Gambling addiction is real, and it not only destroys, but it kills as well, I have a close friend who ruined his life and family because of gambling addiction, he lost his wife and son, the woman could not bear it any more, she took her son and left my friend alone.

Gambling was supposed to be for fun purposes only, but unfortunately, many have turned it to a business, and today, we have alot addicted gamblers on the streets, with some so addicted that they don't even know that too much gambling is their problem.

my opinion most of the time what happens is that people by isolating themselves from other people and start gambling online then start to develop gambling addiction, and it becomes too late when other people discover this, people who are not employed they work much more, they receive a low salary and then they have many bills at home to pay and as they do not earn much money at work, they even isolate themselves from co-workers because they think they are inferior to co-workers, and when they find games of chance then they look at the gambling as a great refuge and also a chance to earn money to get out of the hell of their lives, but the problem starts when they lose money, they are not satisfied with the loss so they take their salary and put it to gamble and lose everything again, and as a salary it is something that only comes at the end of the month so they make debts to continue playing and the result is addiction and suicide

also in rich people who can't see what to do with so much money that when they start to get involved with drugs, sex and as that is not enough for them then they get into gambling, but gambling addiction is much more problematic , so these people lose a lot, despite being very rich and not becoming poor they get depressed and commit suicide for not being able to get out of depression. at the end of the day we can talk about playing moderately, but there are few people who play moderately, unfortunately

It's true, but as nobody likes to lose, people get carried away by emotions, for example if a person takes 10$ and buys chocolate or pays a prostitute to have sex, that person feels satisfied, because he didn't lose money. but if the same person takes 10$ and puts it in a casino and loses everything, that person gets irritated, that's because he didn't do anything with the 10$, he simply lost to the casino. there will be a greater chance that person will play again to recover his money and he will lose again

OP, you speak sense. Especially people with addictive personality should tread lightly when it comes to gambling. Even if you got rid of some other addiction like booze or cigarettes, gambling is whole another beast. It's fun and that's only thing that it should be. If you are not gambling skill based games it's should not be a living.

Yes you can win big but reason why you get hooked in the first place. That and it's a way to spend time. In fact mostly latter. People get hooked on playing with play money as well.
But another reason for it is that humans are not wired properly to understand probabilities and percentages. If people could choose to get a smaller win with 100% probability, then significally higher payoff with 39% probability.

This is true, even if you say you are just playing for fun but deep inside there’s a hope for you to have wins because reality is, you need the money and you gamble because you expect to win. Its not easy to control your emotion, but again you have to try and do your best because too much emotions are not good in gambling. The fact that a person set aside to allocate for gambling seems odd for some of these religious groups and then judges us about it. Not even thinking that each of us are different. But it's what they've been taught by their leaders as well.

I still hard to believe if a gambling addict will stop and realized if they was wrong with their gambling habit, because there are many gambling addict get forced by their parents to not gamble and get kicked from their company, but it doesn't make them to stop gambling.

Also gambling moderation also helps.  We often forget discipline when we got hooked on something.  So it is best to moderate our activiy to practice self-discipine in gambling.  That also falls under responsible gambling.

I agree, in order to resist the temptation of gambling, we can initially remove our allocated funds for gambling and put them somewhere else.  This is one of the effective moves in hindering gambling addiction.  Take away the attention from gambling and get busy with other activities.

The problem with posts like this is that the majority of users in this forum are going to criticize those who lose, telling them it's their own fault and their own problem, but indeed - what you say makes a lot of sense - suicide rate from gambling is on the high and has never been so high....

At the long run, the quest to make more money without any stress or with very little stress is what actually drives alot of people into greed and most times in gambling, greed leads to major depression and at the long run, one ends up fustrated.
