whole point of DCA strategy is removing. So that the more optional income you invest in Bitcoin, the more likely you are to keep it for a long time, Bitcoin investment can only be kept by following a strategy. So these things should be known by every investor from the initial stage, but a new investor can also participate in Bitcoin investment by only maintaining the continuity of Bitcoin purchase. Bitcoin investment is much easier to keep in the future days by just being patient and thoughtful and following other own strategies.

I try to understand what you mean, reading from your first outline it shows that you know that trading in bitcoin for a short time could get the trader lose everything or be at lost, alot of people has try to put you through. I'm convinced that your fault is using the term trading in your last sentence, maybe what you would have say is a planned patient investor who buys and hold for long can be profitable with their investment but not guarantee if they follow up JJG rules, i know very well that JJG wouldn't advise anyone to trade bitcoin rather invest for a long time.

Bitcoin investment is not impossible neither is it rosey because sometimes one will encounter challenges that can even pose a threat on their Bitcoin investment even to the point of trying to sell that is why it is not all rosey. Saving seed phrase can be easy like you said but the problem is how secure and safe it is where you wrote it down because our seed phrase can never be 100 percent secure or save because it can be compromised mistakenly or misplaced. Age is not a factor but I would not advise an under 10 to be thinking about Bitcoin investment I mean their parents can handle it for them till they are of age.
It's sweet when you are making a profit, but before you make a profit, you have to be ready to make the sacrifice, because there are a lot of challenges that you are going to face, especially when it comes to selling. A lot of people are always tempted to sell, and that is why, instead of wanting to sell, it will be better for your emergency funds to take care of financial challenges, because that way we are going to solve our financial issues through our emergency funds. Then the security of how coin should also be prioritized anything aside from buying should not be entertained, and there are a lot of vendors out there that are legit, so we need to be conscious of intruders coming with a lot of updates that they might want to use to scam you. Because of other people's greed, they have fallen victim to these guys, so these are things that people need to be very careful of, but because of their greed, it becomes hard. It's just useless to be tempted to sell your Bitcoin for the sake of the profit that is available. Challenges can warrant such decision but selling Bitcoin asset should be the last option after check and balance of other probable options. And this tirelessly reiterates the need for emergency funds as part of healthy investment measures. Emergency funds can actually reduce or undermine the temptation of selling Bitcoin asset.

Actually you don't understand the meaning of the headline of this thread by JJG because you need to understand what is meant by Bitcoin Investment Outline, in simple words Bitcoin Investment Outline is the short form or structure of the future plan of Bitcoin Investment or how to implement long term investment. Even though it is true that if one uses margin or leverage then there is a high chance of losing the entire capital or margin but if one starts investing in Bitcoin immediately with little capital then his investment portfolio will grow gradually, so everyone should think about BTC, Bitcoin portfolio management and other things related to Bitcoin investment. Even I think the outline of long-term Bitcoin investment is, start with small initial capital--start with DCA--Secure the wallet or cold storage where we will keep our investments--hodl Bitcoin investment patiently for multiple cycles.

These are trading practices, guys that engage in them aren't investors anymore but have drifted off to trading which involves timing the market and making investment decisions based on market sentiment and price. Real investors are more focused on buying consistently regardless of price and market sentiment. The goal should be adding consistently to your portfolio and aiming to reach your accumulation target faster. Focusing on the markets is distraction and it can adversely affect your investment journey, consistency always beats gambling on the price. Sticking to this boring ( that most people do call it) and patience plan of buying and holding is actually a sure way it actually works.
DCA is not boring if you make it a priority, when guys see it as boring, they're seeking reasons not to keep buying consistently and holding. Consistency is a demonstration of your commitment to your investment journey. It might be a bit challenging to keep up but attempting to secure your financial future is worth all the efforts.

There can be some confusion among new investors about the size of the emergency fund. One reason is that they do not understand the extent of future emergency needs. Some have expressed their opinion on keeping an emergency fund equal to 3 months of family needs, while others say 6 months. In my opinion, the amount of the emergency fund needs to be built on your financial capacity. Some keep a larger amount of emergency fund for additional financial security. The purpose of the emergency fund should not be limited to keeping Bitcoin holdings safe. If you are not involved in investing build this fund for life saving or other emergency needs. In fund management it is important to keep an allocation for Bitcoin from discretionary income just as you should keep an allocation for Bitcoin only then can you reach the stage of Bitcoin overaccumulation.

