OP, have you done the actual calculations on that "regret" of yours?

Keep in mind, if you accepted that offer and you bought that property, you would have dealt with a lot of extra expenses, namely :

1. Maintenance and renovations of the apartment
2. Paying levies
3. Paying for utilities
4. Paying for transfer duties
5. Paying commission to the sales agent
6. Sacrificing compound interest on the money, if you simply put that into the Bank.

So, it might not have been such a huge mistake, if you take all that into consideration. My biggest regret might be that I did not buy more bitcoins when I first bought bitcoins at $300+  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Yes, I had experienced such financial regrets that made me to make up my mind to work hard, so that I will have enough money and investments all over my country so that I will not encounter such challenges in my life.  If you work hard and save more money like what some of the wealthy men and women are doing in my country to maintain their wealth , I believe you can also become one of them if you can plan well by investing in Bitcoin and other business. Many people experienced financial regrets that made them to be serious in all they are doing in life, to ensure they get the right results that will make them not to experience such financial regrets again.
if regret makes us work even harder and look at things positively then that's a good thing, but sometimes many people fall mentally when they have a regret in life so that it drags on and makes a bad influence on life.
what you do to get up and keep going in a positive direction is an extraordinary thing that not many people can do.

my financial regret is when I missed a lot of moments for me to be able to take advantage but I can only watch it without being able to do anything because I don't have the money to get into it, maybe that's a common thing that happens to many people but I keep trying like what you did to make it a motivation for me to work hard.

I have a lot of financial regrets and just like yours, most of it are investment opportunities that I saw before and was doubting if I should buy or not. In the end, I didn't because if I did, I may have just been living in luxury today.
We don't really have to go that far in picking one of the biggest financial regrets in our life. BITCOIN! A very long follower and yet I was always late when I try to buy. It's not really like a regret but more of getting the courage. I should've taken a loan from the bank and bought it with Bitcoin while its price is at 3 digits. But because there's so much FUD that circling around, I was afraid to take the leap.

Life is about choices and we all are on the path led by our choices. It's not easy to talk about life regrets in general because we are/were in quite different situations. To make this thread easier, we just focus on the regrets in finances. I believe many of them can be lessons to learn from. I'll start first. Over a decade ago, I was living in a mega city of my country. At the time, the city was already a metropolitan place where you can meet all people over the world. Of course, the land was scarce and the price of housing was pretty high, nomal people could not afford to buy an apartment, let alone a house. However, one friend of mine was taking to a suburban area for an apartment, super nice but the neighborhood was not fully developed yet. The total cost of that departemtn was about $100,000. Well, I did not have that much money at that time but if I borrowed some from my parents and it was not a problem. Maybe because I was too young and did not get along with my parents at the time, I did not ask for that so I refused the offer and let go of that apartment. A few years later, the suburban area became part of the CBD and the housing price was going up insanely. Today, that apartment I missed is worth at least $1.2 million. Oh my... I hate myself for not buying that apartment every time I think about it.
Different people and almost everyone has some financial regret. Maybe it could be a mistake they made in the past.

It could also be an opportunity that slided because of lack of capital.
It could also be an opportunity that slided because of lack of information or receiving of negative advice, but you should not allow yourself to dwell in the past. They should all be the bedrock upon which you have build your experience to succeed and survive going forward  I refused to Look back at those my failure because they are so imminent and could pull me back, but there are better opportunities ahead.
Every successful man has made some big financial mistakes at the past.

It happened 4 years ago when etherum really fell to $100, I still remember having more than 4 etherum in my wallet and even around 6 eth. But at the time i only thought to have money, money and money that made me exchange etherum to my local currency at that same time. 2 years later in 2021, I was shocked to see etherum hit $4000. Gosh, if I'm patient and think long-term investment, thousands of dollars should have been able to become my savings.

I think almost everyone has regrets at some point in their life, especially when it comes to finances. Not buying or selling here or there or investing here or not investing there. Something like that just happens in life and you have to learn to deal with it. As the saying goes, you're always smarter afterwards.

As in your case with the apartment. You may regret your decision today, but who knows what might have happened if you had bought it. Maybe then something bad would have happened and you would regret the purchase.

