I don't know how people feel seeing animals fighting for their life and gamblers betting on them, I used to see some young men with dogs wrestling each around my environment, and most times I use to feel bad that those dogs are being maltreated.
I think the government should put in place some law that protects animals, and anyone found wanting should face the rout of the law because animals are not getting the necessary protection their to deserve and their owners choose to do whatever their wish to the point of gambling on the life of those animals. There are always people who will go against the law to profit.  Even if cockfighting is banned, I bet there will be still lots of underground cockfighting appearing every now and then.  Worst the operator oftentimes is a government official.
