Nigeria Premier Football League/Players Discussion Thread: 2025/26

Did something happen with Mamelodi Sundowns as they used to be the favorite in this league dominating it in the last years and yet when I checked the standings I don't see them nowhere in the top of the table, I checked further and further and I didn't see them at all in the standings. Are they banned over some soccer scandal, like match buy/sell or fixing as I don't see any other reason for such team to get out of the Nigerian Premier League, still though I don't play this league since some years where I lost a lot of bets thanks to the favorite teams losing their games. If this is the truth that they are banned for some soccer scandal then I have made the right choice in stopping to bet in this league, it just made me curious though not seeing them in the Premier series of Nigeria.

@swogerino are you being serious or you're only trying to find attention by saying that you're looking for melody sundown in the Nigerian premier League this your story sounds funny and not realistic to believe because there's no such team in the Nigerian premier League mamelody sundown is a South Africa team that plays in the south African league they are only popular because they play in the cafeteria champions League and they have won it due to their dominant performance both in the south African league and the cafeteria champions League, so it's really funny when you are looking forbsundowns in nigerian premier League even though i know that you're actually joking and looking for attention

It's second half in the game between Eyimba Vs Black Bulls. Eyimba are leading 2:1, first goal was courtesy of Joseph Atule in the 7th minutes then followed by a reply  by the Black bulls forward Ejaita Ifoni in less than 5 minutes. Just after that 1:1 leveler Ifeanyi Ihemekwele scored the second goal that brought Eyimba back in the lead before the end of first half. Eyimba appears to be the better side in this game and it's quite obvious with how they have dominated the game right from the first 45 minutes and for that I don't expect less from them in winning the match with more goals in the second half.

Enyimba were able to protect their one goal lead till the end of their game against Black Bulls of Mozambique. Playing at home at their home stadium in Aba Nigeria, I expected Enyimba to win the game with a better goal margin than what we saw today. Enyimba though have been performing well in the Nigeria Professional League this season but I don't see them winning a continental trophy this season.

Enyimba still failed to win a match today as they played against Bendel Insurance, the match ended in a goalless draw against, Enyimba have now failed to score in four consecutive matches in the Nigerian league, the last time they score was over a month ago against Abia warriors in a 1-1 draw. They have now failed to win a match in their last 10 games in all competitions. Maybe for the first time this season I will say Enyimba deserve to win today.

With the new management first outing today they really played well even though they didn’t get the result they wanted, they controlled the game better and even had over 6 shots on target. I they were very unlucky today not to get the win. I believe this new coach will do better and win matches for them. I saw some few sparks in the team today, the way they played and even the way they attack. I can’t give credits yet but with what I saw today if they continue like that they might be a chance they might still have a good season.

You are right,bro  but Enyimba football team could not win this match due to bad luck. The performance of that team was excellent in this match and players gave all effort to win this match but result was not in the favour of Enyimba football team and match was ended with draw match. Enyimba football team should improve their performance because that is not enough to win the match and they have to strong their attacking system if they want to win in future matches. They have to note down their limitations on which they have to work. The head to head performance of Enyimba team against Bendel Insurance team was 50-50 and that's is the reason we got draw result of that match.That was match of Nigeria Premier Football League which was organized in the Enyimba international Stadium,aba and no team could goal in this match.

Nasarawa United who are sitting 20th in the league table don’t stand a chance in winning today match. I think Enyimba desperately needs this win to build on the winning momentum.

I feel so proud of the Nigerian side for winning this game especially as it was hosted by the Nigerian side, if they had lost or had a draw in this game it would have felt embarrassing that they couldn't win playing from home but I'm glad they won and put a Nigerian team in the tournament ahead,  this shows the dominance of Nigerian across Africa as one which stands second to none  and that they have a chance at winning this cup by the end of the tournament.

Enyimba football team played top class inning in the match which they played against  Associação Black Bulls football team. Enyimba football team did 4 goals in this match and that was extraordinary performance because we saw very less matches in which teams played like that . J. S. Atule did 2 goals in this match and he was the top class player because he gave good start to his team. He did first goal at 6 minutes of the match and after that opponent team resist and Ifoni did second goal of the match and he did goal at 12 minutes of the match.J. S. Atule  did last goal of the match but his role was appreciated because he did 2 goals in this match.Ihemekwele did 1 goal in this match and he was also in good form because he did goal and after his goal match was in the side of Enyimba but before that match was going towards draw.

He has won CAF Champion League twice with Enyimba,
Even though he is blind with the right eye, he was playing a great football in his days. "Okemmiri was invited to the super eagle of Nigeria but unfortunately he failed to make the final cut in the squad"

Enyimba have been struggling since the beginning of season as they have lacked consistency, but since the change of management the team have been much better, they play much better now and above all they are making good use of their chances. Nasarawa United is having a very bad season, they are sitting 20th in the league standing which if nothing is done they might be relegating.

