I'm able to disconnect from it and forget about gambling for a long time. I think what the OP mentioned is more towards crime and character, my understanding is that addiction doesn't harm other people, tend to be more addicted to themselves in making gambling bets, maybe they will sell theirs to bet.

Addiction is an uncontrollable urge so an addicted person will do everything to get money for gambling.   That includes embezzling funds, and committing crimes like thief and robbery in order to get money for gambling.  Thus, the addiction does harm other people.

Of course you are right, losing will have a negative impact on the gambler and the least impact is a change in mood. Even if it was around $5, I'm sure a lot of people would experience that change especially if they were in a third world country.

I think controlling oneself is the biggest challenge in gambling. I was addicted to gambling once a time but now I am quite successful from it. I gamble now but it is under my control.

Well in that case we can take both instances and call them the possible causes. Both extremes of one side, one being too rich and one too poor, try to go into gambling to look for something that could help them. The former want adrenaline, the latter need a life-changing experience. Wouldn't really tell that they're equal, but well the world didn't bring us equally here in the first place anyway. There might be special cases though where people just end up being addicted due to, well, playing it for a long time (and I'd honestly place my bets here most of the time).

How much of the wealthy represent the general percentage of addicts to gambling in the world and throughout the entire history of gambling? I don't think they are large enough to form a definition of gambling addiction.
But in general, they have in common with the poor in many points, including their inability or loss of the desire to do something useful on the belief that they are smarter than others, or more fortunate than others. And considering the state of addiction inevitably linked to successive losses, they will lead themselves to bankruptcy and return to the same definition box that I referred to.

I'd say it will depend on the gambler. There goes the gamblers that would really need a long time before he's able to take a whole healing process.

But for some, it won't take that much because of the burning desire to quit gambling and can't take it anymore as they experience the negative effects of it.

I don't think there are any special characteristics because everyone has a different lifestyle, even though they are both addicted to online gambling but I think they have their own characteristics and it will be different depending on their lifestyle.
