Gambling addiction causes ear deafness?

It's easier to get addicted to online gambling, but I recently met someone who said that he isn't even aware that he was an addict until his blood brother told him that he is going too deep into gambling.

He said that he screamed to him to wake up scarily, he said his brother is his savior, but I replied to him that he is someone who listened, most gambling addicts that I have came across have closed ears, they won't listen to you when you try to warn them or advice them.

Have you meet gamblers that are going way too deep into addiction and you try to stop them and they listen? I've never accomplished that before.

I thought at first from your topic title that the individuals had physical deafness until I read the entire message and this is why I decide to comment since the title is misleading because there is a difference between ear deafness and not listening to advice and I think in this situation you have over-emphasis and push too much.

But all the same,  you are right when you said those who are addicts are not aware or simply overlook their gambling excessiveness but another person can easily notice that.

Initially my first reaction to the heading was, What? I thought that a few gamblers might have met with an accident that caused hearing loss. We tend to see such heading in main stream media as click bait. Coming back to the topic, any kind of addiction would alway make the addicted person behave in the same manner. This is common as an addicted person would never accept his addiction.

This is not only applicable to gambling alone, if you tell someone that what he / she is currently doing is not right they tend to argue and claim that you're only jealous of them and you want them to stop doing what it is that they are doing so that you can take over and start benefiting from it yourself.

In the case op mentioned it seems like the person is not the dogmatic type and he's ready to listen to others and take advice so that they can improve their life but if it was the type I described above ( the dogmatic type, the one that's always looking for what to justify their activities even when it's clear that it's wrong) they will never listen and that could be attributed to being "deaf to advices".

What gamblers hates most is telling them to quit gambling, if you wanna ever make some friends on a betting shop or casino shops never tell them to quit rather encourage them.
The only way to draw their attention to you is early morning or at night, probably when they wants to have their dinner at this point there's nothing much about gambling in their mind.

All their thinking would be to eat and take some rest, at this point you could start a gist that relates to gambling to draw all their attention, at ending of discussion you may tell them some disadvantages of  gambling that involves when someone is going off track about gambling.

To forcefully stop them is like a torgue of war were you are partially wanting to become a limitation to their success through gambling. What a gambler believe is that a day to come they must definitely strike a winning at any point in time, so they keeps trying that why you see people going worse everyday all in the name of gambling because they have focused, channel their efforts from getting Rich in gambling.

So, whenever you try talking to them you automatically becomes their enemy that wants to limit them from becoming whom they want through gambling.

What I think is that people are different, but most people that are addicted to gambling may likely not listen until gambling teaches them life lesson. When I was in school, my friend advised me but I did not listen. When out of school, I mean after I finished the final year in school, I met new friends and some of them know that I am gambling and using too much money for it. Many of them advised me, I thought they were wrong. When I lost huge amount of money a year after, the money that I supposed to use for something else, I changed not to be addicted anymore by quitting gambling for a year.

It is not a spiritual power,it is just the greed who leads to addiction and no one can stop them except strong self will.I know people who have lost their families because of their obsession with gambling,they used to stay all day in the lotto club or casino and losing a lot of money there.I know that most people will be deaf when you invite them to quit gambling as they think of gambling as an habit which is part of their life now.I am also deaf in this aspect as only I decide which is better for me but when I saw the title of this thread I was scared to death as I thought gambling to have an impact on my hearing  .

Your topic is actually something  else and at first when I came across it, I was really  interested  and wanted to know how possible this could be for gambling to cause physical deafness.
With that been said, I don't think an addict will ever pay any listening ears to advice wanting him to quite gambling  and at some point, if you persist with your advice, they might want to see you as an enemy against their success.
One funny thing about addicts is the fact that they always believe that their days of glory will come or be restored and that's one belief that has kept so many addicts trapped.

There are some countries that believe in spiritual attack, I can not entirely blame them because it is true, in a way that someone will attack you to be doing something you like, like adultery and wasting your money on fine young girls, gambling and drug, just for not to be a successful person in life.

But there are some things that are just natural and not spiritual attack, but people in such countries will say it is their spiritual enemies that is causing it, not knowing that they are causing it themselves. You know that something is collecting money from you, why can't you quit that thing.

That's why I've never been interested in campaigning for the site or having the casino site provide a way to get the addict to quit, when it's obvious that without the addict the casino will never have much money, so it's often laughable to see someone think like that, let's go back to the subject here is that a heavy addict who does not want to listen to advice.

