Great outline JJG, I really agree with this. Especially the first one - Don't get rekt. Many newbies start with trading or leverage and lose everything before they even understand Bitcoin. Thanks for sharing these principles. A well planned patient trading can be profitable if we follow such rules.
I try to understand what you mean, reading from your first outline it shows that you know that trading in bitcoin for a short time could get the trader lose everything or be at lost, alot of people has try to put you through.

I'm convinced that your fault is using the term trading in your last sentence, maybe what you would have say is a planned patient investor who buys and hold for long can be profitable with their investment but not guarantee if they follow up JJG rules, i know very well that JJG wouldn't advise anyone to trade bitcoin rather invest for a long time.

Every investors goal is to hold for long term and achieve a good return in the end or the future, trading is not a bad idea for those who want to do but it is different from long term investment, which is why no one will advise anyone to involve in trading their bitcoin for a short time profit because people lose their money in the process, most of newbies that want to know about bitcoin are eager to get a profit from bitcoin and is why their plan is to do something that will bring a good profit and it is not a good idea.

You can’t go into a trade without losing money, because it is different from investing in bitcoin for a long term, as a newbie that wants to succeed in bitcoin and achieve a good return or profit in the end, you have to be patient because if you are not patient you will end up selling your bitcoin or lose it in the end.

It always surprises me when an investor becomes more focused on quick profits than on long term investment.

Bitcoin and trading are two completely different things. Whether one agrees or not trading is a poor endeavor which is why JJG and all its members advise staying away from it. You might make a profit once or twice out of every 100 trades but the rest of the time, you will face losses that is simply the nature of trading. Very few people ever succeed at it.

Furthermore, there are no shortcut in investing. If someone suggests a shortcut to you consider it a trap. Falling into such a risky trap often leads to the loss of your invested capital. Instead use your discretionary income to build an emergency fund and invest regularly following the DCA  method. Stick to your investment plan and hold your assets for 4 to 10 years or even longer.

What you said here is true, because in trading losing your hard earned money is unavoidable no matter how skilled you are, but as a Bitcoin investors, all you just have to do is to buy, hold and be patient with your investment by not behaving like these newbies investors that will invest in it today, and be expecting to be rich in few months time.

Trading is not as profitable as investing in Bitcoin on the long term, like 10 years timeframe, because in trading you can make a lot of money this month and use only a day or a single bad trade to lose everything or even halve of what you have made, but investment in Bitcoin is nothing like that where you will be winning and losing it back at the same time, as if you are gambling.

It's just useless to be tempted to sell your Bitcoin for the sake of the profit that is available. Challenges can warrant such decision but selling Bitcoin asset should be the last option after check and balance of other probable options. And this tirelessly reiterates the need for emergency funds as part of healthy investment measures. Emergency funds can actually reduce or undermine the temptation of selling Bitcoin asset.
You may panic and feel the urge to sell your Bitcoin when you see that the market is favouring it, but that reaction is not the best course of action for an investor. What makes some people think to sell their assets when they see that the market rise is small is because they have no funds for ground as an emergency fund, and any investors should be aware of that so that if something urgent occurs, they won’t temper their investment. Having a plan to hold the Bitcoin investments for the long term is a great forward for every future investment.

It all depends on how they plan their investment, there is likely to be a older person whose goal is to hold his Bitcoin for 10-15 years while some might be lower than that probably 4-5 years. And don't be surprise to see them achieving their investment target, one thing about this life is this; whatever thing you're doing first you need to be positive and just believe that you can do it, don't even hope for failure or even see your age as a barrier. I believe that 70 years is not the  cut off point for everyone some people have gone past that stage if you haven't seen one personally I have seen many of them, so it is possible for a 70 years old man to be seriously accumulating bitcoin with long term mindset because some older people believe that they still have more time to  live on earth that is why sometimes they tend do things irrespective of their age.
Your argument is mainly base on believe than to answer the question at hand. The debate here is on how  long is suitable  or expected for a 70 year old man who is  accumulating  bitcoin expected to hold his bitcoin stash because of his current age.

When it comes to accumulating bitcoin especially for older people I believe it is better to be realistic and consider all the factors that may affect long term holding, its not just about being confident, patient, but also  health  and other financial reasons, it is also about having a realistic plan on how long that is suitable to hold bitcoin.

Even I think the outline of long-term Bitcoin investment is, start with small initial capital--start with DCA--Secure the wallet or cold storage where we will keep our investments--hodl Bitcoin investment patiently for multiple cycles.
Starting with small amounts and DCA can be a viable option. However, if you look at it as the only starting point for long-term Bitcoin investing, you are ignoring the differences in individual circumstances.

