Yes, it's true that both trading and investing are not the same, but however, we can't disprove the fact that both have unique similarities, and the need for risk management is one similarity both investing and trading have in common, including the fact that everybody who goes into the two do so with the goal of making profits, and likewise it both involves the risk of financial loss. So he bringing in "Risk management" was not a misconception or neither was he trying to mislead newbies in any way.
Investors and traders are not similarly in anyway. They are different people with different views as regarding bitcoin. Risk management applies in any form of investment we are doing, be it bitcoin or any other form of investment, that alone cannot make investors and traders similar. I don’t know how someone who see bitcoin as commodity and someone who see bitcoin as an asset that is worth holding for life, are similar to each other. Investors are looking for ways to increase their portfolio, while the other party are looking for every possible opportunity to sell. Investors are long term holders, traders are short term holders. In reality investors and traders are like parallel lines, their views about bitcoin can never be the same.
You are right. The main difference between investing in bitcoin and trading is how long the person is buying bitcoin for. A trader usually tries to profit from the short term price movement of bitcoin. The main purpose of a bitcoin investor is to gradually build bitcoin holdings according to his financial capacity or buy bitcoin with a large amount and hold it for a long time. And this is why a trader gives a lot of importance to the volatility of short term . But an investor does not worry much about the short term movement of the market. An investor continues to invest in bitcoin regularly even if the amount is small. During this period, he does not think about profiting from bitcoin. He regularly dca in bitcoin with a long term mindset for financial security in the future. On the other hand, a trader might buy bitcoin for $1,000 and sell it after the price increases by 10%. Now he is waiting for the price to fall again to buy bitcoin. A trader and an investor can buy the same bitcoin, but who will actually profit depends on the plan and decision to buy that bitcoin. Even if you think logically, investing in a volatile asset like bitcoin for a long time increases the chances of profit. And whose past history proves this. So it is not being believed blindly.

How many times do I have to repeat that he ONLY needs discretionary income to get started, but you want to pollute this thread with vague assertions that he needs to know other things about wallets and vague ideas of "basic knowledge" that you don't even define before he can get started?

Why can't the beginner bitcoiner decide on his own whether he can start or not based on his having discretionary funds?

Why most people do stay on the sidelines forever, is the over complicating of the start.

One don’t need to master everything all, to buy your first $10! Your aren’t expected to master economic models, wallet security theory or even charts.

The possibility which the lack of technical knowledge will ever stop people from building wealth, overthinking stops far more than a lack of knowledge will ever.
When a user have paid off his/her basic need off and has spare cash left, practice teaches faster than reading theory for months, buying a small piece of bitcoin will teach you way far than a theory will do. This because action really builds understanding, this practical is just as simple…. You spare cash in …. You hold and you learn through all this processes as you grow.

That belief of getting everything perfectly before buying first bitcoin, still keeping many people behind till today. They don’t realize that the longer they wait to know bitcoin perfectly, the more they keep missing many opportunities and keep moving their starting point. because bitcoin investment is not what a serious investor will be looking at chart all the time thinking that the next moment may favor them. people need to understand this this, especially new investor who think buying on dips is the best approach. That’s not, the best approach is to start with little you have, after taking care of your basic needs, building bitcoin gradually with discretionary income is the best approach.
We should still understand that buying the dip isn't bad, when we want to explain anything we should make it in a way that people will understand, the dip is already in the circle of bitcoin, bitcoin is volatile which means it price can go up and still drop down whereas any one using the dca strategy will meet up with the dip and buy so we can't say it's a wrong approach because such investor bought the dip, but it can be said that waiting for the dip before buying is not the best approach because they are waiting for what they are not sure about and by so doing they miss out more buying opportunity in the market.

Buying the dip isn't bad rather waiting for the dip is what that is bad.

For sure, guys can work hard, and also figure out in which category (hypothetical) they fit, and it takes time to move from categories 13-15 and into categories 10-12, and we really cannot change our starting points, even though there could be ways that we work on our own systems to try to change our locations while we are in them, so yeah, with time, we might find ourselves in categories that we had not expected to find ourselves based on our recognizing where we are at and recognizing where we would prefer to try to get.

