There is no doubt that Rey Vargas will be the favorite of this fight in the eyes of the bookmakers. Above all, he has much more experience than Mark Magsayo. I'm sure the odds for Magsayo will be very low, so if someone likes the risk and believes in the surprises then can bet on him, but in my opinion result of this fight is quite predictable.

Let us not forget the boxer's body's wear and tear part.  More boxing fight means more damage done to the body.  Aside from that considering the age, we might say that Vargas somehow passed his prime, unless he is really good at taking care of his health.  24 fights and 35 fights, we can say both fighters are experienced with slightly Magsayo leading on the KO percentage.  Looking at this point of the statistics, I disagree that Magsayo's odds of winning are very low.  Vargas might have higher odds but I do think that gap is somehow negligible. But well, we can agree to disagree but I am sure we will know when the fight has its conclusion.  Wink
Yep, I'm not really sure what Magsayo become the underdog. But in any case this is a great opportunity for him. And I think Magsayo is not yet hitting his prime, or maybe he was about to hit it. So he is very dangerous as compare to Vargas who have bee in many fights already and maybe the wear and tear are going to show in his body against Vargas. And it's good if the betting public is going for Vargas, at least we can beat for Magsayo and have a good win if ever we are all correct.

Magsayo steps up to the ring and faces the undefeated boxer with a record of 35 wins with 22 KOs in his career it's a big fight for magsayo even though they are both undefeated Magsayo has a chance of losing if he will not practicing hard and improve his skills cause we all know that Vargas is very tough man that can carry all the punches by his opponent and while has strategic move he can adjust his style during the fight .
Both have a chance to win and have a loss, and yes Magsayo is on a big risk here and Vargas looks more aggressive compare to Magsayo, well he have to train well and do everything to condition his mind and body, maybe Magsayo can still have a good chance here. Its hard to predict on both boxer and usually challenger are more prepared, there’s still plenty of time to prepare both of them will surely do their best.

I'm not really familiar with this new guy but the way I see how he move in the ring definitely gonna make a chance for him to win and I think if someone new like Rey Vargas in a weight might make a difference compared to those who got used to the weight level. Although, we don't know what will happen to them inside the ring maybe it will depend on their training and who's the trainor.

And yes, just like what you said, both have a chance to win here since everyone can't decide which side would win so everything is just a pure speculation at the moment.

I thought that Vargas is the odds favorite? So it's not a 50/50 fight obviously. Trainers are big part of the equation because they are going to honed the fighters to be a perfect boxer in fight now.

Nevertheless if you are not familiar with at least one of them, (and I think majority here knows Magsayo since he is one of the torch bearer for the Philippines since the retirement of Manny P.), then I would say that you don't put any bet on this fight, just saying.

Vargas is fast and has power in both hands they have the same style but since Magsayo is the champion here, Vargas will be the aggressor trying to take the belt from the champion, Magsayo should train hard this Vargas is very dangerous I've seen highlights of his past fights on Youtube and he should not be taken lightly, I remember Eric Morales in his style of fighting loves to throw a lot of jabs to set up the straight, Magsayo could be in big trouble in this fight.

I guess that's what Filipino wanted to be, a underdog and then show the world what they can do, LOL.

We might not like how Magsayo won against Russell because the latter in injured, but that is still a win for Magsayo. On the contrary, I don't think that this is going to be a hard fought match for Magsayo, I will be betting for him if he will be the underdog in this fight.

Yeah! it's still a win for him and let's hope that if he ever wins this upcoming fight, he will gonna show different skills that will gonna make the audience remember how he wins it. As we all know, he is not that known in the US yet because he hasn't shown more fights that we have witnessed in the Pacquiao era, though it's hard to copy how Pacquiao's boxing journey was in the USA, Magsayo needs to work hard to create his legacy as well while he still has a chance because an opportunity like this has not been given to the other Pilipino boxers who has some real boxing skills until they retired.

They have seen Magsayo in the Russell fight, but definitely the US audience is not that impressed because again, Russell is hurt and can't fight 100%. But now this is a great opportunity for Mark to let the US audience that he is a good boxer and should be given respect in the ring specially if he can knock out Vargas in this fight. And then maybe he can carved his own name in the US soil after this fight.