Someone may be new and you don't know how much money they can invest. Learning with small amounts may be useful for some, while others may want to consider their own circumstances and choose a relatively large allocation. There are two people, one with a discretionary income of $50 and the other with $1000. In this case, if you ask both of them to start with $20, it will not reveal the difference in their ability or needs. Again, the decision whether the second person should invest the full $1000 does not come from this information alone. You also need to look at their savings and upcoming expenses.

It's some investors that usually tempt themselves towards selling their Bitcoin too early by either mismanagement or being overly carried away by a present rise in Bitcoin price.
Somehow newbies are still being influenced to engage in trading and this is triggered by all the flattering drive for quick gains, check on the medias and see all the tireless adverts on trading, the highest some try to hold is for months or few years and they'll sell which is still trading. The patient required to hold Bitcoin for long term is lacking.

One other thing that a lot of investors are doing is their entry into the platform without having any reason for it and when they should leave the platform. The social media just throws focus on the profits but at the same time does not equally highlight the loss, the risks involved and the emotions experienced during such businesses. Unreasonable expectation from the market is the result of this practice especially for the new investors. If you decided to keep the coins, time doesn't matter. But a good plan helps not to make rash decisions based on the price change alone. The preparation includes knowing the risks involved, holding the emergency coins separately and investing the money one is not worried about losing in their daily life. There is nothing wrong with selling the coins but it is definitely unprofessional to sell them under pressure and because of greed instead of the strategy that was decided initially.

It's gamblers that does that, anyone who sell because he see the market is at his favor that he is in a little profit and sell without any serious emergency challenge is a gambler and not an investor.
A long time Bitcoin investor wouldn't sell when he hasn't hit his over accumulation because of little profit, most people through selling their Bitcoin end up becoming a no coiner which will lead to them regretting why they never hold Bitcoin.
Bitcoin should be accumulated regularly and hodl for long, having our emergency funds aside and DCA with our discretionary income.

You can’t go into a trade without losing money, because it is different from investing in bitcoin for a long term, as a newbie that wants to succeed in bitcoin and achieve a good return or profit in the end, you have to be patient because if you are not patient you will end up selling your bitcoin or lose it in the end.
There is one thing we must bear in mind before coming into the system is that, we can't cheat the system whether we like it or not. However, it has been cleared that for you to do well in bitcoin investment, you must possess a very strong holding mindset. You can't hit it quick or try to navigate an easier way around it without risking everything. Therefore, the best way to benefit from bitcoin investment without putting your effort and resources on the line is to go for the long term plan. Some dudes think it's hard to coup due to its long term nature but that is what guarantees the future to be honest. Short term trading will only appear good to you, but little do you know the level of damage you will be doing to yourself till you finally lost everything on a go.

Don't let any one or any quick profit mindset deceive you into what you will regret later. Venturing into bitcoin is very thoughtful but when you will realize the damage you have done to yourself is when you blindly run into trading and before you know everything is gone then you will understand better.

Having a plan to hold the Bitcoin investments for the long term is a great forward for every future investment.
You are confusing or confusing the desire to sell because the price has increased slightly with the need to sell to meet urgent expenses. It cannot be concluded that the person expressing the desire to sell because the price has increased does not have emergency funds. It happens that someone may be afraid of losing profits even after having the necessary savings. Again, someone may consider quick withdrawal of profits as success. In that case, the main problem is not the lack of money to meet expenses, but rather the mismatch between one's savings goals and the decision to sell. Even just increasing the emergency fund is not guaranteed to change this behavior.

An investor may want to save Bitcoin for a long time, setting aside money for his necessary expenses and emergency funds. But when the price increases a little, he thinks that he will sell now and buy it later at a lower price. Here his problem is not an urgent need, but rather he is shifting away from his plan to increase his savings and relying on the next price estimate.

Such a person is not an investor at all. Anyone that is carried away by little market increase is a trader and not an investor. We should know that the volatility of Bitcoin will always be there, and some situations, it is moving upwards, and sometimes, downwards or sideways. Rushing to sell shows that the person is a trader that is after quick gains. Investors HODL for different circles, 4-10 years and more. They don't rush to sell, they try to buy consistently using the DCA as they can afford.

An investor who gets affected by market price and moves to sell once he sees profits is not an investor but a trader cloaking to be an investor. Getting invested in bitcoin should be for the long term, we say minimum of 4-10years and one should invest with money from their discretionary income while building up backup funds to sustain their investments.

There are characters you need to build as an investor. You need to be disciplined, patient, confident in bitcoin and your plan and stick with it. Deviation will only cause you setbacks, like the example you gave; selling your bitcoin to buy back later is a very risky move and not advisable.. that is a trader’s mindset.

How long have you been buying Bitcoin? How long have you been HODLing, or how much is your portfolio worth that you are proclaiming it is not wrong to sell? Or are you an old time investor, I doubt.