We cannot change our starting points but we can work hard to change our position in the future. If someone is from Hypo-15 (newbie BTC investor who came into bitcoin without any kind of investment portfolio) and he can only afford to invest 100$ per week into Bitcoin then he can move into Hypo-12 (1.25-years BTC investor who came into bitcoin without any kind of investment portfolio) provided he stay consistent by spending 100$ per week into Bitcoin for 1.25 year. After 1.25 years, he can have understanding that if he keep on investing 100$ per week into Bitcoin then he need to continue investing for next 10-15 years before he starts to feel that he has a decent number of Bitcoins. He also has realisation that he needs to increase the amount he is spending in Bitcoin to have good number of Bitcoin in his portfolio in future and for that he will look for ways to increase his discretionary income.

More on Hypo's here.

You should have a proper idea about investing in Bitcoin, how you will invest and how to sustain it for a long time, it is enough to follow this strategy. Yes, a new person should not waste his time to know everything about Bitcoin, but he should invest in Bitcoin along with investing.
There is no need of having a proper Idea about bitcoin since you need just your discretionary income to invest. Where you should need a proper Idea is to manage your income properly and figure out your discretionary income, because without your discretionary income, you can't invest in bitcoin. The time and energy you'll spend to have a proper knowledge about bitcoin should instead be focus on securing an additional source of discretionary income as this will increase your discretionary allocation and help you build a substantial stash over time.

Bitcoin investment certainly requires a reasonable income, but even then it is very reasonable for us to add some additional strategies such as building an emergency fund. We should definitely consider this situation. To be successful in Bitcoin investment, we must be patient, but a new investor can invest in Bitcoin freely.
If he can invest in Bitcoin using his income in a new situation, then this will be the best for him, patience is definitely the most important thing for Bitcoin investment.

Reasonable income meaning something big but this is not correct because having a reasonable doesn't determine one can invest in bitcoin. No matter the income one is earning it can still be invested in Bitcoin.  You only need the amount you can afford to lose to invest in Bitcoin and not a reasonable amount.  If you say a reasonable amount is meeded to invest in Bitcoin, this can mislead low earners from investing in bitcoin. So far as one is able to generate discretionary income from their income it is possible to invest Bitcoin. Bitcoin investment is not meant for only those who earn big but also for low earners to use the DCA strategy to accumulate bitcoin.

A new investor needs his discretionary income to invest into bitcoin and not his income because your income is to take care of your basic needs and monthly expenses. Any leftover is what should be used to invest into bitcoin so that, you don't end up using money for your basic needs to buy bitcoin and when your needs arises at that time bitcoin price id below your entry point, you sell at loss. It's not all income that has discretionary income.

This is why you must first figure out your discretionary income before investing into bitcoin. Patience is important but the most important is your discretionary income because if you don't have discretionary income, you cannot invest.

You certainly need an income to get a discretionary income. You are right, you don’t need much before investing in Bitcoin, these very reason have made some people delay their investing in bitcoin. You can’t delay your investing in bitcoin so long you have a discretionary income, no matter how small, so long it enough to buy any amount of bitcoin, the you should get started.

DCA is the best to invest with, just get a discretionary income and you can begin your investment. Sometimes we do get our discretionary income from other means, like wins from gambling, monetary gifts, winning of lotto and so many other ways. So you don’t need a reasonable fee to begin your investment, just have a discretionary income no matter how small and begin your journey.

There is no need of having a proper Idea about bitcoin since you need just your discretionary income to invest. Where you should need a proper Idea is to manage your income properly and figure out your discretionary income, because without your discretionary income, you can't invest in bitcoin. Bitcoin investment can be started with little income and the investor can build from that. We don't have to make it too scary to start investing in Bitcoin when the DCA strategy is there to help even low income earner to be able to start with the least amount they can comfortably invest in Bitcoin after sorting out their basic needs. We don't also have to make it look like only the rich can invest in Bitcoin, because that is not true, Bitcoin is for everyone that is able to have some discretionary income which is what is needed to be able to safely start a Bitcoin portfolio.

