I can't say yes or no ETH can take over BTC's current position, because as we know ETH is always under btc, even though costs are reduced but it doesn't make eth able to take over it all
there are several possibilities about eth position in future and there is no impossible thing in crypto market. ethereum recently give important about their algorithm . hopefully ethereum fundamental could bring positive impact to another altcoin especially under eth chain. i am believe if market give good response about this update, soon or later btc position will replaced by ethereum.

I don't think ETH will take over BTC just because it goes from PoW to PoS, it maybe the opposite.
Currently, there are no coins can beat Bitcoin value in the market, do you know why ? Because the circulation is very limited.
Just imagine how many Bitcoin has lost up to date, the coin circulation is very low but the demand is high, therefore the coin value is very high.

Actually both currencies are doing well in crypto market it is very difficult to predict whether Eth can take over BTC or not. Bitcoin is the king in the crypto market followed by ethereum I don't think anyone can take someone's position both the coins will do well on their platforms.

In my own understanding I don't think so if Ethereum price  can overtake  Bitcoin price because we all know how far the lead of bitcoin price and also ETH price is depending on bitcoins price because when the price of bitcoin will rise then ETH will also rise and of fall or down then ETH price will down also .and also the price will based on proof of stake and proof of work.  But over all these both coins are good for investing .

eth will never overtake BTC.

they both offer completely difference services. The difference is the service ETH offers is completely replaceable, and is being replaced by faster, more efficient competitors.

BTC has no competitors. It is technologically pure are a perfect fit for purpose.

ETH must evolve faster than it has been to date if it wants to remain the top of the smart contract platforms. The merge places it still behind the speed and cost of others, not to mention the fact Proof of Stake is a blatant ponzi scheme. The merge likely does ETH more harm than good.

Bitcoin has miners, and Ethereum will switch to PoS, of course Miners will also switch, maybe they go mining Bitcoin or maybe other coins,
this is the reason why Etherum will not be able to replace Bitcoin, because of the difference in algorithms and we know Ethereum was launched a long time ago,
and until now Ethereum remains under Bitcoin, and that is what will happen next

The top two coins that have a very strong community, especially in Bitcoin the world's first digital currency, have large investors around the world, to the point that Bitcoin cannot be compared to ETH, the two are indeed a compatible pair in the Crypto world and even  cannot be separated, both have advantages in their fields, and in my opinion ETH will not be able to take over Bitcoin as the king of all Crypto currencies.

This was discussed for many years. And there was a time in the past before the Segwit fork that ETH came very close to surpassing Bitcoin market cap, however it never actually surpassed. Because Bitcoin agrees to activate the Segwit fork.

Will it surpass sometime in the future? Who knows. It might or might not. Right now there is too much uncertainty especially with the merge fork. And there are always tons of bugs that needs to be worked out.
I remember those days as well, that was the only realistic chance that ethereum had of surpassing bitcoin as there was uncertainty about whether segwit will be activated or not and what this will mean for bitcoin, however since then bitcoin has put more and more distance between them and it does not seems as if ethereum has what it is needed to do so, as even if ethereum has reached new ATHs when it comes to fiat terms it has never surpassed its ATH when it comes to bitcoin.

Yes, I will never forget that time as well, they even have terms for it, Flippening and then Rippening (XRP). So obviously, it didn't happen. And now they are it again just because of the merger?, I don't think so.

It's good to see the price hitting $2,000 again, Ethereum investors are going to be happy with that. But please, no need to hype that there will be another Flippening story because they will not get as close to the price of Bitcoin right now, to be honest.
At least to me it seems that they are trying to revive those rumors in order to increase the price of the ethereum, I don't really blame them because if they were able to achieve that then the price of them will go up tremendously and the benefits that they will obtain by investing in ethereum now will be huge, but we need to be realistic, that possibility doesn't exist anymore and anyone that thinks so is going to be incredibly disappointed when that doesn't happen.

Agree with what you said, both bitcoin and ethereum are the top cryptocurrencies that have advantages in their respective fields, they are not in the capacity to beat each other, but speaking of this community will be quite different, that both have different amounts, it's a community problem this is what allows Ethereum to catch up, not a price issue or take over as king of all cryptocurrencies (bitcoin)

And after all these years ethereum has not once surpassed bitcoin so now there is no reason why it should take over bitcoin. All this news is like creating misunderstanding about ethereum, aim to push eth price to the top to take profit. People need to be alert to these types of news, they are probably distracting us, creating a fomo effect so that they silently take profits. Those who bought eth at $900 will surely take advantage of this opportunity to take profits.

With PoS coming and Gas fee finally getting fixed do you think that Ethereum is capable of overtaking bitcoin? Oh also there will be max supply for Ethereum finally too, or is this expectation of mine way too high.