Here maybe people already understand that it is difficult for a heavy addict to be advised to be invited to reduce his addiction itself let alone invite the casino to help overcome it, obviously it will be a waste of time, one time at the end point the addict will feel exhausted and at that point they will look for own place to reduce their addiction, so never ask for advice or force heavy addicts to stop gambling, it's very strange, so one of the keys is that everything goes back to the addict. because we can't change someone if not from himself who wants to change.

A very misleading topic of yours OP, I was thinking that I wanted to learn something new but after reading the thread,that when I saw that it isn't something new. Most gamblers hates advice,when you are telling them to quit. This is because some are addicted to it and will always keep on chasing their losses believing that some day their dreams will come true of hitting it big. While some see it as fun. Those that turn deaf ears to advice on gambling will only learn from a hard lesson because they can only learn by experience and not by advice. This does not just apply to only gambling but alcohol and smoking too.

    -   It used to be that when online casinos weren't paid much attention to, most people who went to casinos were rich and had a lot of money. But now, online gambling has become rampant and it has become even easier because it is promoted by famous influencers who don't care about their followers.

Then, when there is a gambling addict, because he is addicted to gambling, he doesn't care what his friends or family say about what he is doing in the gambling industry. Theirs is that they can get what they want to gamble in the casino.

The funny part is that we might not even know that we are a gambling addict until become conscious of our activities and people around tell us how dedicated we are to gambling. This problem of making sure that we keep gambling does not start in one day, it is a continue habit that we might not understand how we get into it. It is very important to have people around that will keep scrutinizing our affiliatiom to gambling activities.

I was once a ln addict too and how I was able to stop gambling waw still a dream to me. It will strict practice for those that are already an addict to stop and keep going. One of the things that can stop us from reducing our gambling activities is when we involve ourselves in activities that are taking our time and not giving us chance to go gamble or play bets.

It all depends on the psychology of a particular person. People who do not know how to resist excitement will always play for the full amount.

For some people gambling is their last hope and they have seen others make it from gambling so they have deaf ears when you want them to stop. If they stop gambling today they will have no other sources of income and they won't know that they're getting addicted.

I have experience of advising people against reducing the way they gamble and they did and also other experiences of advising addicts yet they seem not to hear. I think those that are still early into the addiction will respond to your advise than those that are deep into the addiction.

If you try helping an addict and they responded negatively doesn't mean you should stop trying to help them. Addiction is very hard to breakout from so you can get the person professional help and hopefully it helps to reduced the money and time he use for gambling.

Most people that are addicted to gambling don’t really know they are addicted, I came across some people and I keep on telling them they are already addicted to gambling but they keep on arguing with me that they are not addicted, they keep on saying they can stop gambling whenever they want, they are not just ready to stop, but the way those guys are attached to gambling, I know they are addicted and they can’t stop it. The way those guys keep on pumping money to gambling and they keep on losing but they can’t stop gambling, I know something is wrong.

It’s very difficult that you will advise any addicted gamblers and they will listen, they keep on believing that one day they are going to make massive money if they don’t give up, but after wasting lots of money and maybe selling their properties to gamble, some of them always come back to their right senses.

Most of them don't listen because they've heard it several times already, and there are always people who don't take the advice they hear seriously, even though it's for the better. Luckily, I don't have to spend my time helping my gambling friends since they're most likely aware and would stop on their own if they've hit their limits. Then again, if you're determined to help a fellow gambler, there are several ways to help someone that's addicted aside from telling them to stop.

I don't think I've ever met gamblers who were too deeply addicted but willing to listen to other people's advice to stop their gambling activities immediately. Most gamblers don't want to listen to the advice or words of other people who say they have a gambling addiction. They can neatly hide their gambling activities and only play gambling at online casinos when no one is around.

And your friend is really lucky because he wants to listen to what his brother says that he is addicted to gambling and wants to take advice from his brother. Hopefully, he can stop or cure his gambling addiction so he doesn't get too mired in gambling.

I couldn't agree with you more. if the person wants to leave right as he recognized he was going into deep, or even before, he can do so, or he can limit himself right away. Others are aware that they are becoming hooked, but they are so stubborn/persistent that even professional advice can't help them. So, sometimes or maybe most of the time, it depends on someone's nature/personality.

I've met a lot but to be honest I don't think they will listen to me if ever talk to them to stop on that addiction. I'm not the type to gave some advice but if I do I really get to the point and be frank to them directly on what are their problems and what to do to cope with it. I don't think they're deaf, they just don't want to listen to what others want to say.
