Hello Bitcointalk community, hope all is well

I recently started a small online business. I accept PayPal and Crypto payments but so far all of my customers have chosen PayPal over crypto.
Every time that I've offered Bitcoin as the only payment method available I've ended up losing the customer.

Is this normal or am I doing it wrong? How can I accept crypto payments without sounding like a scammer?

Thanks in advance

You are not doing anything wrong. Why only bitcoin payment when you know your customers prefer fiat, just accept both fiat and bitcoin. As easy as that. But I think this should be what you should likely know.

Depends on the niche and the audience. If you sell computers, gadgets, other tools, web services etc., then it's reasonable to have customers willing to pay in bitcoin. Oppositely, if you're oriented towards people who may not have an idea of what's bitcoin, then they will simply not pay in bitcoin.

Every time that I've offered Bitcoin as the only payment method available I've ended up losing the customer.
But, you shouldn't force them pay in bitcoin if they don't want to. If a person doesn't know what's bitcoin and is forced to use it, he'll probably just choose another store.

To answer your topic title: accepting Bitcoin doesn't make someone sound like a spammer, but shitposting useless dumb questions all over the forum makes you sound like a spammer, and for that reason, I wouldn't trade with you:
Hello, how much will 1000 members cost?
How was the wallet hacked?
Social engineering?
Hi, do you also make landing pages?
what are your terms?
Is it still available?
escrow?
How can I buy one?
The 6 posts I reported 2 days ago have been removed. Take a hint: stop spamming.

Every time that I've offered Bitcoin as the only payment method available I've ended up losing the customer.
It's the opposite for me: when buying online services, I never use Paypal. That's for buying physical goods.

Don't push customers when it comes to payment, make bitcoin and Paypal as an option for the buyers, once you conduct one or two transactions with them and are satisfied, you can push bitcoin for them. You know Paypal has a policy that protects its users and can revert payment if there is anything suspicious, they will choose that over bitcoin as the transaction cannot be reversed.
By the way, if you're legit, why do you think anyone would want to call you a scammer, is the order pay in delivering or post delivery.

It is normal OP in my opinion, don't get discouraged or begin to overthink the situation...as you mentioned that you just started, you haven't met all your customers yet, you are yet to met those who their preferred mode of payment is crypto.

There are some other reasons why the customers you've had currently choose PayPal option for payment, and not necessarily because they perceive you as a scammer;
- It is possible that they don't have crypto or are not conversant using crypto as a mode of payment. Many still view cryptocurrency as something strictly for investment (an investment scheme).

First of all, I want you to understand that you are not doing anything wrong, and that everything you said or experienced is normal, not very many people own bitcoin or other form of crypto currently, this is to tell you how new this technology still is to many people, they might have heard about it but are yet to fully get themselves involved in it.
And again, it also depend on how big your business is and how much and the kind of customers that patronize you, all I can say for now is, continue to offer both crypto and fiat payments to your customers and put your focus on growing your business and your customer base,  the time will come when you will start processing more bitcoin/crypto payments than fiat.

And also note that over 90 percent of those who currently own crypto actually see it as an investment, and not a means for paying for goods and services.

It could be that your customers do not hold Bitcoin since you mentioned that.

If the "online business" was outside the forum, expect many people to use Paypal over crypto. I mean if I was a non-holder of Bitcoin or any crypto, and you offered me that Bitcoin is the only payment method available, I would just prefer looking for other shops out there rather than bothering myself buying cryptos through Coinbase.

Here is my first question, which country/rejoin is your establishment situated? Because right now some countries has crypto-currency ban placed on them by the government, also how is crypto adoption like in your country? Also who does your establishment reach out to, if it’s the older citizens many of them are quite stubborn when it come to adopting/Bitcoin, so really you have to check all this and more, from my point of view it may not be that they see you as a scammer, if they accept PayPal and you have ran a successful business deal with them that mean there is an issue but definitely not scam.

There are two reasons why your customers never pay in bitcoin, either all of them don't know what bitcoin is and how to use it (depending on your target market) or they simply don't trust you enough and don't feel confortable to pay with a non-reversible payment method.

Either ways, nothing is preventing you from offering both payment methods on your website. So, do it and let your customers decide which one to use.

You lose customers because the customer is always right. You should adapt to them, not the vice versa, because they can just go to the other shop. Most of the population is not using Bitcoin, and won't jump through the hoops of creating an exchange account, passing KYC, buying Bitcoin, paying withdrawal fees, all to just become your customer.

or they simply don't trust you enough and don't feel confortable to pay with a non-reversible payment method.
This is exactly the reason I believe a lot of people aren't already using Bitcoin. The non-reversible side of Bitcoin is actually what intrigues a lot of people, and not just scammers to be clear. I'm sure a lot of us have been scammed via people charging back their payment, and usually when it comes to payment disputes, Paypal rule in the buyers favour.

So, one of the issues with Bitcoin albeit a small one is normal small time business owners are going to find it difficult to get Bitcoin as a payment because they haven't established enough trust. Whereas, the bigger companies which are more established will probably benefit from Bitcoin due to the issue with chargebacks. I know some users here have commented about Amazon in the past, and how people used to abuse the system to get free stuff. That ends with Bitcoin, and protects them. Unfortunately, this means that the seller of the service/product technically has the power due to no chargebacks. That is understandably a draw back for many people, especially when dealing with less established sellers.

Make your payments methods flexible to accommodate all your customers. There will be people who will be interested in making payments in Bitcoin so keep that line open. I think you should let the customers choose either of the payment options. The problem why crypto payments is rejected is lack of trust, your business is new, it will take some time to build your reputation  and create a relationship with your customers. Then they will be more at ease paying in Bitcoin

You are doing fine mate, it's a matter of choice, till this day many still prefer PayPal payment over crypto payment, I bought a PSN gift card from store online and I got into an issue, contacted the team and she said they hardly receive payment through crypto lol.

Not every customers have the knowledge about crypto yet, it's like you are forcing them to use crypto which is wrong.

Besides, business usually would accept many payment method to attract more customer.

The more payment methods, the more potential customers - it's hard to see why anyone would hesitate not to add Bitcoin as one in a series of payment methods. Although I understand that only Bitcoin as the only method of payment can cause suspicion in some people, because the myth that Bitcoin is something used by criminals still lives on.

2-3 years ago I was in a physical store that sells IT equipment and asked the seller if they plan to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment, to which he replied that they are not a dark web store and that they only accept legal payment methods. Roll Eyes

I accept PayPal and Crypto payments but so far all of my customers have chosen PayPal over crypto.

you don't have to worry, most of your customers would have been used to PayPal payment, all you need is to make the two options available, both PayPal and crypto means of payment, with time you will begin to attract cryptocurrency customers as well who will prefer it for their payment.

Every time that I've offered Bitcoin as the only payment method available I've ended up losing the customer.

you don't need to make cryptocurrency the only payment means for now just in other to keep your business running and for your old customers to keep with patronage, it will come to a stage they will begin to make request for other means of payment such as crypto, but before then you need to keep your business running, had it been you have not started with accepting PayPal that is another different case, but now you can't just come up with a change and expect it to be fully implemented, in other for you to still maintain the interest of your customers on your business, don't mandate cryptocurrency payments but rather make it optional.

Maybe you are in the market where majority of your costumer use paypal rather than crypto so best to target the larger market and maybe try to advertise your business by highlighting crypto as one of payment option accepted on your platform. Maybe you cannot get fast result but little by little if you are consistent on promoting crypto you will get positive result on the actions you made.