Mark Magsayo's fight with Gary Russell Jr. was a splendid fight, maybe they are really pushing Mark Magsayo to stardom just like Manny Pacquiao, The Flash Donaire, and John Riel Casimero so much and with his current opponent now Rey Vargas mostly had the physical advantage I really think the younger Magsayo will come up victorious here because I think he surely had that Gary Russell Jr, fight even though winning it with a Decision it is a Majority Decision, I really think that Rey Vargas could surely put a decent fight with Magsayo having an undefeated record truly is a remarkable trait but I guess the younger Magsayo even though without any physical advantage sure still have the style and mentality to win the fight, and sometimes their age can have sure have some impact on this, and Mark Magsayo is undated as well this could be his drive-in not letting anyone to tainted that, and as a Filipino I will support fellow countrymen,

I don't believe this will happen, that's a good ambition but the way how Magsayo fought, he doesn't have the quality of Manny Pacman, and actually, there's no active boxer now IMO that would reach the same success as Manny had. The closest is for me is Donaire only.

Nothing can reach the achievement of Manny Pacman, becoming an 8th-time division champion is no joke, not even the popular boxer can achieve that soon. Filipino boxers are good, Magsayo is good but he is not as good as Manny Pacman, we have to accept the reality, though let's still give him a chance to prove himself and maybe he'll go up in weight someday and he'll achieve, who knows, but I doubt.

Of course, Pacman is a significant figure in the world of boxing, but this is already in the past. Now is a new time and new legends are appearing, which at the moment may be at the initial stages, but over time, with the growth of skill and experience, they can overshadow the successes of even the famous Manny. Also, I think that boxers from different eras should not be compared. We will never know who is the best until we see a fight between boxers. It is also important at what stage of a career these careers meet. You must remember how long Mayweather avoided the fight with Pacman when Manny was at the peak of his form and how the fight ended when they did meet, but Pacman had already lost his power by that moment.

As for Mark Magsayo and Rey Vargas, I can say that with each fight they gain experience and it is possible that over time, one of them will become known as Manny Pacquiao.

It's not just the achievement that Manny have the edge over the current Filipino pro boxers , but with the qualities and talent as well.
Manny is a different kind of fighter, not even Donaire is close to him.
I have never seen a boxer who becomes stronger and stronger on the later rounds. Manny has this qualities that his punches became stronger even in the later round and his stamina is just extraordinary. Those were during his prime of course.
Magsayo on the other is a good boxer but not as close as good as Manny.

Indeed, not so close because Manny is special and fought world-class boxers during his time. Also, every time he wins, there's no doubt that he win the fight, unlike Magsayo where some people doubted his win, so that's a big difference. It's not too late for him, he has to have an impressive win, a KO will certainly help and he should dominate the fight, not a lucky punch that will put his opponent to sleep.

Yes you are right and every boxer has a chance of winning if they trained harder and make a defensive move with the combination of a good offenses but in this fight this is a big challenge or fight for magsayo cause when you look at varfad previous match then you can say that he is not an easy to defeat cause he is tough and smart fighter for magsayo trained hard will lead him to victory

I surely believe in the Filipino fighting spirit, but I never underestimated the speed and advantage of the Challenger Rey Vargas, surely he got the Height, reach, experience, and winning rate as "Mark Magnifico Magsayo" but I have never underestimated who is Rey Vargas is, and like I have said I truly believe in the Filipino boxer's heart to pursue in times of difficulty, Magsayo has that never say die attitude, and this fight will surely determine Magsayo and Vargas punching strength on whoever has that punching power and if who's fighter had the solid defense, and I got to admit Rey Vargas has that knowledge on calculating the distance pressure his opponent but it has a weakness that Mark Magsayo needs to exposed, he may not have the success like Manny or Donaire have but I am not comparing them to have equal success like those two, but Magsayo is a legit fighter to look forward to,

Like you said let's give him a chance, I surely give him credit for reaching what he attain now, but I think this is the beginning for this Filipino fighter, if he loses in this fight then make it a lesson to learn in his future fight and give him a chance for a rematch, I never saying and underestimating his opponent I am just saying to give him chance to prove himself, we can not see the future and if we are just basing our speculation in each fighters stats record then Rey Vargas surely has the edge against Magsayo, but Mark Magsayo is a determined boxer that is ready to learn,

Magsayo on the other is a good boxer but not as close as good as Manny.

Aside from speed, and punching power, Manny's reflexes are great, if you look at his slow motion video against Mayweather, you can see how he blocked/evaded most of Floyd's punches.  Aside from that, his punches come from lots of angles even with his opponent covering up, he can manage to make his punches passes those defenses and connect because of how he angles his punches.  And Magsayo is very far from doing that.