I disagree with you buddy because a person need money at any age and if you are saying 70 years old has to stop investing because of age factor
There are no age limits to invest in bitcoin. It doesn't matter whether you are in your 70s or above so long as you are healthy and has discretionary income available, you can invest in bitcoin. Bitcoin investment is open to everyone irrespective of age, race or profession. There are people who are in their old age that are ongoing accumulating bitcoin. They may not have as much time to accumulate bitcoin as young people do but they can still accumulate a large stash of it before they grow weaker so there children can inherit it when they are gone. The fact that you are old shouldn't stop you from investing in bitcoin, so start investing while you still can using your discretionary income and hold for the long term, even if you might not be there to enjoy the harvest, your children will. Maybe you are missing part of the point that has been being discussed in recent posts in this thread about age, @Cossyblack? It seems to me that age is a very important factor to consider, especially when a guy is getting into his 70s or more, whether the guy is a brand new bitcoin investor or maybe he is a continued bitcoin investor still considering the extent to which he wants to continue to add to his bitcoin stack. DCA strategy of Bitcoin investment is a strategy that enables investors to plan better, and it also has risk management. There is nothing to plan so much about investing in Bitcoin; one only needs to understand to invest the amount you can afford to lose with your discretionary income, and the DCA strategy enables one to accumulate Bitcoin, which helps investors to invest without being pressured.
DCA strategy is a very good strategy for investors because with this, you have to consider your financial strength and invest based on your ability. If you take away the DCA strategy, there may be no plan for investing, and it will make investing challenging for some people.
I disagree with the bold statement, DCA method does not actually enable investors to plan better rather it is the duty and a principle for every investor to plan better before starting any investment Your desire to correct Rockstarguy seems a bit out of place, since using DCA does allow for a person to manage their budget better, and so they can adapt the amount that they are putting into bitcoin on a weekly basis (or whatever might be their time period), and they can counter-balance their DCA amount with how much they are saving and/or discretionarily consuming. Your assertion that planning is needed before starting to invest in bitcoin is also wrong, since the only thing needed to start buying bitcoin is discretionary funds. A guy can plan as he goes. Sure if he has a plan when he starts to invest into bitcoin, then that can be helpful, but he does not need to have a plan before getting started buying bitcoin as long as he has the ability to figure out that he has discretionary funds. and DCA method does not have risk management but rather it is also investor who understand and know what he or she is doing do manage their risk while investing,
I will agree with you that risk management involves a variety of factors beyond just using DCA, yet a DCA approach to bitcoin buying may well help a bitcoin accumulator to manage his risks in terms of choosing how much money to allocate to buying bitcoin each week, how much to allocate towards savings and how much to allocate towards discretionary consumption. You seem to be quibbling when you are fighting against the use of DCA as a good way to better manage money on whatever period of time a person ends up buying bitcoin. if you say DCA help in risk management why do some people still invest with what they can not afford to lose,
You are correct to suggest that DCA does not solve all problems and guys who use DCA still need to figure out the amount that they are going to allocate to bitcoin as compared to how much they are going to save and how much they are going to discretionarily consume, so if they end up overly investing in bitcoin or even if they end up spending beyond their discretionary income and/or not keeping sufficient back up funds, then they may end up discovering that they had invested too much into bitcoin, and so guys who employ DCA could still end up screwing up their finances when they are making their decisions about how to spend their discretionary funds and how to attempt to strike a balance that involves investing no more than they can afford to lose. note; DCA is just a method and then how smooth and great one's investing is going is person's identity, how they have perfected their system and process of accumulating.
Sure. DCA is just one tool in the quiver of tools, and they have to figure out how to use the DCA tool along with other ways of making sure that they are balancing the amount that they put into bitcoin as compared to other places that they might spend their discretionary income. Great outline JJG, I really agree with this. Especially the first one - Don't get rekt. Many newbies start with trading or leverage and lose everything before they even understand Bitcoin. Thanks for sharing these principles. A well planned patient trading can be profitable if we follow such rules.
This thread is not about trading, and I frequently distinguish trading and investing, so hopefully you can read more of the thread and come to understand the differences between trading and investing, to the extent that you are actually interested in the topic of this thread, which happens to be my investment ideas. I agree with the idea of only using discretionary funds for trading bitcoin because it has no fundamentals. Btw a promising new technical indicator has just been made available, this thing is powerful, it litterally predicts bitcoin, the graphs on the chart are realtime: [removed seemingly scammy link] Anyone familiar with [removed seemingly scammy link]?
I don't know why newbie like you loves trading and be wasting your money in the name of trading, because you all think that you can get rich quickly through it, without even knowing that it's way difficult than investing in Bitcoin that is more rewarding and less stressful. Just buy consistently and hold, and you will never regret it mate. You @Homemade-IQ quoted a post that had been deleted (not by me, probably by an admin), yet I would suggest that at minimum, you remove the links from your post (so that others do not click on those links), otherwise your post might be deleted by me or by an administrator.. mostly based on the two seemingly scammy links contained therein.

