Looking at the last fight of Loma, I think he is not in his prime anymore. The early 30s to mid-30s are the most common for most boxers to lose their primes. I believe Haney will be the stronger and faster guy and he will win against this version of Loma. As a huge fan of Loma since the start of his pro career, I hate to see him lose. Maybe Haney cannot make the weight and just move up. Cheesy

Haha you got me there! Grin

But anyway, I agree with you and as a fan of Lomachenko, it's really hard to see him on this phase where his prime years has ended quite early than expected despite the fact that he's still on his early 30s. I'm expecting that he will at least achieve the rank of Devin Haney before his career goes down but I think that's too much to ask because his recent fight reveals that he's not the kind of Loma we used to know. Devin Haney will definitely win this fight as Loma's sole advantage is his IQ in the ring, which Haney also got it and explains why he got the rank of being the undisputed in the lightweight division.

That's the beauty of this fight, one has an advantage over the other, not a total mismatch that bettors would always pray that the result will be an upset lol.

They say that you are only good as your last performance but I think its not the scenario with Devin Haney because IMO, the style of Kambosos is tailored-fit for Haney to look good in the ring, and no matter how many times they fought the result will be the same.

For Loma's last fight, though we think he lost some steps in there but probably ring rust was also a factor as he was fighting a war in his country for months until he decided to fight again in the ring and his performance was way beyond our expectation but for me this would not be my basis if i'm going to bet on this fight as Loma will prepare hard for this fight as this is the biggest for him because a win is a career record, a unified title.

So who are you rooting for?

Kambosos actually had a good chance against Haney in their rematch had he stuck to the plan. Haney had a difficult time when Kambosos was quickly switching from southpaw to orthodox and vice versa, but it seemed like Kambosos could easily be frustrated within the fight and that's enough for him to lose focus and forget about the strategies and the trainings. And everything would wound up as a replay of their first match.

I don't think this would happen to Loma in this match. I can't imagine the veteran acting a bit childish inside the ring. And I don't share the early odds released. Loma at +172 and Haney at -225? That's too much underestimation for the legend and overestimation for the boring undisputed champ.

We'll see. I'm cheering for Loma!

Not be easy for Haney to just move up in weight and forget about Loma or make it easy for Loma to take all the belts because that's what his goal is at 135 lbs. Loma is known as hi-tech so that says its, he is on a different level as setting up his power punches, the angle and the intangibles in the fight. So we shouldn't discount him just because of his last poor showing against a big and young fighter in Ortiz.

Sentimental favorite? why not, I mean yes maybe he lost some steps in his last fight or it is that Ortiz is not a easy opponent as he is coming back from a long layoff and it very different though, (the war is his native country Ukraine, as compare of being injured and then making a comeback), and that is one reason maybe we did see a different version of him.

Nevertheless, Loma is still good boxer even at his age and probably still the best in 135 pounds eventhough he hasn't had any belt in this division. Hopefully this is going to be sign and delivered by Uncle Bob for this first quarter of the year.

I have biases because I don't like the way Haney fights. He's a good and talented boxer, of course, in the same way that Mayweather or Hopkins are also good boxers. He probably deserves that undisputed title, but I guess I am more inclined to be awed by the fighters of Mexico or the Philippines.

I strongly believe that Loma still has what it takes to defeat Haney. This is a battle of scorecards most probably. I think Loma can manage to outpoint Haney. It's best if before the sun sets for this legend, he'll become an undisputed champion.

I'm a big fan of Loma so I'll be rooting for and will be backing him in this fight.

Bookies will definitely put Haney as the favorite on this match and that's a good thing because I'm betting for Loma all this time as the huge favorite which means I can win bigger than usual hehe.

Like I've said before, Haney is not a one-punch KO artist so this will be the loophole in Haney's armor as Loma will be moving in without fearing that he will be knocked out if he walked on a punch, unlike his fight with Lopez where he was hesitant to engage early.

Fearless prediction that judges will be having a hard decide who win on this one lol.

I believe Lomachenko can take on Devin Haney, only if his form is not the same as his last fight against Ortiz. You can see the guy slowing down and losing stamina real quick, whereas Haney's last fight against Kambosos showed how dominant, quick, and overall healthy he is albeit being the one always on the offense in the ring.

Haney will be the favorite given his overall stats and his physical attributes, but they cannot discount Lomachenko because the Ukrainian can certainly have punches that pack a lot of power. The problem is, this fight is yet to be official, and there might be a lot of hurdles along the way, especially the pay that each of them might receive. This will probably be a very anticipated fight that Bob Arum should help make a reality.

I have biases because I don't like the way Haney fights. He's a good and talented boxer, of course, in the same way that Mayweather or Hopkins are also good boxers. He probably deserves that undisputed title, but I guess I am more inclined to be awed by the fighters of Mexico or the Philippines.

The fighters of USA use defense, dexterity, and their speed to dodge blows and jabs to not give a point, not unlike Mexican or Filipino fighters that have the guts to go head-to-head against their opponents looking to finish the bout in a flurry of punches. Mayweather Jr. popularized this way of fighting and almost all of the lightweights seem to have adopted this technique, and there's nothing wrong with it if you want to win via decisions. It's just not that impressive to look at unless they do it at the level that you can see on anime or fighting games Grin

I strongly believe that Loma still has what it takes to defeat Haney. This is a battle of scorecards most probably. I think Loma can manage to outpoint Haney. It's best if before the sun sets for this legend, he'll become an undisputed champion.