Buying the dip isn't bad rather waiting for the dip is what that is bad.

I see nothing wrong with buying the dip because it’s part of bitcoin volatility. Bitcoin price doesn’t move in a particular direction always, it can go up today and drop tomorrow. Anyone that uses DCA strategy will surely experience price drops and buy at a different prices, so we can’t say buying the did is a wrong approach.

The major problem here is when people wait for dip before investing, why I said so is because nobody can predict when the dip will happen or how far the price will drop. Personally for me, buying the dip isn’t bad but making dip your option before investing can make you miss out on the market.

Bitcoin investment certainly requires a reasonable income,
In bitcoin investment, people invest according to their level of income and financial risk tolerance so what you might be seeing as a reasonable income might not be reasonable for another person and what you might see as a non reasonable income might be what is reasonable for another individual. But the truth remains that we don’t need a reasonable income to start investing in bitcoin, what we need is just a discretionary income.

If he can invest in Bitcoin using his income
It has been said time without numbers here that the cash to use and invest in bitcoin is a discretionary income and not just income because the fact that someone have an income doesn’t mean he has a discretionary income. You don’t invest with all your income, what to do when an investor receives an income is to first sort out his basic needs and the remaining cash left with him which is the discretionary income should be used for bitcoin investment.

Exactly and I believe one does not have to be earning in millions before they can be able to invest in bitcoin but I will not be able to blame anyone who doesn't invest especially if such user is from my country because in my country as we speak people are just looking for ways to survive through this economy but in all, the DCA method makes room for everyone who truly wants to invest in bitcoin.

It is always a good idea to buy using discretionary income sources and we need to always continue investing through discretionary income. The first important step is to meet our own needs. If a person invests from his income source, he can invest the required amount of money, and that person may need that amount of money before the end of the period.

First of all, it is necessary to meet our needs and the amount of money that remains after meeting the needs is our discretionary income source. If a person invests outside the discretionary income and if that amount of money is needed, then he will definitely have to sell it and if at that time the price of Bitcoin is less than his purchase price, then he will have to face a loss and sell it, which is not the right decision at all. So use such an amount of money that you will not need in the long term and even if you face a loss, it will not affect your financial situation, this amount of money is the source of discretionary income.

The first thing you should know is that Bitcoin investment requires a discretionary income but we all know that a reasonable income for Bitcoin investment means an amount of income or income that is basically a reasonable income level in line with the cost of living, inflation and social reality. All speculations aside if you have a source of income that easily generates discretionary income then that amount of money seems to be enough to invest in bitcoins, though it depends on the individual's decision and earning capacity. I agree with you on this point that patience is needed to create a sustainable investment strategy and keep bitcoin investments for a long time, my idea is everyone should keep this in mind, that a new investor needs financial planning, common sense, and the right strategy to invest in Bitcoin independently.

This point is undoubtedly where most newbies mistake it or get it wrong while trying to invest in Bitcoin. You have an income, which doesn't automatically mean it's investment money, but your discretionary income is.

For instance, let's say you're earning $5000 a month, whereas your bills would take up about $4500, and you would have $500 left. In this case, you have only $500 discretionary income to invest and not $3000, $2000, or $1000 out of that $5k. Whereas in another case, let's say your friend is earning $1500 in a month and his bills take about $500, and he will be left with $1000. Now the person who earns $5000 seems richer on paper, but the one that earns $1500 and spends $500 has more investment capacity in a reality in this case.

Therefore, when it comes to investment, comparing income can be misleading sometimes, but rather we should be focused on what is left over after our bills.
One good thing about using a discretionary income is that it will protect your investment, in the sense that you won't panic sell your Bitcoin when you invest with such money because you have sorted every one of your bills while using what is left over.

