Whether it be 10 merits or 1000 merits from the next rank, this thread is still basically a legal begging thread.

When it's 10 merits or even 20 merits for a rank like Hero or Legendary or even full member, it looks okay to me and it's fun to send such required numbers. I will not tell that they are begging. We do so many things to have fun but some people are just trying to take advantage of the topic. Sorry if I am ruining the test of the topic but that's how I am seeing it now. The interesting initiative by the OP is being used by the beggars.

Then I will also count down to Legendary rank, the remaining Merit required is 837. 

Your begging (sarcasm of-course LOL) is acceptable because it came from the issue we are discussing right at the moment.

I've had no issues with any of the numbers generated in this thread. For those who post countdowns, of course, the motive is to ask for a review of the posts made and earn merit and rank up.
when the rank up difference is still too far away, of course, they won't get the rank up. if the difference is between 10-20 merit, of course, other members can help him to rank up.

what might be going on in this thread is the potential for merit abuse to rank up alt accounts. it was very possible that it would happen, if not caught this time then in the future they would show themselves.

I'm not mad at those posting their goal that are miles away, but it does look bad for them. Then we open their profile and look to help but cannot find any post worth meriting. That's why I said in my previous post that I am more apt to help those that have put in the work as they have at least tried.

I like helping people but you gotta make me want to help you guys. Don't post that you're 100 merits away and when I open your profile it's all bounty posts or something crazy like that.

In short this thread got out of hand after some users actually managed to get enough merit and rank up. The OP's idea may be good, but it's hard to prevent some things from being great once people's interest increases.

I think now the OP needs to add a bit of custom rules to the thread so that the actual countdown post that is far from being ranked isn't done by some users anymore. Less than 10% - 15% to the next rating I think is good and would probably be great to consider. But I'm sure, some user are starting to notice it and I think the interest is going to drop a bit now.

In the subject of this thread, in the beginning, it says [FUN]. it seems that this is a clear direction as to how this thread should be viewed, frivolous and fun for members who want a rank up, in addition to the fact that it seems impossible due to the poor quality of the posts.

I am one of the members who often follow this thread every time I go online. Either I made a countdown here twice, the rest I no longer dared to make a countdown because it didn't make sense to do so because my distance to the next rank required hundreds of merits.

Regarding this, it reminds me of one of our friends who has given an explanation regarding the purpose of this thread. _BlackStar already said that if a member wants to make the countdown better if the remaining merit is around 5 or 10, he even gives some examples of members who are eligible to make a countdown;

It was because this thread allowed some of users to get the last few merit ^{[10 or 20 for example]} to rank up. Most of them get some merit from various other threads and post a countdown to the next rank when it gets really close.

When you read the topic title at least, you should have a sense of how it should be handled. It's all common sense, no one is going to tuition you of what to do and what not to. When you will do things unusually then someone will speak.

Pay attention to the rules in the OP, it seems that they can really explain how this thread works so it doesn't deviate from its purpose. I believe this thread is starting to get abused by some users who think they'll easily earn merit by making countdowns, it's like begging if basically the quality of their posts isn't worth it. IMO - Meanwhile, some users deserve help and some are just begging.

Because the wrong perception of the rules in the Op made them deviate from the purpose of this thread. I agree with what @Falconer said, This thread got out of hand after some users managed to earn enough merit to go to the next rank. I think because this thread is not self-moderated it makes Op unable to control this thread directly.

I wished to make this topic a self moderated one but I guess I've not attained the rank required yet, as I can't fine the self moderate button any where.
