Merit is awarded for useful/quality posts. Some guidelines for quality posts are in this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5409763.0
I will not get deeply into details, but if you post useful and well written stuff, sooner or later somebody will notice that and award you with merits.
Even good questions can get merited.

PS. For example, this post of yours is rather badly written and hard to understand everything you meant. Just saying...

And why do you care about merit more than knowledge about bitcoin? Merit questions are very popular, so try to be original, and your merit will come to you very soon.

Just use this forum to learn and exchange information with others in a sincere way, and in time you will receive some merits. Worrying too much about merits leads some people to be put on ignore lists, which they are less likely to receive, or to cheat, which they end up banned.

Other than that, I think the advice from NeuroticFish and lovesmayfamilis is good.

Learn to create reasonable topics on the forum or try solving some one issue you will definitely get merit doing so, do not go online using search engine and copy-pasting, doing so will get you banned.

There are many topics like this has been created before and you can see it when you used the search button and also there's a topic like this Last  August 5 2022 someone asked In meta how to earn merit then now you asking it here. Anyways to gain more merits you need to know what is this forum all about and also to gain you need to post a quality and helpful thread or reply. Because merit is given to those users who deserve to be given.

I don't understand why someone need to give a guide to him how to get merit, it's just like his motivation joining this forum only to earn merit. If he start forget about merit and put more effort about anything he like or contribution, sooner or later he will get at least 1 merit.

Copy pasting and including the original source is fine, but if he's copy pasting without the original source, then it's not allowed.

OP, this isn't the right motive that a newbie like you ought to have. First off, you need to ask questions relating to the things you need to know about the forum or Bitcoin because everyone who is in this forum will be of help to you in terms of helping you with the right answers to help you get the knowledge you need to grow as a newbie. Focus more on learing, make useful contributions, and providing solutions to certain problems in the forum here I believe with this, that which you seek to know and have will be given to you freely.

Explore the forum first so you will have ideas how to create quality posts. Because even if you are a newbie, as long as you know well about the topic you started, you can get merits as well if you create a useful post that will leave good benefits to your other forum members. Always do your research, so you will gain more great ideas and information to share to the forum. And never resort into plagiarism, you will be banned in the forum.

It is bad and not proper if you are on this forum just for Merits. I wonder how you know about merits in the first place. It is suspicious and doesn't speak well about your motives for joining. I'd advice that you to have a rethink and quickly align your motives towards learning first about the primary subject of this forum which remains bitcoins.

Do not be too obsessed with merits OP, knowledge should be your first aim so you can be an asset in the forum. Once you have gained the knowledge already, and you are aware on how the forum runs, you will get used to it posting relevant posts, merits then will follow. For now, know the do's and dont's in the forum first so you will have more chances to stay here. You will always be safe as long as you intend to keep abiding with the rules.

This forum is more on a place for information sharing, and getting educated through the helpful posts from the early members as they are more knowledgeable and have better experiences to share than newbies. So focus more on getting valid and legit information first before you consider yourself getting merits. If you do that, others will start noticing you and will see you as a quality poster, and in time you receive consistent merits from them.

Permit me to say this that you need a oroper orientation about this forum, and I think you're missing out the first step which is expected of you to have done before engaging in further activities which is Newbies - Read before posting and the "Forum's Rules and Regulations". if you had gone through these you wouldn't have create time out of nothing in asking about what you posted, rather you will be busy thinking of what to contribute to the development of the forum, ensure you read them this time around.

I don't know if you are on the forum to learn or to just look for merit, if you are here to learn or make impact on the forum don't worry you are definitely going to get merit but if you are here to get merit, you might not last in the forum, because you might go against the forum rules just because you are looking for merit. I think the first thing you should do is go through the forum rules and understand the forum rules first, so that you won't make mistakes which some newbies always make because they are  hunting for merit(plagiarism).

You get merits when you -
1. Make high quality topic that shares new knowledge.
2. Explain a difficult concept and break it down in it simplest form.
3. Give a satisfactory answer to a member's question.
4. Disagree with an OP's post while stating your opposing viewpoints in a polite and respectful manner.
5. Create a software or program that is of help to the community For example the BitcoinTalk SuperNotifier V2 by TryNinja.

I would assume the question to be a basic newbie question, nothing bad or offensive or suspicious or improper about it. That newbie must have started exploring the features of this forum.

And it isn't a wonder that a newbie finds out about the merit system. After all, it is indicated in our profile and in every post.

What is rather improper and unfair is to judge right away that merit is what motivates a newbie for joining when in fact he/she, being a newbie, is simply asking about it.

It takes many qualities to get merit. So that others can benefit from your knowledge. And can learn a lot. It should be posted in such a way that it is standard and very easy to understand. You will definitely get merit if you do this kind of post.
