I thought at first from your topic title that the individuals had physical deafness until I read the entire message and this is why I decide to comment since the title is misleading because there is a difference between ear deafness and not listening to advice and I think in this situation you have over-emphasis and push too much.

Initially my first reaction to the heading was, What? I thought that a few gamblers might have met with an accident that caused hearing loss. We tend to see such heading in main stream media as click bait. Coming back to the topic, any kind of addiction would alway make the addicted person behave in the same manner. This is not only applicable to gambling alone, if you tell someone that what he / she is currently doing is not right they tend to argue and claim that you're only jealous of them and you want them to stop doing what it is that they are doing so that you can take over and start benefiting from it yourself.

In the case op mentioned it seems like the person is not the dogmatic type and he's ready to listen to others and take advice so that they can improve their life but if it was the type I described above ( the dogmatic type, the one that's always looking for what to justify their activities even when it's clear that it's wrong) they will never listen and that could be attributed to being "deaf to advices".

What gamblers hates most is telling them to quit gambling, if you wanna ever make some friends on a betting shop or casino shops never tell them to quit rather encourage them.
The only way to draw their attention to you is early morning or at night, probably when they wants to have their dinner at this point there's nothing much about gambling in their mind.

What I think is that people are different, but most people that are addicted to gambling may likely not listen until gambling teaches them life lesson. When I was in school, my friend advised me but I did not listen. When out of school, I mean after I finished the final year in school, I met new friends and some of them know that I am gambling and using too much money for it. Many of them advised me, I thought they were wrong. When I lost huge amount of money a year after, the money that I supposed to use for something else, I changed not to be addicted anymore by quitting gambling for a year.

There are some countries that believe in spiritual attack, I can not entirely blame them because it is true, in a way that someone will attack you to be doing something you like, like adultery and wasting your money on fine young girls, gambling and drug, just for not to be a successful person in life.

But there are some things that are just natural and not spiritual attack, but people in such countries will say it is their spiritual enemies that is causing it, not knowing that they are causing it themselves. You know that something is collecting money from you, why can't you quit that thing.

That's why I've never been interested in campaigning for the site or having the casino site provide a way to get the addict to quit, when it's obvious that without the addict the casino will never have much money, so it's often laughable to see someone think like that, let's go back to the subject here is that a heavy addict who does not want to listen to advice.

A very misleading topic of yours OP, I was thinking that I wanted to learn something new but after reading the thread,that when I saw that it isn't something new. Most gamblers hates advice,when you are telling them to quit. This is because some are addicted to it and will always keep on chasing their losses believing that some day their dreams will come true of hitting it big. While some see it as fun. Those that turn deaf ears to advice on gambling will only learn from a hard lesson because they can only learn by experience and not by advice. I have experience of advising people against reducing the way they gamble and they did and also other experiences of advising addicts yet they seem not to hear. I think those that are still early into the addiction will respond to your advise than those that are deep into the addiction.

If you try helping an addict and they responded negatively doesn't mean you should stop trying to help them. Addiction is very hard to breakout from so you can get the person professional help and hopefully it helps to reduced the money and time he use for gambling.

It’s very difficult that you will advise any addicted gamblers and they will listen, they keep on believing that one day they are going to make massive money if they don’t give up, but after wasting lots of money and maybe selling their properties to gamble, some of them always come back to their right senses.

Most of them don't listen because they've heard it several times already, and there are always people who don't take the advice they hear seriously, even though it's for the better. Luckily, I don't have to spend my time helping my gambling friends since they're most likely aware and would stop on their own if they've hit their limits. I don't think I've ever met gamblers who were too deeply addicted but willing to listen to other people's advice to stop their gambling activities immediately. Most gamblers don't want to listen to the advice or words of other people who say they have a gambling addiction. Others are aware that they are becoming hooked, but they are so stubborn/persistent that even professional advice can't help them. I've met a lot but to be honest I don't think they will listen to me if ever talk to them to stop on that addiction. They are just on defensive on their actions and think that they are still fine. Maybe they just need proper guidance since most of this people is starting to ruin their life because he is in denial stage and not listening to others opinion regarding on what they notice to him. Screaming to them won't bring and end the situation at hand what I noticed mostly is that some gambler can't maintain their state of mind, whereby channeling all their thinking to gamble, there are some people who may think when they don't gamble for a day they missing alot. So the best way to get your brother out of this whole mess is to consistently calmly talking with them without any insults or form embarrassment, and what mainly attract the attention of most gamblers are lack of job, and laziness.

Not until a gambler is deaf in hearing before he can be regarded as a deaf gambler as long as such individual will not listen to advise from others, he's considered a dear ear gambler, when we are talking about listening to ideas, am not focusing on the general ideas that includes the wrong and bad ideas, but no paying attention to what could be profitable to a gambler's life is a display of deafness and should be discouraged among ourselves, things like this aren't spiritual matters but personal issues than can be dealt with by ourselves.