Therefore, you have to see everything a little more relaxed and should not regret such decisions.  Wink
Oh, the woes of regret! We all carry them, do we not? Whether it's the missed opportunity of investing in Bitcoin or declining the job that could have turned our lives around, we all experience those "what-if" moments. But, truth be told, regrets are an inevitable part of life. We cannot always make the correct choices, and that is alright. After all, "to err is human, to forgive divine." So, instead of ruminating over what could have been, let us concentrate on the present and what it has to offer. In your instance, it is understandable why not purchasing the flat might make you regretful. But what good is it to brood over it? We cannot reverse time and alter the past, so let us look forward to what the future may hold. Maybe something even more excellent is just around the bend!
To be fair my life is pretty good right now, I agree that it would have been awesome if I bought bitcoin earlier, or even kept the bitcoins I had for longer period of time so that I could have profited even more. But none of that changes the fact that I am happy with my life.

Of course bad things happening all the time, plenty of terrible things happened in my life in the past 2 years, but I wouldn't say that it made me sad, I could say that it made me realize how much I love my life and how much I should be grateful for. Bad things shouldn't make you upset, bad things should make you fall in love with life and acknowledge all the good in it.

Everyone has their financial regrets, I had a chance to buy good numbers of Ethereum years ago and it costs me around 1000$, I don't know how valuable Ethereum will be in the future so I sold all the coins and instead invest on one shit altcoin, I end up losing all the money, I also bought mining rigs at the wrong timing, so I was unable to make back my money, though, this was because Ethereum is no longer a proof of work project, if not, I would have made all my money back right now.

Mistakes in finance are the most important thing to pay attention to if you want to be better in the financial aspect and I'm sure everyone must experience it both the upper, middle and lower classes economically, I also experienced it, especially at a young age filled with ambition and curious about everything so sometimes careless decisions that cause deep regret and ask (why did I do that), but in this case sometimes there are people who continue to do it (like gambling to seek victory) and sometimes there are people who consciously correct it and it's people like that who might have the potential to be rich and better people.
The deepest financial regret for me is why I sought victory in gambling in the past, and sacrificing my assets.

When it comes to missing financial opportunities, there are two things involved for it to spark a necessary regre and unnecessary regret.
First is, having the resources available to getting the opportunity but you blatantly refused and decided to wave off showing no interest. While the second is, having the all interest to grab the financial opportunity buy with no available resources needed to achieving such opportunity, despite all efforts put down to getting it there was no way cause the resources to attaining the opportunity was lacking.
In the first case it's a situation of a necessary regrets where you had all it take to grab the opportunity against the future but you refused to grab it as a personal decision, only for such opportunity to gain a mind blowing value in the future. Such scenario the regret is one of necessity and deserving. While in the second case, it's a fault not yours that you couldn't grab the opportunity, you did all you could, only that the resources wasn't available at then to use to grab the opportunity against the future, so the regret for today becomes one that is unnecessary and not your fault. One sad part about life is, there are situations we are ready to taking great futuristic opportunities but there's no available resources to backup  ... How sad!

It happens that we sometimes missed opportunities because of our financial capabilities. Yes, it was regretful but never we could think about blaming ourselves for it because not all opportunities are meant for us.
In your case OP, you have the capacity to take the offer but refused it because of a lack of courage. But never take it hard because there might be even better than that opportunity. Besides, buying that area couldn't make you rich unless you develop it so well. Meaning, you still need to spend another hundred dollars again and I'm not sure if you are still able to do that.

You are right, based on your description above that OP must have other funds for financing purposes for employees and maintenance of the apartment, you don't need to regret it if you don't have enough funds to buy an apartment and even you plan to buy it from loan funds. So don't just consider apartment prices being 10 times higher than before but you don't calculate all the other costs over the years before apartment prices increase, even though experiencing high gains from apartment prices are already high but not a guarantee beforehand but just luck that the area becomes an area CBD or city center that has developed.

It just similar like what most Bitcoin holder is saying, if Bitcoin price was still $3,000, I will use all of my money to buy Bitcoin. Every people always have any financial regret, but it just depends on the person, does he want to learn to maximize the profit? or he will just keep blaming himself and not want to invest it when the price is already higher than before? What do you and everyone need to know is, $69K isn't the peak of Bitcoin price, the peak is very very higher than that, so don't miss the moment.
I guess we can’t avoid from experiencing some financial regrets because there are really instances that even if you want to, time won’t allow it to happen. Or you chose not to make it happen and it sucks since you regret it later on. Just like bitcoin, missing some buying opportunities like when it was at its low and affordable price, always keep us regretting now especially that bitcoin price starts to surge high. However, if we keep on dwelling from our regrets and chose not to learn from our past mistakes, then we will never grow and learn from it. So we will just keep doing the same mistakes and regret it again and again until we end up quitting from it.

