For now we could agree ethereum is top of altcoin right now. Many projects use ethereum network and it is so popular. But, there is no guarantee that ethereum will stay on it throne maybe someday any coin will replace it place.

To me, bitcoin was the creator of the crypto industry, but it was ETH that helped the market grow and become what it is today, most of the altcoin market was born out of ETH. True. With all the competitors, They just can't afford to beat ETH because of they just built the foundation of ETH right. From the users, developers and those former miners, most of them just can't abandon ETH for the better copycats. Maybe one day, There will be a altcoin project that will surpass ETH in terms of volume, users and the community trust but as of now ETH is the reigning king of altcoins and I don't think that it will be replaced by any altcoins easily. ETH is definitely the king of altcoins.  And ETH chain is very popular and powerful chain and it is widely used.  However, due to the increase in the price of eth, its gas fees have increased significantly.  Which is why smaller companies are moving away from the ETH chain.  But no matter what ETH will always be the king of altcoins. And for long time investment, ETH is preferred by investors after Bitcoin.  And when one is interested in investing in altcoins one must think of ETH first. and this is the truth

High gas fees have been the major scalability challenge for ethereuem and even though ethereum chain is highly suitable for other project development but the cost of carrying out transactions on the network and also how network congestion have made a transaction to take a longer time and cost high.

-Even though the network migrated to ethereuem 2.0 and was expected to solve so many networks issues it still looks as if nothing had really changed and same problem is being faced and that is why developers are now looking to other chains for their token development even though ethereuem is king.

Well no doubt about that, although many altcoins out there have a good smart contract either but in the journey Ethereum takes almost all events in the market and still standing until now. I hope that Ethereum will keep at good performance since there are a lot of new competitors out there if Ethereum can't keep up then it will step down from being the top altcoin.  

I think ethereum wouldn't really be worried about it considering it has a marketcap more than the double of anyone that is even close to it, so it is not really going to be that much of a tough thing to keep its position.

I understand that people keep talking about potentially taking that place, and there are many coins that wanted and even tried it, but we all know that ETH is so far ahead that it would take other projects maybe do 10x while eth doesn't move an inch, which is very very unlikely. This idea gets more popular during the bull periods because we see projects grow to a high place, and ETH has huge marketcap so it can't go up as much as those, but they forget that the higher you go, the less price increase you get.

Ethereum is definitely the king of altcoins. Quality projects still prefer Ethereum, although it has some disadvantages. I don't think we will be the determinants and decision makers on this issue. As long as developers continue to prefer Ethereum, it will continue to be king. If this choice had been left to us as the masses, the king of altcoins could be TRX. Fortunately, there are quality projects and future-thinking developers. :)

For me, I accept Ethereum as the king of altcoins. So far, Ethereum is always following Bitcoin. Although there are tons of altcoins and latest technology and better considerations I still believe Ethereum to be the best altcoin for me. although BNB is probably coming, others are also like Matic, SOL, and others, for me, Ethereum still becomes the best one.

Looking to a long-term future, I have absolute faith in ETH and those who are building.

Some comments are disappointing, some people don't really know the difference between ETH and Ethereum. ETH is the coin I learned while Ethereum is the blockchain itself. ETH has had its success after Bitcoin as alternative to proof of work but we cannot deny it has had rough journey to the way other altcoins have had and moving from proof of work to stake has made it centralized blockchain and another problem I think the blockchain has is the fee, they should do something about the fee it consume to make a transaction, it is not for the average people to use every time.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of bitcoin or any other coin. I want people not to forget what our mission is when entering this market, we are here to make a profit, not come to worship or serve something. Investing in bitcoin or altcoins is all about profit, so don't focus on just one thing and ignore bigger opportunities. But investing in altcoins is very risky, so we need to know who we are and what our abilities are, don't be too subjective, and don't invest what we can't lose.
