I think Bitcoin is still doing very well in the market, and we can't deny that fact. People who are looking at the current price as low and failing to buy more will be doing themselves more harm when we imagine what the price may be in the next months and years. Comparing Bitcoin to other assets, we can see clearly that Bitcoin is superior, and for holding value, Bitcoin is better.

FYI, this thread is not about BTC price speculation or which asset is superior to other. As you can see from the title, it's about BTC investment ideas by our great JJG.

The best we can do is a continuous accumulation, perhaps, with the DCA strategy. Provided the a Discretionary income is constantly available, accumulation shouldn't stop. It should be done consistently and HODLing. We are optimistic that it will do better than this. Buy and HODL.

Even when discretionary income is available, sometimes some circumstances may intervene to threat your accumulation. It's normal when it happens and you should not try to force accumulation by all means in those periods because you might be putting the entire plan at risk later. The best thing to do is to make balance to your accumulation either by increasing when you're buoyant and decrease or even pause accumulation when things are tight. Do not buy blindly that you might need to sell later to survive.

Some circumstances like unexpected events you mean? If that’s the case then what you will be needing to tend towards to is your emergency funds to sort out that circumstances which may occur in the process of trying to invest in bitcoin and then pausing the accumulation even when you have a discretionary income that you can use and accumulate bitcoin. As a long term investor with a discretionary income available I don’t see any circumstances which should put you in a situation where you have to pause your regular accumulation of bitcoin when you have the discretionary income available. That’s why it’s advisable to build up an emergency funds for our bitcoin investment while we are accumulating bitcoin so as to be able to tackle any unexpected circumstances. perhaps you failed to build up your emergency funds while you’re accumulating bitcoin to sort out those circumstances or emergency situations.

I think you are right, DCA is a viable strategy for D4LITP investors, as no need to speculate the bottom of the market. The market will at some point go down, and that way, the investors can buy dollars worth of Bitcoins at different levels. But I think also that keeping some more cash ready during dips might be advantageous, too. In any case, I believe that a mix of DCA and buying dips if possible is good for the long run. The major thing is to be consistent and patient.
If one is consistently accumulating Bitcoin, then buying the dip is nothing to talk about because there is no way Bitcoin won't be bought. The most important thing is to adopt a DCA strategy to invest in Bitcoin; it will help one buy Bitcoin regardless of the price. Investors who focus on accumulating Bitcoin consistently buy in every dip, while those who are overly concerned about the dip may ignore some dips, especially when there is an event affecting the market. They may think the price of Bitcoin will dip further just to buy at the bottom, but consistent investors using the DCA strategy don't discriminate in their buying.
DCA strategy is a method that helps an investor maintain investment continuity in any market situation. Those who follow the DCA strategy usually do not make investment decisions based on emotions; rather, they continue to deposit BTC regularly according to their own set plan. In my opinion, if an investor invests a large amount of money at once, he can quickly accumulate a large amount of BTC. However, an investor using DCA can gradually build his portfolio and maintain investment discipline even during market fluctuations. Most importantly, he can focus on long-term goals and manage investments according to his own plan without worrying too much about short-term price changes.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't see the reasoning behind purchasing Bitcoin even if you have some additional income available just because you have that. The reason why you need an emergency fund is because emergencies happen and they happen more often than you were expecting. And no matter how well disciplined an investor is, he might encounter some financial troubles that might lead him to have to change his priorities a little.

Totally agree that keep emergency fund while accumulating Bitcoin investment is a wise idea. But not mingle them with investment fund, keep a conveniently accessible fund.

The second point that you should remember is that the focus of your money should be emphasized on stability and second on the investment schedule.

That long term investors should not be affected by short. Term price moves in all investments. But I think that it still makes sense to review their finances from time to time. Dca can level out the highs and lows. But investors should also take into account adjustments in their income. Expenses and emergency savings. If a person is in a pinch for cash. For instance they might have to postpone buying. And not sell their existing Bitcoins at a loss. Long term investing is not only about riding out. The storms of the market it's also about being able to keep your money in the market without having to sell it when the market is bad.