There's such thing called "fate" which some do really believe on it and some doesnt really care because we are the ones who do mold up into your future in relation on what actions that you had made out along the way.
If i do see that i had missed out some golden opportunities then i do just simply move on although its hard and not that simple but there's nothing we can do because whats done its done.We cant really go back and trying to correct up things and tending to alter out the past which we know that its impossible. There are lots that i had missed opportunities which might had already made out rich as of this moment if ever
i had continued it out.

I think when I've got that much savings, eating out is one of my regret. But who can blame me if I like to eat out and I was single back then and I'm doing everything I wish to do.

In terms of finance, I regret that I spent mostly with food but the experience and the appetite that's been satisfied by me doesn't have regrets at all.

I guess that's it but other than that, it all relates with the other regrets in here that's all about investing in bitcoin and other altcoins that have pumped a lot.

One of my biggest regret.

1. Earned ETH through faucets and accumulate some significant numbers and lost the privatekey of my wallet
2. Seen up Binance coin (BNB) was still too cheap but didnt dive in on accumulating it.

I have those hints and intuition that this would become big in the future but since into those times which i do still have lots of money
where i had just simply ignore those bigger opportunities which even up to these days where i do keep on being haunted
with these regrets.

honestly, shouldn't sweat over the fact that you missed chance of buying some liability because it will just become a burden, and honestly it shouldn't fall under category of financial regrets either, since it will affect your financial badly, regardless though if the property you were regretting over could somehow give you money from the rent then I guess it could be your financial regrets.
one of my biggest financial regret is because im hesitant in dumping the coins around bullish that i missed the chance of generating tremendous profit because i was overconfidence that the bullish gonna goes on forever, it's always funny when bearish most of us would have the thought that current bearish will be the doom of cryptocurrency and when bullish comes in we also have the thought that this bullish season gonna last forever.

Today, that apartment I missed is worth at least $1.2 million. Oh my... I hate myself for not buying that apartment every time I think about it.

Don't regret it. You had no money at that time and you felt bed begging your parents for it.

I know a lot about it because my father is wealthy but he wants everyone to literally beg and thank him. He's a narcissist so one time when I wanted some money from him he asked me to ask him nicely like "my dear, most generous father, I would really appreciate if you gave me the money" and then I'd have to kiss his hand. I'm not joking here. I didn't do it and after some time he sent me the money anyway but it took like 2 years Cheesy

The only thing I regret in life is not buying more bitcoin when I had the chance.

Haha, I laughed out as I read your comment. Yeah, I know how that feels. My father is the exact type of person as your father. What I can not tolerate him is the superiority over everyone or everything. As we all grow older, he is a bit better now but I can still feel the personality issue there. As I have been financially independent for many many years, he is kind of disappointed that i don't need his money any more. Well, I think this is good for both of us.

I just remember one of our relatives, my aunt, saying that every time she gives you something like money or clothes, you need to post it on social media and tag her to thank her, and if you are not doing it, she will curse you for not saying thank you to her even if you do it in front of her. She wants attention over social media, lol. Anyway, if we just knew the price would go up like this, even though we are poor, we would be saving to buy a lot of bitcoin, but again, we discovered bitcoin a few years ago.

Most people do. I could have done this, I should have done that but for some reason I haven't. It is not healthy to overthink our past mistakes. Maybe they weren't mistakes at all. Maybe those mistakes were the part of our learning process.

Oscar Wilde once said:

"Experience is the name we give to our mistakes."

The other saying is:

"To make money, you need to spend (or lose) money first."

Well, we do have our own regrets in certain phase of our lives. Even people who are living in luxury are not excuse from it. But the good thing is, we don’t let that regrets bother our future as it’s part of our life’s learning process. If we lose, then so be it. That won’t mean that we will lose again in the future.

Letting go of our regrets even if it’s hard is really beneficial so we can grow and move forward. After all, we live life not to regret but to live it the fullest and be the best of what can make us happy.

Exactly! I totally agree with you there. There's just no point in grieving over missed opportunities. It really is better to be in the here and now and see what good opportunities are now and are yet to come. If we all always made the right decisions, we would certainly live in a different world. Besides, who can say which decision is really the right one. We always only know the results of a decision, but not the result if we had decided differently. Maybe these would be better, maybe not.  Smiley