This is just a myth but can not be deny to some extent. I have a friend who is very addicted to the extent I am thinking its not just ordinary but spiritually. Can you imagine this guy spent his cash on virtual betting and ended up placing his smart phone worth $125. After spending 1/3 of the amount of his phone, I showed up at the scene and rescued him and bailed his phone. Surprisingly, he still went back and continue playing with his phone as collateral. To cut the long story short, the phone was seized by the agent because he was not able to settle them after playing above the worth of his phone. I rescued him for the second time after raining lots of insult and advice but who am I to stop him? Guess what... The phone has been seized for the third time and we are just looking at each other like strangers. I told him to clear half of my debt before I should give him another money to retrieve his phone. I just don't know how to control him.

I gamble also but not to that extent of exhausting my whole cash not to even talk of placing one of my belongings. This my friend has gone far by placing his father's car and the car was held by the agent until his father came to clear the bills. Tell me how is this not spiritual for God's sake.

how do I warn a gambling addict if I am also a gambler? even though I'm not a big nominal player, I still have control over the money I will put into the game.
I can't force a person or even my friends who are addicted to gambling. usually, I just remind them to rest and go to sleep for a while or just look for food first to prevent those who are too excited in game conditions that tend to be forced.
it's hard to get the gambler to stop. what may happen is from a coercive family or in certain situations he can realize his mistake.

Fortunately I don't have any close acquaintances with that level of addiction. The most I've seen is someone gambling away the month's money on the slot machine, totally absorbed, as if nothing is going on around them.

Not only a gambler but even a normal person. I’m same like this when I’m focused on what I’m doing like when I’m at work doing my project, watching my favorite movie and other things that interest me more. There is nothing wrong on being focused even on gambling because it only shows how focused and interested are we on the things we are doing. It's not deafness but our mind is not entertaining interference like when we are on deep sleep or something.

There are many who still want to quit gambling but their addiction over powers them and they get back to gambling.

It's just that there are some gamblers who are like this, usually, here they are deaf, that is, in general, a man will focus on the one job he is doing. But their behavior reveals their addiction to gambling. I've met a lot but to be honest I don't think they will listen to me if ever talk to them to stop on that addiction. I'm not the type to gave some advice but if I do I really get to the point and be frank to them directly on what are their problems and what to do to cope with it. Do not be surprised if many of us are fond of gambling, the fact is that they are not aware that they are part of the addict. I found many of these phenomena in the neighborhood where I live, although not all of them fall into the category of addicts. but many of them claim, that they play just for fun and nothing more. There's nothing spiritual about it. Getting trough to an addict doesn't happen by screaming, it happens by listening and conversation, but if you really want to have an effect, maybe organize intervention with closest friends and talk with the addict. But have your basis covered and learn about gambling addiction before doing that. Because shouting only drives the addict away from your influence. That could make them just hide deeper in themselves.

There are also ton of peer support groups in the internet, there were even some peer support threads here in bitcointalk if i recall correctly. Point the addict to those, he might even enjoy talking with people who understand them and are not screaming to them, but work as cautionary examples.

And needless to say on top of those, professional help gives you best results.

It's strange to associate deafness with gambling when it's much more likely to be triggered by other causes. I find it hard to think of a scenario where somebody could be playing casino type games for that long and at that high of a volume that it would cause this to occur. People who are enjoying what they do tend to close their senses to advice and reminders. We can compare it to a person who is in love. Despite all the advice of people around him/her because of the red flags and negative things that people can see, that person is blinded and just focus on what he/she feels. Addiction is more powerful than you think my friend, maybe you would really have to agree with me that addiction is a spirit, it lives in and controls the mind of its victim, and where it becomes even worst is if the mind of the victim is weaker and can not think on its own and counter some of the things the addicting spirit is telling it to do, this is where the whole deafness thing comes into play, the gambler in real sense is not actually deaf, and neither does he or she don't want to listing to advices coming from friend and relative, its just that the victim have other voices speaking to him or her, and those voices seems more powerful and is in Control, and the victim have not the mental ability to say no to it.

My friend your title is very misleading and the original post doesn't contain anything related to deafness. Deafness is a physical disability and I don't think that gambling could cause deafness in anyone even if they are absolute addicts. The gamblers often avoid those people who try to stop them from gambling activity and that doesn't makes them deaf. Those gamblers can hear all the words of the one who is trying to show them the bad nature of gambling. They avoid those people intentionally because they can't stop themselves from gambling.

I have seen such gamblers who would never listen to anyone even if the one who is trying to stop them is their own biological father. I thought this is literally speaking about deafness due to some ear disability or being affected because of such gambling activity knowing that most of us nowadays when we are on a pc which we do really have those head phones and i do thought that this was the cause but well i was wrong and for sure there are people who had though the same thing.
