Watching Our Kids From Something That Could Dangerous To Them

The problem with parenting is that you can't have one correct answer for every child and parent. Like doing X could work for me, and may not work for you but doing Y could work for you but not for me. Each parent is different, each child is different and you would have to be approaching them differently. A kid I raise may not be similar characteristics as a child you raise, and I would have to do one thing to keep them off from gambling all they have (if they want to gamble small amounts I would be fine with it since I do that too) but you would have to do something else. It is never just one correct answer for all parents to use for their children hence we will never get any responses that work for all of us.

We must teach our children the value of time, money and effort. Otherwise they can fall into wrong path easily and it might be damage their next 5-10-15 and even their life. Gambling is required some kind of patience and intelligence skills luck isnt enough only.

I am not sure about other community - but in our community parents have a  very strict  check on their kids. Even if kids play adult games they do it in hidden.
But replying to OP - I think the mobile phone and internet time should be controlled. Giving kids freedom of everything is inviting trouble!

I also have a strict parents and even my relatives, they don’t let their Children to expose much of their time on their mobile phones which I think is really good, I’m also living on a country where we don’t tolerate much of this thing but sometimes, things are really uncontrolled by the parents. Proper guidance is the key here, if they get exposed on gambling that could be a big trouble for the whole family.

Just avoid them on things which you do seem that would really potentially affect their future.It might not really be that perfect since we cant monitor them 24/7 and now that we are on a digital age where
everything could easily be accessed out which means that they are really that prone into different things not only on gambling but also in pornography which is something not that really
good to see if our kids do really make out some engagement like that.

As parents, keeping them under tight control can be both beneficial and harmful. Of course, it is impossible to keep them 7/24 under control. Neither they nor we are robots. That's why they needs our guidance to keep forwarding on right path. If we give them the right clue, they can come to the right conclusion by themselves.

All parents experience this, we are living in an extraordinary time, very much different from what we've had in our youth, children nowadays are technology-driven and have a big drive for something new online.
They will eventually find these games that need money for upgrades that will eventually lead them to gamble and that is where we should keep an eye, parents need to keep their eye on what their children are doing online they have should full control over their child's behavior.

Even keeping an eye on kids doesn't keep them away from the game, because now technology has become so easy that you can't stop them if they want to play. I have no children but I have a teenage brother whom I could not keep away from playing online games despite my best efforts, now he is so addicted to games that he is busy with games only day and night. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. However, playing online games in this way can also gamble.

Try to search for parenting control in your internet provider, you can set a limit on when they will be connected to the internet without knowing them, and maybe they will think that your internet provider has a trouble because they can't able to connect.

There might be some harmful effect specially if your kids do find out and realize that you are that strict then they would most likely turns out to be rebellious but well this do really depend on your kids
behavior and attitude which is something that really very random thats why its better to have some guidance on things not only basing up on this matter but also in other aspects as well.
Its better to see them grow and guide them on the right path even though it might not be perfect but we are giving our very best.

The internet is a dangerous venue for your children it's a fact and parents should not take the internet for granted, it's the biggest and best information highway but it's not confined to good things but bad stuff too, the children only need to type the keywords correctly and voila, they are there in a few seconds, Porn sites, gambling sites and hates stuff are just keywords away and if left on their own they might fall to these traps.

Some time ago I visited my friend's house. We talked about many things because we had not seen each other for a long time. Besides us telling stories, he accompanied his son, who was already a teenager. His son is playing games on his cell phone and I got a glimpse of what games he played and he seems to be playing games he shouldn't be playing.

Then I asked my best friend how she watched her grown children. He replied that his children were able to choose what was good and bad for them and he just needed to say that playing games are okay as long as he doesn't lose track of time.

Then I asked again if the kids installed games they weren't supposed to play (but I didn't say the kids were playing those games). She replied that she sometimes checks her children's cell phones and asks what they are playing and that a parent should ask their child.

From here, I then asked myself, is that what we should do for our children, giving them the freedom to install whatever they want. Then there is another thing that sticks in my mind: if they want to buy something in the game because this type of game allows players to get rare items at low prices. They can ask for the money from their parents to buy that item.

Then, I also thought if this could cause symptoms of addiction to continue playing the game and later it could be accidentally, they see adult content such as pornography or gambling or others easily. The role of parents who give freedom to their children in using cellphones does not seem to be felt by those who are starting to grow up. I see that a teenager has started to be equipped with a smartphone.