He can still score a knockout if he wants to, it's just that it's difficult to catch Haney due to his speed and agility. Points-wise, Haney has the edge since his reach is quite longer than Loma. It would be interesting how Lomachenko could work around these hurdles, but I believe he can take on Haney and still come out ahead.

This is going to be a tough fight for Lomachenko. If this fight really going to happen, then Lomachenko is going to be 35+ years already. While Haney only 24. I see that Lomachenko has difficulties against younger boxers (Lopez is a good example). I think the time will take its toll and in this fight Haney is going to win by decision. Loma is not in his prime anymore. He fights rarely. Compared to Haney, whos career is in prime. While this fight is not 100% confirmed, the time is working against Loma. 3-4 years ago I would go with Lomachenko, now I am in favor for Haney.

Lomachenko had a problem against Lopez because he claimed that he had an injury that time, so this time I believe he is already 100% healthy and there will be no more excuses in case he will lose against Haney. This could be a big fight for him but it's not new to him, maybe this is a tough fight for Haney too as I believe he hasn't face a boxer that is as smart as Loma.

He made a good comeback fight after that Lopez lost, he beat Nakatani and then Commey if my memory serves me right.

But against Ortiz it was a different Loma that we think he is no longer in his prime and others have said, 35 years old. So that is already a lot of wear and tear on his body. While Haney is young and very tall and a good boxer too, that's why this fight is going to be very difficult for Loma. And this could very well define his career, if ever he will beat a prime fighter.

Well, sports analyst thinks that prime age range is 25-33, and Loma in age of 35, it is possible that he is on the decline of his prime.  Although I think this can be solved by training and conditioning, there is no doubt that Loma's performance is pretty mediocre during his last fight.  If Loma plays the same, I think he will be eaten whole by Devin Haney.  Devin Haney aside from being the larger player, he is also known for his defensive play and counters that render his opponent unable to connect or score a good punch.  Loma need to level up his performance if he needs to beat Devin Haney in this match.

GGG is 40 and still shows boxing on a high level. But time takes it toll. I can not be young forever. You can rely on an experience, only when you fight younger opponents. But Haney is not just young, he is talented, a champ, one of the best, he is in his prime. GGG vs Canelo third fight - it was understandable that the time of GGG is gone, he was not like GGG in their first and second fight. I think experience wont help Loma much in this fight against a younger opponent. If it wasnt Haney, then I would bet on Loma. But this time young beats elder.

Loma though has started a different kind of training with his father, unorthodox, I can't confirm though, maybe he was really affected by his father not training him, can someone confirmed me if his long time trainer and coach Anatoly Lomachenko is in his side in the Ortiz fight.

So it's a mental thing for Loma right now, and that's why others said that he is no longer in his prime.

But maybe the absence of his father could have a negative impact on him, hence his poor performance, in my opinion.

~snip~

It if goes to the judges scorecard, it might be very difficult to score it, specially if there is some close rounds, who the judges are going to score? the aggressive one? or the one who play good defense that the other boxer is missing his punches?

I do agree that one drawback is that Haney doesn't have the power to knockout his opponents, and Loma is a mover, and that will make things complicated for him. While Loma is very accurate in his shots and who knows, he might caught Haney with a good shot and maybe put him in the canvass in the later round. And that could be the perfect ending for this fight, hehehe.

This is a big test for Loma and I will trust him to win this fight because I believe that he will be listed as the underdog, and with that, it means the odds are very attractive while there's an assurance that the fight would be entertaining to watch. Haney maybe young and is on his prime, but he should not underestimate Loma as anything can happen.

Oh yes, for Loma backers here and for sure there are many from our boxing fans, it will be good to see him as the underdog, not that much though, probably in the 2.0x range or something. But still it's a good odds for us straight ML bet and just enjoy and wait for the results.

So it's a big test, and do hope that Loma is back mentally and physically. Ortiz fight is a different for him to that point that we judge him as no longer in his prime.

But I do believed that this is going to be a close fight and not going to be easy for Haney even if he turns to be the betting favorite.

Exactly, Haney will not dominate here completely as Loma has not been dominated yet in his boxing career. He use to be the one who dominate his opponent, so until I see that scenario against him, I would not think that Loma is already not good enough for a fighter like Haney who are still on his prime.

If these odds are true, then Haney is the heavy favorite.

That will surely attract bettors if Loma will be listed at +172 in the bookies, however, since it's just a prediction, then we cannot ensure we will see the odds once their fight will be announced or official. Loma had only few fights in his career but most of them are against a quality opponent, that's why the boxing community has huge respect on him and he had a great ranking on the pound for pound during his prime.

Well, there's only one way to find out if Loma is indeed way over his prime these days. I agree, let's just give the man some time to adjust because he's was probably struggling in that fight as he was away for some time because of the war that broke out in the north. Not underestimating him either, but just like how you describe Haney, he is truly different from the rest which explains why he is the undisputed in the lightweight division. It will be a tough challenge for Loma to fight a boxer that has an upgraded version of what he was in his younger years.

I do agree that Haney is different as compare to other champions, just like Floyd, only not a big puncher but he win fights by this defense first and then to counter. So it's just a question on how Loma has adjusted since his fight with Ortiz because we have to admit he didn't look good that some sports fans and analyst say that he is not his prime anymore. But we will see, this fight is for the undisputed and if Loma is really what he is, then he can go a notch on his skills and beat a prime Devin Haney.