This thread is about investing and homding Bitcoin for long and not for trading. We don't use technical analysis here because there is really no point to analyze the market before buying because we don't care about what the price is whenever we want to buy.

DCA is less of a mathematical optimization strategy and more of a behavioral firewall because it accepts that humans are emotional and designs a process that works with that reality instead of fighting it. With DCA, the probability of you being invested in the bitcoin market is maximized, and for most people, staying invested through various market cycles is the single biggest determinant for a good long term result.

They focus because they have far better knowledge than those who sometimes act out of necessity, often avoiding it. This is what differentiates them from true investors who act without considering market sentiment and prices. So, it's natural I think that these investors have more citing their growing portfolios due to their focus and consistency in building without worrying about both market sentiment and price. A person building a portfolio must have a target, because with the intention of the target, I am sure those who do it will achieve that target with persistence in protecting it with the journey they take will be maximized with consistency and their focus on the goals they want to achieve. I think this is the way we must do to be able to achieve the target of accumulating Bitcoin in building a portfolio.

It is not right to exclude someone from direct investment because of age. Get the fuck out of here with your nonsense proclamation. Each person, whether old or young, decides for himself whether or not to invest into bitcoin and if so how much. If we are talking about guys 70 or older being affected by age and/or health, we are talking about a real world factor that they are quite likely needing to account for, whether they choose to invest into bitcoin or not and/or whether they might have had already been investing into bitcoin prior to reaching 70 years or more. However, the conclusion that age has no effect because there is discretionary income even at the age of 70-80 or more is not enough for the discussion. You have given the conditions of good health and discretionary income, but the investment period and the purpose of using that money must also be seen at the same time.
Someone's ability to buy and being able to hold on to it for as long as necessary are not the same thing. The future medical expenses, income continuity or need to use one's own money of someone you see healthy today cannot be decided by looking at age or current surplus alone. Again, it is not right to think that being old means one's opportunities are over.
You mostly make sense in this last portion of your post, even though you seem to be contradicting the way that you started out your post. [edited out]
Age can play a role or determine how long some can invest, but I think we should be careful not to make age a bigger factor than it should be. I agreed with everything that you said up to this point, until, in your example, you seem to be proclaiming that the 67 year old guy would be investing for his children and/or his grandchildren rather than for himself. Get the fuck out of here with that nonsense. Why can't you stick to the hypothetical guy considering his own age/health and his living situation rather than proclaiming that such guy has to be investing for his heirs rather than accounting for his own age/health situation. You seem to be taking the easy way out in your attempt to analyze the extent to which the guy would be investing in bitcoin with only an intention for his heirs. Though he may not live long enough to enjoy the investment himself, but that does not mean the investment has no purpose.
You are lazy to stick with a presumption that your hypothetical guy only has a purpose for his heirs. Maybe you should at least try to come up with a better example without being so lazy? And also being young don't automatically make someone a better investor. A 25 year old who invests money meant for rent or business expenses may be in a worse position than a 67 year old who invests consistently using his surplus money and with a clear plan.
There is no reason to compare the 67 year old with a 25 year old and whether he might be better or worse, and who the fuck cares? Stick with the 67 year old and figure out whether he has a 4-10 year or longer timeline, and then perhaps account for his 9 individual factors rather than being lazy and proclaiming that his only purpose to invest into bitcoin would be for his heirs. As I already suggested in some of my earlier posts on the topic, that kind of an heir only purpose assessment of the situation of an elderly is pathetic. For me the adjustment I would make is this, age should help determine the investment strategy, and not automatically determine whether someone should invest. What matters most is the person's financial position, purpose, and the time available for that particular goal.
Ok. Lay out your example a bit better and account for financial position, purpose (the aimed goal), and time available. I agree with the idea of only using discretionary funds for trading bitcoin because it has no fundamentals. Btw a promising new technical indicator has just been made available, this thing is powerful, it litterally predicts bitcoin, the graphs on the chart are realtime: [removed seemingly scammy link] Anyone familiar with [removed seemingly scammy link]
This thread is about investing and homding Bitcoin for long and not for trading. We don't use technical analysis here because there is really no point to analyze the market before buying because we don't care about what the price is whenever we want to buy. As much as possible, try to avoid trading now that you are relatively new to the whole thing because you will likely lose the money you would have used to invest in Bitcoin and hold. A lot of us started with trading and that have been our biggest regrets because we traded away the capital that would have been used to accumulate enough Bitcoin and hold. Just put effort into using the recommendations outlined by JJG in the forst post of this topic. You @Moreno233 quoted a post that had been deleted (not by me, probably by an admin), yet I would suggest that at minimum, you remove the links from your post (so that others do not click on those links), otherwise your post might be deleted by me or by an administrator.. mostly based on the two seemingly scammy links contained therein.

