If you do this in our country both parties will be in charge of human trafficking and child abandonment and go to jail, it's a crime to use the child as collateral.

Both genders can be a victim of doing something outrageous like this, gambling addiction will blind our judgment to do what is right, the government should move to protect the child and send the child to a children's welfare center, we have this kind in our country, until such time that the mother gets a full assessment if she is ready to take care of the child and she is totally cured of gambling.

I think a person like that is just as disturbed as someone who is addicted to drugs.
I have a family, a wife and children, and I consider them an asset far more precious than any money or anything in this world.
It's unimaginable to think about what this woman did, but one thing I'm sure of... she can't be called the "mother" of this boy.
Gambling is fantastic entertainment for those who know how to master it, but a lethal drug (that kills families) for those who let themselves be dominated by it.

This is the height of it, making the innocent child suffer for her own irresponsibility. The child should be taking into government care and such a mother if found should be arrested and taking to rehabilitation. I wonder what her intention was, maybe that the child should be held by the gambling shop to repay the equivalent of the money lost in labor.

This is just not irresponsible parenting but this is the main reason on why she should not have been a parent at all.

She has no regards for human life especially that she can offer her child as a collateral for her own personal need and gain. The fact that she can freely offer, with clear conscience, her own child speaks on how grave her gambling addiction is. I really hope that she will never ever able to retrieve her son after this incident- who knows what the son had suffered while he was staying with his mother during this time.

I hope that the government does something with this incident. The health and welfare of the child is the paramount consideration of the government; the child should be given to a legal guardian and the mother should not have custody or anything whatsoever with him.

I don't know but with how people are thinking right now and how gambling can affect a gambler's mind, I'm not surprised that it comes to a point that this scenario will happen.
I mean I also saw a news (can't remember where though) and it's the same situation as what the OP has posted. The only difference is the end result because the gambler got the child fortunately while the one that the OP posted doesn't.

We only feel sadness regarding this one and the gambler who abandoned her child really is out of her mind. Typically, male gamblers are the ones who are getting addicted into it but it's my first time to see a woman getting addicted to the point that she abandoned her child. Really disappointing TBH and I hope that she will get caught and be imprisoned because this is against the human rights. I don't know anything about the law especially in Nigeria, but this is unacceptable.

This is so tragic, and I do agree that this is the worst kind of parents that you can find. How can he do that and put his child as a collateral. In the old days when only men gambled, there were those who gambled with their wives, but nowadays things have changed and just as women participate more in society and daily life, they are also acquiring more vices, such as smoking, gambling or watching pornography.

When you read something like this, it will trigger a big alarm on the kind of addiction some people have developed because of gambling addiction, some people will do everything and sacrifice even their loves, I've read about abandonment because of hunger but not addiction to gambling, she is not in the right and there should be government intervention, gambling addiction can get you out of your mind and the government should address this issue, it may not be an isolated issue and there will be more if they cannot address people from getting addicted to gambling.

Here the question is how she get in that debt, and why the casino let her play with debt?

If the woman didn't had the money to gamble, then from my point of view the fault was from the casino for letting her play.

And leave a child as collateral is a really cruel move, the place shouldn't allow her to do that. All was wrong in this history.

Actually, AFAIK there are a lot of casino out there especially on offline or land base casino that allow their gamblers to continue gambling if you didn't have anymore funds left. This mostly apply for regular gamblers and they will allow them to gamble with credit. However, the casino is on the wrong when they've accepted the child as collateral as that can be considered as child trafficking.

Anyways, as for the OP's opinion about him being shocked about the gender of that gambler. Men are usually being shown when it comes to gambling however it doesn't represent that only men gamble and prone to gambling addiction which is what the story shows.

This is extreme addiction that leads to an unhealthy mind. I think the mother wants to abandon her child as she might not be able to take good care on him anymore, this is my take in this issue. If the child was taken as a collateral, how come he's still out there waiting for the mother? Or, the other party doesn't want this collateral at all, it's totally inhumane, it's too much.

What kind of mother is she and what kind of casino that accept a kid as collateral? I cant get what is happening with these people both the women and the owner of the lottery shop, how can they make the deal? I would say both parties are the dumbest people in the world or at least in the gambling history. Lesson learned for all of us that we should always gambling responsibly to avoid something that we cant handle ourselves. I hope the boy will be OK and once he is mature enough to know about this fact, he will forgive what his mother did to him.

If you read the news, the police and the journalist have not yet known what actually happened, if this is truly totally related to gambling or not.

That is Nigeria, people are frustrated in Nigeria with increasing poverty and low standard of living. We do not know what that woman is going through that led to that. People in a developed country may see it as another thing, but it may be lack of money and poverty that caused it. It is good to have money, but Nigeria is just one of the worst country that people are living below the poverty line.

Now the question is..... Why did they allow her to enter the casino/gambling shop with her child? In our casinos ...nobody under the age of 18 are allowed to enter a place of gambling. (Not even as a spectator) 

The casino should have called the authorities while she was there and arrested her and then the child should have been placed in a place of safety or with a family member.

This is the worst decision made by certain people, I think that person needs help because gambling eat his nerves already and hopefully local authorities will get alerted for what their local do because making your child as a collateral so that he can continue his activities is total sick. Holy f I never heard of such thing before.This very woman for me should be condemned to the maximum punishment so she should be sentenced to life sentence in jail.It is great that the police station took the child and it is great that the gambling shop were responsible enough to bring the child back.Imagine if they were not at all responsible that could have led to major bad consequences and that is why I say that the woman who committed this act should suffer the maximum punishment and the child to be given to custody or to his father if he has the father.

It's not stated in the news, but I'm curious, was the mother able to play because she offered her child as a collateral? Because if the gambling shop didn't accept her offer then she should've brought her son along with her when she returned home. But why is the child left at the shop? Despite this is an act uncalled for and is totally forbidden to be expected from a serious and right sence thinking wife and a mother, a woman should not go too low and bazzark by forgetting the day of her labour in giving birth to the child while through her selfish desires for gambling to now abandoned her own child because of losses in gambling, infact she should be arraigned to face the court of law, am very sure she's the type that has been under divorce from her husband else the husband will give her the very best beating of her life that night.