I agree with you, for those who invest in Bitcoin for the long term, it is more important to monitor the daily market price and pay attention to their financial situation. And if you invest regularly in the DCA method, the impact of price fluctuations can be somewhat managed. However, the investment amount should be such that it is not a problem to invest a small amount from your necessary expenses and the discretionary income that is left after putting it in an emergency fund.
If financial pressure arises, temporarily closing the DCA is not a failure, but sometimes it can be a good decision. Because it is not only how much we are investing to hold our Bitcoin, it is also very important to be financially stable.

As a DCA investor aiming for the long term, why paying attention to the daily market price or monitoring the market as you suggested? Are you a trader who wants to sell immediately? What would you do with such monitoring?, so you could reduce your price of buying if it's declining, or you would sell when it's dumping?, monitoring the market for what exactly? Am just wondering.

As a long term investor, monitoring the market isn't necessary. What is marjoly important is that you are able to figure out what your Discretionary income is at the moment and then do a consistent, regular and continuous DCAing, while HODLing for the long term. And I'm addition, you also ensure that from the same discretionary, you are able to also build your back up funds alongside. That is what is important and not monitoring daily market price as if you are a trader who wants to sell immediately.

If you are monitoring the market, it might affect you emotionally and lead to wrong decisions which can make you regret your actions. Have a bitcoin target and stay focused on reaching your bitcoin target. Look for means to increase your income and the amount you are using to DCA.

The best thing to do is to make balance to your accumulation either by increasing when you're buoyant and decrease or even pause accumulation when things are tight. Do not buy blindly that you might need to sell later to survive.
You can't have discretionary income and be in a situation where you have to pause your investment because discretionary income by definition is money left after the key and pressing issues have been settled.
What you have explained now can be handled by good planning and exactly when the idea of emergency funds was developed. If you have emergency funds set up, when you have challenge that is supposed to make you terminate your accumulation, maybe if you are using the DCA strategy,  then the emergency funds will be activated to take care of that challenge while you continue implement your DCA without stopping.
In this concern I am thinking differently. Just because a person has discretionary income does not guarantee that he will have the same amount of money next month. An investor may invest $200 every month after meeting their essential expenses. But if a family member suddenly gets sick or their income decreases, the previous calculation may no longer be valid. There is also no guarantee that having an emergency fund will solve all kinds of financial problems. You should understand that the main purpose of an emergency fund is to reduce financial stress in unexpected situations. But having that fund does not mean that someone will have to buy the same amount of Bitcoin in any situation. Considering your situation, it is reasonable to reduce the amount of investment, stop for a few weeks, or change the plan according to the new income estimate.

When the price of Bitcoin is relatively low it is better to buy more but waiting for the bears is not a good strategy. You need to know that Bitcoin is an asset to invest in now, if you waste time by waiting, you may regret this action in the future. Yet the best way is to accumulate Bitcoin regularly in the DCA method, you must pay attention to this. You know that at the end of the week your discretionary income is very small maybe $50-$100 and in that case it would be wise to start Bitcoin because instead of spending/wasting money badly accumulate Bitcoin for the future.
You can always buy more bitcoin whenever you have a discretionary income, you don’t have to wait for for the price of bitcoin to be low before you can buy bitcoin, however you speak like someone who would be more interested in buying the dip, well you can alway take opportunity of buying more bitcoin anytime you have that discretionary money available, what if the dip comes and you don’t have money to buy more like you have emphasized what then would you do, saying that waiting for the bear isn’t good and you still went ahead to say that people should buy more when the price is low, I would let you know that you can alway buy bitcoin whenever you have money using the DCA method would be more convenient.

I agree with you, for those who invest in Bitcoin for the long term, it is more important to monitor the daily market price and pay attention to their financial situation.

Investors don't pay attention to daily market price of movement, only traders do that. So you don't have to do that or even encourage it if you really want to invest and HODL your coins for long.

Investors rather concentrate on figuring out there discretionary income and consistently and continually buy Bitcoin using the DCA strategy, where they are able to buy just as they can afford weekly or monthly and not minding the market volatility. Monitoring the market will only delay and waste your time from buying regularly because you might be moved by the decline and refuse to buy regularly. We should concentrate on building our portfolio rather than paying attention to market changes.