No matter what, the better strategies to set for Bitcoin consistent buying through the DCA and a long term HODLing. Investments aren't a bed of roses, it wouldn't go smooth always, and a kind of investment like Bitcoin that is highly volatile, prices will always keep moving to and fro. But am investment mentality will help you HODL longer, manage your income and allocation, build up proper safety nets along the line and invest wisely. It's best to HODL rather than sell too quickly

I will want to understand or know the coin you are referring to because right now i don't know the coin you mean since you weren't specific about that, again i don't think we have anything like an emergency coin rather its called an emergency funds in bitcoin investment.

Now if the coin you mean is bitcoin then everything is wrong by selling your bitcoin when you are still at your early stage because you are still to be buying BTC by then, the only time an investor should sell their bitcoin is when they have reached their BTC over accumulation, and this doesn't mean they will sell all their BTC HODLing and become a no coiner no but rather they can sell small if necessary and continue to hold onto.

You can’t go into a trade without losing money, because it is different from investing in bitcoin for a long term, as a newbie that wants to succeed in bitcoin and achieve a good return or profit in the end, you have to be patient because if you are not patient you will end up selling your bitcoin or lose it in the end.

The point cannot be divided in such a way that losses are inevitable in short-term trading and profits are guaranteed in long-term investment. Although Bitcoin is quite risky in the short term, profits are not guaranteed in the long term. However, there is certainly logic in investing in the long term. You know that Bitcoin is a very volatile asset and this asset fluctuates even in the long term. If you invest the necessary amount, your long-term planner may also have to sell at inappropriate times. Therefore, not only setting a time limit will ensure profits, but at the same time, you have to consider how long you can keep the money you are investing or whether you will have to sell it when necessary. I know that buying regularly and according to your ability, especially for beginners, may be easier and more reasonable than guessing in the short term, but it does not guarantee profits.

The amount of time a guy has been buying bitcoin and how big their portfolio is definitely does matter especially whenever talks of selling comes up.
Normally you’d expect that someone who has been in the bitcoin market for years and has a significant portfolio size would have seen a lot of ups and downs, so any advice or take they give tends to carry some weight cos they seemingly have experience.

But yeah @Gragebox wasn’t necessarily proclaiming that guys should sell their bitcoin whenever they feel like, i think what he meant was that guys should not throw away their accumulation plan because of pressure or greed and IMO, he’s making a fair point, doesn’t matter if he’s a Pleb or a newbie, or how long you @Perfect-world have been around in the market.

Certainly, DCA and holding for the long term is still the better route for many folks, but please don’t use the “how long have you been buying” question to shut down the conversation, experience matters but that doesn’t make every other person’s view automatically wrong or invalid, at least not in this context.

That’s a great addition to the discussion. Bitcoin podcasts, useful forum threads, and other members’ experiences can provide valuable insights and help people deepen their understanding of Bitcoin. Sharing reliable resources makes the community stronger and helps everyone make more informed decisions. 👍

If you don’t have any meaningful contribution to make, don’t say anything or you can just read through replies instead of quoting a post from 5 years ago, comes off to me as spamming cos you’re not even saying any relevant thing. IMO your post should be removed.

Not every investor's goal may be to make a good profit. You don't actually know everyone's main goal. Someone's goal may be to accumulate wealth in the long term, someone's goal may be to preserve the value of savings, and someone may have specific financial goals. Did you know that when a person's goal is different, the timeframe and decisions may also be different.

Again, holding it for the long term is not a guarantee of good results. The price of Bitcoin may decrease, the investor must also consider his own income, necessary expenses, emergency funds, and how long he can keep the money intact.

Well, I agree with this after understanding what you said we can only sell after everything has reached the peak of our accumulation. It's impossible to sell what we've already accumulated after just a few months, or what could be called the early stages of our investment journey. Therefore, I agree with your idea our accumulation hasn't reached the peak we desire, especially since our goal is only to invest long-term. I also think that continuing to do this is a sign of their unpreparedness for Bitcoin investment.

There are often discussions in this forum regarding someone's readiness to start investing in Bitcoin and one of them is that each of us who wants to start more or less must have a reserve fund with the aim of if there is a deviation in the beginning of our accumulation, it seems that with this reserve fund we can not have to sacrifice what we have done in accumulation, because the accumulation we are doing is only for investing and investing I think still requires at least 2 years while gaining knowledge about the depth of investing and this often happens to those beginners who sometimes underestimate investment by not having an emergency fund as a support for the smoothness of their investment.

I don’t seem to understand your point or your argument here. Investors are expected to start from where they are at, there’s no defined amount/benchmark for starting small and neither was @Just Say suggesting any! I wonder how you got that impression.
The amount an investor chooses to start with is dependent on his choice and financial situation. One of the reasons beginners are advised to start small is so they don’t delay investing in the name of gathering knowledge of bitcoin, they can start small while undergoing the learning process and improve their investment when their knowledge and confidence in bitcoin grows.