Secondly, when it comes to the DCA approach with a discretionary income, you don't need to be a rich person to invest in Bitcoin; the small amount left can do wonders. Let's say you have $20 left. In a year, you have been able to invest $240 plus if you choose a month, and if it's a week, $1000 plus.

I am a bit confused, are you talking about the pre-investment situation or the initial investment situation? Or are you talking about the beginning to end of the investment?

It is not mandatory for us to know everything about Bitcoin to start investing and we should not spend much time to gain deep knowledge in the beginning. But after starting investing, you must have deep knowledge, why do you think that we do not need a proper understanding of Bitcoin?

I am a bit confused about your assertion that guys need to have deep knowledge to invest in bitcoin.

Sure, many times we talk about not needing to know anything to get started buying bitcoin as long as there is discretionary funds, then a guy can get started buying bitcoin.

Yet, ultimately, each guy chooses how whimpy or aggressive that he wants to be in regards to how much he invests, and also he chooses how whimpy or aggressive that he wants to be in terms of learning about bitcoin and/or cashflow management.

Many of us would presume that investing into bitcoin should incentivize guys to want to learn about bitcoin and about cashflow management, yet each person has their personality and they make choices about how much to prioritize bitcoin investing as compared with other things going on in their lives.  We cannot tell people what they should do, since it is up to them, even if we might realize that bitcoin is amongst the best, (if not the best place?) to put our time, energy and value, other folks might not come to those same conclusions  in regards to how to spend their time, energies and value.

After starting investing, you should have a deep understanding of risk management, investment management, financial management and fund management.

Sure.  Those are all good areas to learn while investing  into bitcoin, even though surely we cannot force others to learn about those topics and/or to pay attention to them.

At the same time, you will gain knowledge and apply that knowledge to manage investments.

You may well be correct that if guys build their wealth with bitcoin and cash (presuming that bitcoin is their first investment), then it may well logically follow that their wealth building will lead them towards having other investments, assets and perhaps other ways of holding cash.  The more wealth that we build, then the more it makes sense to have options in regards to how we are holding the wealth and even how we might later move it around and/or draw upon it from time to time.

In this thread, I presume that many guys do not have a lot of other investments when they come to bitcoin, yet we know that there are also guys who might come to bitcoin and already have other investments, so surely if they are building their bitcoin investment and figuring out how much of a priority they are giving to their bitcoin investment as compared to other places that they have value, then their having other investments gives them options, but their figuring out how bitcoin fits into their overall investment portfolio will also incentivize them to learn more about managing their various assets.

Personally, I don't tend to recommend getting other assets for the mere sake of doing it, so frequently it may well be the case that it would be better for guys to focus on building their bitcoin and cash up to a point in which maybe their cash is 3 months or more of their expenses and then their bitcoin is growing perhaps at a greater rate and it might get close to a year or their expenses, or the bitcoin might get to be more than a year of their expenses, and so the larger their bitcoin holdings, then the more it might make sense to hold larger amounts of value in cash or even in other assets that are cash-like but at a lower priority than their bitcoin.  It makes more sense to learn about and to apply those choices within the parameters that individuals have to weigh for themselves (like the 9 individual factors that I list).

If you think about managing long-term investments with general knowledge, then there is a possibility of taking wrong steps and your funds will also be at risk. It is necessary to have a proper understanding of Bitcoin, although it is not mandatory before investing or at the beginning, but it is very important to start investing.

I agree with you on this last part. It does seem that guys are better off to get started buying bitcoin and then learning about bitcoin and cashflow management as they are building their bitcoin stash, yet the level of their aggressiveness in regards to their investment is their choice, and surely we can think of historical examples in which guys may well end up profiting much more based on higher levels of aggressiveness, yet aggressiveness level is also a choice that likely ends up having consequences.  Earlier in the thread I list 15 hypotheticals that attempt to show how both time and level of aggressiveness tend to play out (or at least how they had historically played out) in bitcoin.