It is the responsibility of the parents to know what their kids are doing doing online. They should monitor their internet activity. Yes, they can give them freedom to do what they what and choose what they desire, but that doesn't mean the parents shouldn't stop them from doing something wrong.
Giving freedom doesn't mean the parents should no longer keep an eye on their children. It means they can let their children do whatever they want, but if they do something wrong, the parents should come forward, stop them and explain it to them why it is wrong.

True. It isn't that difficult anymore for parents to restrict various types of content thanks to specific filters provided by popular apps on different devices.

For example, Chrome provides a safe search filter which helps hide certain content from kids below a certain age. Another example is Netflix which allows you to create a kids specific profile where they can only access safe content.

Many parents don't restrict their kids at all which leads to some of them getting spoiled in various ways sadly.

I've seen this situation but it was from a different kid in our neighborhood but I don't want to meddle since that parent's child was somehow the ungrateful ones, they don't want to get smothered over help from others.

I think there is a gadget that filters out this kind of things but from what I know they are expensive and often requires technical skills but it was helpful. Parents in my neighborhood are kinda outdated in this but if somehow it will be a fad here I guess they'll adopt that easily.

Although I don't have the experience of @OP, I accidentally even saw young people under 18 playing traditional cards but with money.
I couldn't do anything because I didn't know them and I didn't live in their neighbourhood because I was just passing through that street.
It was very sad to see because children their age were already familiar with gambling and were even directly involved in gambling.

In my opinion, teenage children should not be given the phone for a fixed time. Because phone addiction makes their studies, then eating and drinking irregular. As a result, their future will ruin. Her mindset on growing her children is not bad. It is good to allow her children to figure out what's good and bad for them, of course they have to be in the right age for that to be applicable, if not, then proper guidance is necessary especially if the games you were pertaining to is about gambling. However, even if your children plays gambling like poker for free without any money involve means that your children would be a gambler in the future.

A parent should only warn his children about dangerous games such gambling because it is addicting, because if you raise your children right, they will always remember the warnings you said to them.

Teenage is an important time for the physical and emotional development of a children.  So by the name of freedom in this age they should not be allowed to do whatever they want.  It's okay to give them phones, but if they are not monitored, they are more likely to be harmed in the current situation.  As they can fall into the addiction of the game then they can fall into the addiction of pornography, gambling is not the subject.  In order to protect them, they should not be allowed to do whatever they want in the name of freedom.

Are you referring to gambling apps or adult games? I think there are some applications where you can keep track of what the device can download or not and from that app you can connect it to the main device than has an access to it in that way even if you don't have your children's device you can keep track his activity and his downloads as a responsible parent you should know this one.

Saying them don't install games or spend any money to buy in app purchases won't help at all because stopping will make them to be more addictive towards the thing so what you can actually do is to teach your kids about the importance of money even though its just a paper how hard we have to work to get them then they will realize that where money should be spend and where it shouldn't be.

It will just increase their curiosity if we will warn them to not open those apps and for sure they will seek some time to open this and try on why their parents disallow them to play such games. So I guess its good to educate them first and tell them the flaws also the possible problems they might encounter if they play then get addicted with those things. But we have to. Nowadays, we have to be twice or even thrice careful with what our kids do cause Internet is both a place where you can learn something or a place where danger accompanies you all you way you browse. My kids, one 10+ and others below 10, they are under my total internet control and I don't think I will let them use any social media until they are 18. Giving them the right clue is a good idea, but what I think is that they may be influenced by somebody else and you will not even know that.

But our education system is allowing the kids to learn about the money and addiction even adults don't have a proper knowledge and parents also don't have time to monitor their kids 24/7.

You're right making changes in the early stages of kids education system can save lot of people but no government is giving attention to such things because they've lot of serious problems to look into.

controlling your child's smartphone today is the duty of parents, children can't yet distinguish between good and bad so they think it's something their parents don't forbid as long as their parents know it, even though it's a bad thing, it can be tolerated. The child's future will be ruined when he finds out about gambling and pornography when they are minors.

I agree - there is a dire need to balance between the phone and life balance. But kids are adamant that they all need a smart phone.
My nephew who is 2 cries like crazy if someone takes the phone from his hand. But than again its important and kids should be kept away from the phone. It's a need of the time.
