Using a MicroSD card from ColdCard for wallet address. Getting this error now, any ideas?

I downloaded 4.2 on Friday and checked against GPG to make sure I had an authentic download.

It worked on Friday after installing but tried to load wallet yesterday and this was the message:

Error

Cannot load wallet (2):
WalletFileException ('This version of Electrum is too old to open this wallet.
\n(highest supported storage version:41,version of this file:44')

Looks like you created the wallet with some other installation.

Are you running the stand alone/portable executable? Do you have multiple .executable files with different versions.?

you might be running an old version.

i would just unistall all old files and download thw newer version here:
https://electrum.org/#download

you might want to back up your wallet file. it is probably here:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\roaming\Electrum\wallets

i found a similar discussion from 2019 which the user solved the issue with a new installation. you may want to check it

After you have try the above advise since you downloaded the latest 4.2. I will advise you to integrate the "Appimage" latest version of the electrum but you need to also verify it just like you did with the electrum wallet you downloaded on Friday.
This guide should help you with the Electrum tails .

The error only appears if you recently upgraded your wallet to the latest version and then try to open the wallet with a lower version.

To confirm if you are using the latest version of Electrum right-click the Electrum shortcut icon>properties then go to shortcut it looks like this below

You should see the current version under the target like the image above it shows electrum-4.1.5.exe since you upgrade your wallet to v4.2.0 it should show electrum-4.2.0.exe

If it appears lower than v4.2.0 it means you installed or use an executable or portable version not the windows installer version like bitmover said. So you must re-download and make sure that you downloaded the Windows installer.

It worked on Friday after installing but tried to load wallet yesterday and this was the message:
Sometimes, this happens when you tried to install the updated version while the older version is still running that'll make the next session use the outdated version.
If that's the case, then just reinstall 4.2 and this time, close every running Electrum instance.

Otherwise, you may still be using the shortcut to the older version as mentioned by others.

Thanks for everyone's help!  I had a shortcut to the older version on my desktop that I was trying to use.
Now using 4.2 shortcut and everything is great. I'm new to using hardware wallets (but I guess that's obvious - LOL).

I also had a similar problem a month or two ago ....and I have been using Electrum for years, so do not feel bad. When you are in the moment, you tend to rush things and the smaller things are missed. I recommend that you delete the older "install" files that you downloaded and just keep the latest one. (Some of my friends kept all previous install files and accidentally re-installed older versions of the wallet, when they struggled with an error)

You can now close this thread, because your problem have been solved.  Wink  Thank you for posting this..... it will serve as a solution for other people struggling with the same thing.  Wink