The new player for Enyimba, former Nigerian national team player Brown Ideye is finding his foam in the league and for Enyimba. He have now scored twice from the bench in all competitions since joining the club this winter. It was what Enyimba was lacking, someone who can make good use of their chances and that is exactly what he is doing.

Enyimba are now 7th in the league, having 2 matches in hand to play, if they can win them, they might be playing international football again next season. Enyimba are doing well now and I really hope they can build on this winning momentum.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has announced plans to introduce a minimum monthly wage of 1 million naira (approximately $650 USD) for all players in the top flight league ¹. This move aims to improve the standard of living for players and ensure they're adequately compensated for their services.

Additionally, the NPFL Chairman, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye, has declared that the minimum salary for players will be reviewed after the 2024/2025 campaign ². This review is part of the league's efforts to attract investors and promote transparency, credibility, and professional refereeing.

As for me the amount is still small compared to others. But it is a good start and this can also motivate skillful players who want to join the LEAGUE to be happy and those who are already there will do well because that can solve some bills for them and there is a hope for every month end. I really thank God for this new development. Skillful players in local communities will be motivated to join the LEAGUE now.

Enyimba football team took advantage of home ground and that team won the match easily by doing 2 goals in this match. Nasarawa United football team did only 1 goal in this match and that team player Yusuf did goal for his team and no other player could do any goal for his team . J. S. Atule was the player who did goal at 49 minutes of the match when his team was waiting for the goal and after this Yusuf did goal and now goals were equal but after that Ideye did excellent effort and he used his mind and got benefit from the opportunity and he did goal at 63 minutes of the match.We are actively watching the Nigeria Premier Football League and I expected that Enyimba will be winner of this match and my prediction was right and I am happy and Enyimba team , congratulations due to success in this match and always try to give hundred percent.

I was pleased that Heartland FC was able to get a win after many weeks. The Emmanuel Amunike side has not been impressive after so much investment by the state government. They have not won any game since December 1st when they won against Nasarawa United at Dan Anyiam Stadium. Since then they have lost two games and drew two. Today's win over Lobo United has moved them to eleventh position.

The team has also been fortified with nine new players which include Daniel Ekpo, Stephen Ezeamaiwe, Kenneth Ache, Isaac Nassy, Samuel Agu, Terdoo Shimagande, John Bassey, Joel Okoro, and Anthony Omaka.

it's been a while I follow up the games and before then too Remo Stars was doing well in the season and from all indications they will win the trophy. But that just a prediction. Rivers United is also on the line to take the trophy. I was supporting Bayelsa United and Rivers United but Bayelsa United is not encouraging fans to support them so as it is, I a fans of Rivers United in this league.

Stars' War Today

Today we have the two stars in the NPFL to top and the next position of the table. Remo Stars which has been flying from the onset of the league will not like to give for Sunshine Stars to beat. Even though Sunshine Stars bear Remo Stars in this match, Sunshine Stars can only move forward and they can't over take the position of Remo Stars because the gap is much. Remo Stars currently has 42 points at the number one top while Sunshine Stars has 24 points and they are in the 15th position in the table but if they win this game, they will move upward in the table.
The match will be played at the Akure in Ikene. This an another battle for the Stars' War.

Another weekend of heart break for Rivers United fans, as they are gradually losing out on the title challenge. How things can quickly turn around in football. Few weeks ago Rivers United and Remo stars where battling it out for the top of the table. Few weeks later Rivers United have dropped to the 3 position in the league ranking, and they are surprisingly trailing the league leaders Remo Stars with 10 points. After the impressive performance of Remo stars yesterday by winning at away against sunshine stars. We were hoping that Rivers United will do the same today when they visit Heartland of Owerri. Instead Rivers United were trashed by 2:0 by the heartland boys, to put further doubts on their title chances. It seems like Remo Stars are already running away with the league this season, as their is no team capable of challenging them anymore, after Rivers United collapsed in their title chase.

It saddens my heart each time I hear the news that a player was beaten by fans because of an error on a pitch. That doesn't seem nice, and it feels as, it's not something to stop any time soon that a player will be beaten up on a pitch by fans because of a simple error that anyone can fall guilty of at any time.

However, this kind of incident should call for the attention of the NPL and the governing body of security agencies to look into it deeply to bring a lasting solution. If there is any way to employ security men in any NPL match to caution against incidents like this from reoccurring, that would be very nice before players life will be lost

This is one of the reasons i don't spend my time watching any of our league fixtures, this is an obvious act of stupidly in the highest order, this is just a match bought with how little amount for ticket that should never warrant this strange display, if it was my judgment fires treats fire, getting hold of that unkind intruder is equaling his actions with severe punishment.

I'm a sports person, most people think playing football is easy and so they tend to blab a lot when players make mistakes, even on the big stage of the game there is lot's of pressure and concern that may cause some unintentional error. Players in the Premier League makes worst mistakes meanwhile their pay is far bigger than the Nigerian League, mentalities like this needs to be changed, setting this one guy as a victim so others with similar thought should learn and be aware of the consequence and each time it should get worst by punishment, football is a game of love not a die affair.