Such kind of things have phycological effects but some investors don't understand that, the market fluctuate up and downwards and watching the market fluctuate could trigger emotions sometimes fear or even greed and make the investor deviate from the target that requires holding longer.

Investors are not traders and should avoid doing things that could make them unintentionally ruin the investment, the goal is to hold for many years so what's the point of constantly monitoring the market when the investor should be focused on accumulation, cause that's the best way to achieve the target.

No, I do not agree with this. You are doing DCA you are not focusing on just buying more you also target when the price is at your advantage (dip) because the amount you use to buy let's say 00234 BTC at 30k will not be the amount you get 00234 BTC when the price is at 15k. You already made up your mind for long term when you decided to focus on DCA method so if the market price drops or increases there is no way you will not notice unless you are not being consistent with your DCA.

If you determination is to do the DCA for 10 years, your focus should be on accumulating more bitcoin till then the price will not change your mind if your are serious with your goals in life and I believe when there is dip as a DCA investor you can decide to increase your purchase because it gives you more advantage to buy more with the amount you spend then the price was above the current price that you met it at the moment you are buying.

You are absolutely right, why would you need to monitor your account on a daily basis when what you Should be worried about is how to get more discretionary income and accumulate more. Monitoring your account on a constant basis is a thing of a trader, and if an investor decides to keep monitoring there is a tendency that he will get emotionally affected and make bad decisions about his holdings.

A long term investor, using the DCA to accumulate will even barley have time to keep constantly checking his holdings, it more about accumulating more rather than wasting time and checking your holding. So long you have a target already, checking the market makes no sense.

For the long term, for example, 10 years, I think it's best to do DCA once a month, or 480 purchases over 10 years.

During the purchase period, if we continue executing every month, we save on execution fees, and withdrawal fees for personal wallets are cheaper because we withdraw funds once a month.
Depending on how we plan our investments, they can run smoothly for up to 10 years.

A long term investor does not have any business with monitoring the daily market, I'm still wondering why you are suggesting that a long term investors should keep a close eye on the market. If  long term investors should engage themselves into monitoring the daily market they might start developing the mindset of traders, instead of holding their bitcoin for Long term investment they might be forced to sell especially when they figure out that they are in profit.

so it is very wrong for a Long term investor to engage him or herself into monitoring the market, what every long term investor should do is to maintain the ongoing buying of bitcoin until they get to their investment target and / or the status of overaccumulation after that they can start monitoring the market to know when they are in profit. But an investor who have not achieve his or her investment target or have not gotten to the status of overaccumulation is not meant to monitor the market because is of no use unless they want to become traders.

It is a wrong idea for anyone to target the price of Bitcoin before start buying, whether someone is using the DCA method to accumulate or not. In fact, if you say someone using the DCA method for accumulation can still target the price of Bitcoin before buying, what is the point of using the DCA method in the first place? Because the DCA method  have already give period interver which either weekly or monthly.and advantage of using the DCA method is that it gives investors the opportunity to buy at different price levels, since the price of Bitcoin is unpredictable. So anyone trying to wait for a dip may just end up wasting an opportunity because it is very possible that the price level they are targeting may never come even the price drop and the even possible price of Bitcoin may just keep increasing.

Cashflow management is a kind of basic skill that a lot of people learn, practice, repeatedly practice, make mistakes and hopefully learn from their mistakes (and hopefully their mistakes are not so BIG that they end up ruining themselves.  The fact of the matter is that many normal purposefully strive to be sufficiently conservative in their finances so that they do not ruin themselves and that they always have enough money to cover their basic expenses.. and sure sometimes they might have to struggle to make sure that they don't run out of money.. so then if they invest (including investing in bitcoin), that investment money gets set aside (not to be spent for 4-10 years or longer), and it can be quite challenging to adapt to having money on the side (that could be accessed) that is purposefully being taken out of current availability in order to be held for a time in the future that may or may not end up playing out as expected.
People sometimes overlook this, and any investment also requires some changes based on how we relate to money, especially bitcoin accumulators they need to understand that when they are try to invest into bitcoin, they should also understand how to manage their money properly, so that it doesn’t affect their present financial situation. Because some folks fine it very difficult to put their funds away for years. because they only think about what money can do for them today, especially when things that they don’t expect happen. I think bitcoin accumulators should understand that buying consistently is one thing, but being financial comfortable to leave your bitcoin investment is another thing entirely. At least we should be able to take care of our basic needs while gradually building something for tomorrow.