The Merge a long awaited upgrade will complete Ethereum's switch from pow to pos in september the merge wil change how etherum handles its money making the network more stable and decreasing the amount of eth in circulation.
Ethereum's inflation will be reduced after the merge ethereum is deflationary especially with fee burns while Bitcoin is inflationary each halving reduces inflation ethereum will have a larger adoption space as the base layer of the decentralised financial DeFi economy. The merge won't alleviate ethereum's high transaction costs which prevent scaling according to raman ethereum will leverage layer 2 scaling methods to accommodate most user activity. It will supplant Bitcoin as the dominant cryptocurrency in terms of pure economics and the impact of the supply shock ethereum does have a shot of overtaking Bitcoin.

If it's talking about daily volume then it's probably taking over Bitcoin but if we're talking about both price then ETH probably never surpass Bitcoin. Even Ethereum has more utilities than Bitcoin but Bitcoin is like parents for every crypto in the crypto space so just hope that ETH will have a new ATH soon and we should prepare our capital to not miss the train.

Though Ethereum is a reputable coin and really waxing stronger, it will not overtake Bitcoin in many years to come. Apart from Bitcoin being the first coin that have gained massive support and popular over the years, Bitcoin is built to be secure and have proven to be good for long term investment. Currently, from CMC, Bitcoin dominance is 40.05% while Ethereun dominance is 20.37% as at 14/08/2022, meaning that Ethereum still have a long way to go. With the on-going merger, I will rather be more observant to watch how things unfold. It is rather too early to conclude that Ethereum will grow faster than how it has been.

I dont own ethereum or even btc but i know that both coins are good coins and trusted by so many investors. Since 2016 or even from the beginning of the creation or eth and btc, in my own opinion ethereum will not surpass btc because if it can surpass btc it maybe happens before because we experience a lot of dip on btc the problem is when BTC is on dip ethereum together with different coin will also experienced dip so eth will not surpass btc at all.

if ethereum becomes PoS then I don't think it will be different from other altcoins that already carry PoS. this is just exaggerated news. in the end after the hype ended. then the price of ethereum will still follow bitcoin. I think people should understand the big difference between bitcoin and altcoins. if we delve deeper into bitcoin then I don't think things like this need to come up again to be a question. because this question has come up many times before. but for the altcoin class, ethereum is indeed the king among other altcoins. but I think it still needs more time to compete with bitcoin. and even I doubt that time will ever come. but the possibility will always exist even if it is very small.

Stablecoins have experienced rapid market growth over the past two years and have become one of the core components of the cryptocurrency ecosystem, now having a larger market cap than Ethereum (ETH) due to the volume of value entering the stablecoin market.

But increasing rumors about an impending Ethereum merger in September have caused the price of ETH to rise thus being able to regain Ethereum's dominance over stablecoins, but never outperform bitcoin.

I agree with you, ETH used to be different from all the rest of the altcoins because it was a POW like bitcoin. But once it becomes POS it is no different from the rest, maybe when ETH becomes POS there will be no altcoins that can compare or catch up with ETH, but ETH is more unlikely than ever to take over BTC. All the recent news on ETH is aimed at creating hype that pushes ETH price higher followed by profit taking from the sharks.

Not sure about that. But if they can manage to impliment more in ETH and fix all the issue. Maybe, maybe then ETH might have a chance. But from my prespection, it will take much more time to reach where BTC now stands.

if ethereum becomes PoS then I don't think it will be different from other altcoins that already carry PoS. this is just exaggerated news. in the end after the hype ended. then the price of ethereum will still follow bitcoin.
There is a small difference between going up solo, and going up with market. I think ETH will not flip, but it will definitely go up solo a bit, while the whole market will probably go up, but ETH will go up more than the market. So, let's say if all goes up 20%, ETH will go up 50%+ or so.

This doesn't make it go beyond bitcoin of course, it doesn't make it the first coin. However, I have to say that is still a good thing for ETH right? Be higher than everyone else? That is not going to be something shocking to us at all. I will definitely end up with something decent and it will definitely get there, it just won't be something too big at all.

Ethereum can't compete with bitcoin, I can confirm that at this time if the price of bitcoin goes down then the price of ethereum will also go down but if the price of ethereum goes down it certainly has no effect on the price of bitcoin.
agreed ETH overall still follows the trend of BTC in every of BTC move ETH still heavily influenced by it. I think in the future things will stay like that, since considering the massive investments flows still going in BTC and as long as things stays like that ETH could hardly ever take over BTC in the futures. ETH needs to be independent from BTC first then it could starts taking over BTC because otherwise the market capitalization of ETH will always gets eaten once there's massive rally coming for BTC in the future just like in the past cycle.
