With old rules of UEFA, Dortmund will not be able to join Champions League 2024 - 2025 if they don't complete a season in top four but with a new rule applied since a next season, a fifth position in Bundesliga will be enough for Dortmund and they are exactly at this position with good gap with a sixth club in Bundesliga.

It's not first time Champions League have a club to participate in semi final, final and even become a champion, when their position in domestic league is not too good, at position beyond top four. With new rules, Dortmund don't need to win Champions League to be eligible for its next season, a fifth position in Bundesliga will be enough for them.