As an investor it may not be everytime, weeks or months that there will be available discretionary income, when things are rough or tight an investor can decide to pause and continue their bitcoin accumulation when they have any available discretionary income, i believe this will be more better than to sell or use money that isn't their discretionary income to accumulate bitcoin, but if an investor has there discretionary income available i don't know why they should pause their bitcoin accumulation when they have their discretionary income to buy bitcoin with.
You’re right not everyone time the discretionary income will be available because they will a be condition that some investors will find themselves they feel like to touch money that is not from their discretionary fund, and that’s anyone who want to be successful person on their investment need to have a better background planning; so that even when the things get rough in process of their accumulation of bitcoins they don’t need to use the funds that is not from their discretionary income or temper their investments.

Of course, this is the reason why financial planning is very important for any before investing in Bitcoin. Bitcoin investment should not be something that anyone would put themselves under any pressure because of investment. Emergency funds are very important, we need to make sure that we settle other expenses, and invest the rest of the money that we can afford to leave for long term. We don’t need to borrow money because we want to invest in Bitcoin, Bitcoin investment is something we can build gradually with the little we have, we don’t need to touch the money we might need anytime soon.

However, we need to be patience and discipline to be successful in our investment. Because success doesn’t happen overnight, we must learn to control our emotions, so we don’t end up making wrong decisions. As long as we keep investing without considering the market, I believe that we are building a strong future.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to "non-custodial"

In recent times, I had been feeling some redundancy and repetition regarding my attempts to share some of my ideas about BTC and BTC portfolio management and various factors that people need to attempt to account for in their considerations about bitcoin.

I created this as a self-moderated thread in order for me to exercise some discretion in terms of removing possible shitcoin, trolling or shilling posts above and beyond what forum moderators might consider, and likely I am not going to be too inclined to delete posts even if they are critical of my ideas.. but we will see where the post substance goes or if there is any participation beyond just me.

I thought that the creation of this thread could be helpful for me to have some of the ideas in one place and potentially allow me to lessen some of my needs to repeat ideas… whether in the form of various PMs or in various threads that I am presented with seemingly repetitive ideas..

Maybe in the end, the creation and intended maintenance of this thread will not lessen repetition of my posts regarding ideas outlined herein..? time will tell.

Of course, for at least an initial period, I will need to flesh out some of the first few posts in a kind of work-in-progress way.

I am considering categories of:
1)   This post:  Introduction (Opening Post 1):
2)   Opening Post 2: Getting started – assessing personal financial situation (in relation to ability to invest in bitcoin)
3)   Opening Post 3: Accumulation, maintenance, liquidation (or creation of legacy) of BTC
                    3) a) -  Outside related thread Ideas of sustainable withdrawal
4)   Opening Post 4:  Attempts at BTC price predictions
5)   Opening Post 5:  Other considerations / resources, bitcoin podcasts, threads of other forum members or my other threads

I am also hoping that some of my ideas and outlining of intended investment bitcoin ideas will be helpful to other persons besides just me and maybe helpful for institutions and/or governments too.

Anyone have any suggestions, questions or similar ideas that they would like to share in this thread?  Please do.

I am also open to attempts to critique the various ideas or investment frameworks, but at my discretion I may well end up deleting posts that I determine to devolve too much into personal attacks (without seeming to provide adequate substance), shitcoin pumpening, bitcoin naysaying (that largely appears to me to be backhanded ways to shill some kind of a shitcoin) trolling or shilling.

I would like to NOT delete many if any posts, but let’s see how it goes (especially since we are on the interwebs and cannot always know beforehand whether discussions will get too much derailed)?