In reality investors and traders are like parallel lines, their views about bitcoin can never be the same.
we should not be talking about trading because it is very risky to make out something from and the first difference you just gave does not differentiate investors and traders in any way because some trader especially professional traders do have risk management just as investors, as a matter of fact there are some investors that do not have risk management like some traders so it is actually vice versa. However, if i want to differentiate traders from investors what will come to my mind is "Habit" the behavior of trader is very different from that of an investor.

You @SDS11 told @7juju that he should not be talking about comparing trading to investors, and then you went on to compare traders to investors, and you even tried to proclaim that traders have some superior attributes - which is a kind of pumping of the idea of trading.

I was close to deleting your post rather than responding to it, but instead, I decided to respond to it, and let it otherwise stand.

Yeah, this is an investing thread, and there tends to be little to no reason to talk about trading, except how it might relate to investing or the concepts of this thread, which, from my perspective, your post seemed to be lacking in that regard based on your seeming to want to praise investors for their supposed superior risk management skills.... which I consider that kind of an assessment to be somewhat delusional, yet at the same time it is off topic, so I don't really want to invite debate about the topic in this thread. .and yeah, I get a bit resentful to have to respond to topics that I find to be off topic especially when guys also present wrong ideas about trading and/or shitcoining and/or sometimes other topics too.

Your link did not work... so I fixed it.... otherwise I agree with the points that you are making that relate to guys abilities to try to work towards putting themselves into a better category with the passage of time, even if they might have had started without much of anything.

You should have a proper idea about investing in Bitcoin, how you will invest and how to sustain it for a long time, it is enough to follow this strategy. Yes, a new person should not waste his time to know everything about Bitcoin, but he should invest in Bitcoin along with investing.

Bitcoin investment certainly requires a reasonable income, but even then it is very reasonable for us to add some additional strategies such as building an emergency fund.

You are wrong if you believe that building an emergency fund is optional, especially if you are serious about investing in bitcoin and you recognize that bitcoin has a 4-10 year investment timeline or longer.  If you do not have back up funds, there is almost no way that you can have any level of confidence that you would be able to invest in bitcoin for 4-10 years or longer, and instead you would just be gambling, hoping and praying that you do not have any situation in which your income went down and/or your expenses went up to such an extent that you ended up having to dip into your bitcoin at a time that was not completely of your choosing.

Patience isn't going to do you a whole hell of a lot of good if you employ weak cashflow management practices.

Reasonable income meaning something big but this is not correct because having a reasonable doesn't determine one can invest in bitcoin. No matter the income one is earning it can still be invested in Bitcoin.  You only need the amount you can afford to lose to invest in Bitcoin and not a reasonable amount.

You are correct @Sobz to proclaim that the term "reasonable income" is vague, and it is almost meaningless, since what a guy actually needs is discretionary funds, and yeah, the amount that you can afford to lose is a subsection of discretionary funds.

You are correct to suggest that discretionary funds can be generated by either rich people or poor people, since discretionary funds come from executing an ability to have expenses that are lower than your income, and so then you have left over money that can be invested, saved and/or other wise discretionarily spent.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Unfortunately, many newcomers to Bitcoin investing are deterred by the apparent complexity of the process. I've even read comments from people who thought they could only buy a whole Bitcoin, citing "I don't have $80,000." Of course, I immediately told them they were mistaken.
But overall, I consider excellent investors to be those who don't need outside explanations, but rather pursue the truth themselves with their own inquisitive minds. It's as if these people make a contract with themselves to invest time and effort in self-development, and they accept full responsibility, rather than shifting it to those who try to help them by advising them to invest.

Since everything in the world is relative, the expression "a reasonable investment amount" might mean $500 to one person and $50 to another. This is confusing. Just as many things in the world are individual, so too is the investment amount, because each investor is surrounded by hundreds of personal factors, and an outside observer cannot take them all into account. Yes, to some extent, investing is a test of patience and discipline, and not everyone can pass it.
But it is clearly not just for the rich. I am sure that even among beginning investors, there are those who have such strong self-discipline and the ability to calculate capital for calm investing that many wealthy and experienced investors would envy them.
