Addiction is a really bad sickness I tell you, and it's not limited to gambling addiction alone, all forms of addiction is something we all should avoid..
I could also relate to having seen gambling addiction destroy a close friend of mine, he was the one that introduced me to gambling, but me being very conservative with things like this, I was very careful from the beginning..
My friend gambled, wasted not just money, but time and resources, until his wife, out of anger and his refusal to change, left him, and took his son with her, it was a really bad experience for me, but I don't know if he really see it that way as he claimed, cus even till now, he hasnt stopped gambling like before.

I have always wanted to ask this question and reading your comment made me have the push to ask, what are the characteristics of gambling addictions and how best can one avoid becoming a victim of that problem, I am told that addiction is a philosophical problem as a result of mental disorders.

While we are doing this assisting stuff, we need to give more understanding to the person.  We should always act kindly and we can offer advice but never nag him of his wrongdoing.  The fact that he admitted that he is a gambling addict and presented himself for rehabilitation means he is wanting to have a change.  It is hard for the patient to adjust especially since gambling addiction had rooted on his system.  The guy may have some behavior issues but we must understand him and adjust accordingly.

It is very useful to have people around to remember you what is important and what is just a silly game. If you feel you are going a bit over the line try to stop, and if you cannot it is the moment to call for someone to help you. As what I can see from most gamblers they tend to chase their losses as what the OP has stated, coz they think that they can recover them by the next turn but in reality it's not that simple coz there are so many factors involved when you are gambling.