Rey Vargas mostly had the physical advantage
I disagree, I think Magsayo being the heavier boxer has the physical advantage.  Vargas has the reach advantage

I guess the younger Magsayo even though without any physical advantage
Huh Huh Huh

As for Mark Magsayo and Rey Vargas, I can say that with each fight they gain experience and it is possible that over time, one of them will become known as Manny Pacquiao.

I highly disagree, Vargas at his age is about to retire in about 5 to 6 years gaining  5 titles in 5 higher divisions within that span of time is highly impossible.  Magsayo on the other hand even with his young age, considering the weight division:

minimumweight, 105 pounds (48 kg)
light flyweight, 108 pounds (49 kg)
flyweight, 112 pounds (51 kg)
super flyweight, 115 pounds (52 kg)
bantamweight, 118 pounds (53.5 kg)
super bantamweight, 122 pounds (55 kg)
featherweight, 126 pounds (57 kg) Magsayo's current weight division
super featherweight, 130 pounds (59 kg)
lightweight, 135 pounds (61 kg)
super lightweight, 140 pounds (63.5 kg)
welterweight, 147 pounds (67 kg)
super welterweight, 154 pounds (70 kg)
middleweight, 160 pounds (72.5 kg)
super middleweight, 168 pounds (76 kg)
light heavyweight, 175 pounds (79 kg)
cruiserweight, 200 pounds (91 kg)
heavyweight, unlimited
ref: https://www.britannica.com/sports/boxing/Weight-divisions

I don't think Magsayo will gain each titles of the next 7 upper-weight division.

Mark Magsayo's fight with Gary Russell Jr. was a splendid fight, maybe they are really pushing Mark Magsayo to stardom just like Manny Pacquiao, .....

I don't believe this will happen, that's a good ambition but the way how Magsayo fought, he doesn't have the quality of Manny Pacman, and actually, there's no active boxer now IMO that would reach the same success as Manny had. The closest is for me is Donaire only.

He is a legit fighter because he is currently the champion, however, he still needs to improve because his wins are not too impressive and for him to gain the respect of the boxing community, he has to win convincingly. Well, winning by KO is pretty convincing, therefore he has to go with a KO win against Vargas.

Rey Vargas is the underdog, but I believe that this underdog is going to give Magsayo a problem, I'd love to be wrong though.

If we are not convinced that Magsayo will win, we are always free to bet on his opponent.

If anyone knows the betting odds, please share it here.
I search on my favorite bookie, I still cannot find the betting odds of this fight, but I believe that Magsayo will be the heavy favorite here.

Mark Magsayo's fight with Gary Russell Jr. was a splendid fight, maybe they are really pushing Mark Magsayo to stardom just like Manny Pacquiao, The Flash Donaire, and John Riel Casimero so much and with his current opponent now Rey Vargas mostly had the physical advantage I really think the younger Magsayo will come up victorious here because I think he surely had that Gary Russell Jr, fight even though winning it with a Decision it is a Majority Decision, I really think that Rey Vargas could surely put a decent fight with Magsayo having an undefeated record truly is a remarkable trait but I guess the younger Magsayo even though without any physical advantage sure still have the style and mentality to win the fight, and sometimes their age can have sure have some impact on this, and Mark Magsayo is undated as well this could be his drive-in not letting anyone to tainted that, and as a Filipino I will support fellow countrymen,
Lot's of people really compares Magsayo to the top Filipino boxer which I don't doubt at all because Magsayo is indeed a great boxer as well and he already prove his worth on many ways, his last match is a good one because he won and we should stick to that and don't expect that much. With regards to Vargas, he's a great contender as well and Magsayo should not be complacent because Vargas has a very killer instinct, he can explode as well and this match is really exciting.

Yeah, he won on his last match but people will remember that he is like fighting a one-handed fighter since his opponent injures his one hand in that fight, and the fact that he could not dominate or KO his opponent, that cast some doubts if he really is a real deal.

Why compare Magsayo to Pacquiao? Of course, he is different. Is Magsayo not allowed to create his own path and journey? Why there's need of comparing him to Pacquiao in terms of achievements? Let's not discuss it here as that's not even the topic.

Pacquiao is different, Donaire is different, Magsayo is different and every PH boxers have their own chapter. No room for comparing here.

Back to topic, are odds already out? While doing backread, why Magsayo, the Champions, seems like the underdog here just because others are not satisfied with his fight against Russel Jr. Is that the basis now of being an underdog, or bookies already released the odds?