I completely understand. I also believe we should give discussions room to develop naturally rather than rush to delete posts. Of course, some conversations may go off track, especially online, but we can handle those situations as they arise and keep things respectful and constructive. Let's see how it goes.

You provided an example of exactly the kind of waste of time and lack of substance post that merely quotes the OP, really fails to engage in any meaningful way and deserves being deleted.

For the long term, for example, 10 years, I think it's best to do DCA once a month, or 480 purchases over 10 years.

I tend to recommend trying to invest weekly, which would be 52 per year and 520 over 10 years.

During the purchase period, if we continue executing every month, we save on execution fees, and withdrawal fees for personal wallets are cheaper because we withdraw funds once a month.

Weekly keeps guys more active and they do not necessarily have to pay more fees merely because they are buying weekly rather than monthly.

Depending on how we plan our investments, they can run smoothly for up to 10 years.

Yes.  It can take a long time to accumulate a decent bitcoin stash and to also strengthen and build up other wealth such as back up funds... 4-10 years or longer is not unreasonable.  There is no need to limit investing only to 10 years... because it would seem a bit strange if a guy had been in vesting in bitcoin for 10 years, and let's say 10% of his income, and then after 10 years, maybe he had invested only 1 year of his income, and it may or may not be the case that his investment had appreciated enough in order to change his strategy away from continuing to buy or even just HODLing for longer.

1) Self-Custody is a right.  Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted."  2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.  3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

If you can afford to buy Bitcoin with a large sum of money, you can but we give more importance to the DCA method for building a long term Bitcoin portfolio. Wealthy individuals can afford to do a lump sum. It is convenient for average or poor investors to accumulate Bitcoin in the DCA method. Many do not have the available fund or do not want to take risks because there is no way to predict which way the market will go. By using discretionary income, you can accumulate Bitcoin without forcing your financial capacity. Those wealthy investors can accumulate Bitcoin using any method they want. DCA method is the easiest for a new investor who is still poor and has a decent amount of financial capacity.

DCA method is the easiest for a new investor who is still poor and has a decent amount of financial capacity.

DCA is not just for poor or new investors Wealthy investors can also follow this method to build a long term Bitcoin portfolio. Even if someone can afford to invest a large sum of money if he doesn't have enough Bitcoin accumulated I would recommend him to continue DCA regularly. Because there is no need to invest a large amount of money or the entire amount at the beginning of the investment. The key here is to gradually increase your Bitcoin amount according to your plan.

As you said many don't have enough money to invest together and many don't want to take risks because it's impossible to predict which direction the market will go. But one of the advantages of following the DCA method is that there is no need to predict the future direction of the market every time. Bitcoin can be bought periodically according to one's ability. The most important thing in this case is that the investment money should come from own discretionary funds.

I totally agree with using your discretionary income to accumulate Bitcoin without straining your financial ability. The major advantage of DCA is that the amount of investment can be determined in accordance with one's income and cash flow. If the surplus money is high in any month the amount of investment can be increased  and if it is low in any month it can be reduced. As a result it is possible to create a Bitcoin portfolio regularly without waiting for a certain large sum of money to be deposited.

DCA method is one of the easiest and most practical ways to deposit Bitcoin for those who do not have a large lump sum of money, but have the discretionary funds to invest a fixed amount every week or month. But the benefits of this method are not limited only to them. Whether the investment is small or large DCA can be useful for both rich and poor investors if they have a plan to consistently accumulate Bitcoins according to their financial situation.

Are you telling me that you don’t know what the bitcoin price is currently as an investor? or you don’t  just stay sometimes out of curiosity, and  check the price of bitcoin? Both investors and traders can check on bitcoin daily prices. The only difference is that investors don’t allow the market price to detect for them when to buy and when not to buy bitcoin. Traders are the ones that allow the market prices detect when they are to buy and when not to buy.

Majority of us here that are into long term investment know the current prices of bitcoin on daily basis. Some of us have apps that notify us about bitcoin prices on daily basis. You don’t need to glue your eyes on the market charts to know the price of bitcoin. Knowing bitcoin daily prices, is different from relying on the daily prices movement to make investments decision.