1) Self-Custody is a right. Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted." 2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized. 3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Great outline JJG, I really agree with this. Especially the first one - Don't get rekt. Many newbies start with trading or leverage and lose everything before they even understand Bitcoin. Thanks for sharing these principles. A well planned patient trading can be profitable if we follow such rules.
I agreed especially in this thread there is no point in showing bitcoin investment and trading together. Anyone can get a good idea about investing in bitcoin according to their lifestyle, if they read the initial posts of this thread of JJG well. All the topics have been discussed in detail there. And I got my inspiration for investing mainly from this thread. It has been explained very well there, how a person can accumulate bitcoin in the long term in accordance with their financial situation and manage their holdings later. Along with this, personal factors have also been discussed there, where a person can initially determine discretionary income from their income and expenses. He will not only invest in bitcoin relying on the idea that the price of bitcoin will increase in the future, but will also understand how much it is realistic to invest in his current situation and whether he has the ability to maintain that investment for a long time. As a result, investing in bitcoin will be easier and you will be able to get out of the trading mindset. In addition, an idea has also been given about how long a person will invest and how to maintain his holdings in the future and how to use them in a sustainable way. Here, the discussion has been made according to the overall situation, where anyone can understand whether he should invest in bitcoin or not according to his own position. And if he invests, how many years he will manage that investment and when he will start using those holdings according to his own situation. The main topic of this thread is long-term investment and that is what has been discussed here. And if someone wants to invest in bitcoin, then he should understand his financial situation at the beginning and decide to invest in bitcoin.

You seem to be contributing to "the confusion" about back up funds (emergency funds) @Olatundespo Guys do not tend to start with back up funds, so they can build them while they build their bitcoin holdings. So sure, there could be some guys who start out with 2-6 weeks of back up funds, and others might start out with some other amount, but they can build their back up funds, and depending on their discretionary funds, it could take them 12 months or even quite a bit more to build their back up funds up to 3 months of their expenses. I don't know why the fuck you are proclaiming that there is some issue about whether to build up 3 months or 6 months, since there is no issue in this thread, since 3 months comes before 6 months, and it may be totally retarded to be focusing on building up back up funds greater than 3 months unless either the amount invested into bitcoin had been 6 months or more of expenses or maybe the bitcoin had appreciated to such an extent that it justifies building up greater levels of back up funds. Of course, if someone has a lot of uncertainties in their income and/or expenses and/or they might even know that they are likely to suffer from loss of future income or increased future expenses, then in those circumstances, they might well be justified to build up back up funds greater than 3 months.. yet even then building up back up funds of anything close to 6 months might seem like bad financial management...so it seems a bit retarded to be proclaiming that there is some 3-6 month spread in this thread, when there is not... my ideas do not presume 3-6 months, but instead, I suggest working up to 3 months, and then perhaps building some more based on an ongoing building of the bitcoin holdings or maybe some special cashflow circumstances that might justify building more than 3 months of back up funds.
