This is the highest form of parental irresponsibility and in recent times we have continued to see parents that have no respect for parenthood. You have to wonder what kind of gambling outfit allows someone to even enter the premises with a young child like that. ^ You perfectly arise good questions here, the first thing that I think is why the lottery casino owner agreed that the collateral is a boy, the son of an addicted woman to gambling which is they probably take the advantage of this woman. This is very irresponsible parenting if this is true or the mother has a mental disorder because no one parent will be put in danger of their child. Just when you believe that you have seen it all something like this happens, to begin with how did the woman lose more money than what she had on her at the time? Did the casino allowed her to borrow money? Because I really think such practice should be forbidden in order to diminish the instances in which an event like this could happen, second did she not had something else on her to leave as collateral like a smartphone? Gambling addiction don't recognize gender.  Male or female, they are both susceptible to addiciton.  This kind of story isn't the first one to be heard.  This kind of heart breaking incidents always happen even before we are born in this world.  Selling properties, relatives like daughter and sons to slavery just to fulfill the person's desire to gamble happens even in ancient times.

Indeed it is very alarming reason why many government put restrictions on gambling.  In the earlier years, I think this kind of event happens way more frequently.  Lucky in modern times government are able to minimize this kind of activity due to laws that forbid this kind of human traficking.

With millions of people involved in gambling around the world, things like this or worst than this surely happened and for me this is just a matter of personal upbringing, I mean maybe that woman involved has been doing those weird things in the past that making her child as collateral is not a hard thing to do.

I think it's also the fault of the owner of that betting shop because why would they agree that a kid will be used as collateral? that's a crazy case that should raise attention to gamblers and people who are addicted to gambling, because for it probably starred as "I'm just gambling for fun" then it evolves to bad things which as we can see as bad as leaving your own child, people should put limits to their gambling and avoid things getting worse, you might think you would never do anything like that but Gambling can drive people crazy.

As always there are extreme cases of gambling addiction. It always comes with the game. That is why tight regulations against gambling should be implemented. Not only because of it could destroy one's finances or it could be used by launderers but also because it could actually destroy one's mental health and stability. I hope there will be intervention especially to the child and for the entire gambling sector as well so that cases such as this won't happen again.

But what type of regulation in this case? This is a woman with a kid. Or regulation would not let the woman to gamble? Or that women having children should not gamble again? That is not possible. What I know can be regulated about gambling are not related to this case. The woman is out of her mind and does not worth that child again. It would be good if the woman is not given the child again because it would not be a surprise if the woman later sell the child for money is what I could think.

I don't have anything specific in mind but I think there must be something that needs to be done so that things like this won't happen again. Perhaps mothers, even fathers, or anybody bringing little children shouldn't be allowed to gamble? Or why does the mother in this case need to offset her losses? Gambling is a legitimate business in Nigeria, the casinos and bet shops are very much patronized. I do not think the woman from the article has a gambling addiction. I believe she was trying to make some quick cash to pay her bills, and ended up incurring more debts. The lotto shop is not entirely innocent in this case, their mode of operation is unprofessional. How can they allow customers to stake games and not pay first or immediately. And accepting a child as collateral? It’s unheard of!

The more the gambling became legal the more the people are prone to addictions because there are no restrictions being applied to them except only if they will restrict their own selves which is recommended. Even if let say the woman is not addicted, it is still wrong to think that the gambling machine is similar to ATM machine where you can dispense cash to pay your bills. What can likely happen is that she can get stuck in more debts.

For sure the casino or gambling platform wont really be allowing that kind of stuff which is totally inhuman.This is where people do really end up if severe addiction hits you hard and
