So, most of you here might have heard of this company (at least in the last 24 hours) but for those who didn't, here are a few links to check[1][2][3]. In short, this platform will allow its users to buy/sell information about a wallet's owner.

From my understanding, say for example you got your funds stolen, you can use this platform to post a bounty so people could help you track down the hacker's identity for a fee. I guess we think of it as peer to peer version for ChainAnalysis.

It's still unclear to me how everything works, and how data is verified but I would like to hear your thoughts about this, and the potential good (and harm) that this might cause.

- 20 years ago: Make money with PTC websites. Join Clixsense!
- 2023: Make money with PTS websites (Paid To Snitch)

When a new EMS? Northowl!

I'm trolling a bit but that's exactly what Arkkham wants to do.
Look at their own words: "We believe that deanonymization is destiny in crypto markets".

We, here, are preaching anonymization every day LOL. It's the total opposite of what we're looking to build.

edit: exactly this, a “dox-to-earn program”

Quote
the phrase “dox-to-earn program” to describe Arkham’s new oddity.

Other features we're adding to our dox-to-earn program soon:

- Wallet owner physical address

- Telephone number, email

- Social security number

- Family background, children's kindergarten location and many other identifying information!

All in a single app! https://t.co/9IgptuNpRv pic.twitter.com/Fbg6S8QJBV

I guess we can say this project is used for honeypot? because we're trusting our identity for them.

I don't think there's an entity can able prove if someone KYC is legitimate and not as long as they're not cross check with the government institutions. After all Bitcoin maximalist can't accept that because they always verify and never trust anyone.

There were few projects in the past has similar work, but I forget about the project.

One of the only ways you can get your identity publicly tied up to a certain wallet address is if when an exchange/platform gets its database leaked; at least as far as I know. Now this is why a lot of people are totally against AML/KYC platforms.

Pretty stupid

I think at one point, innocent folks are going to be harmed through false information, ransoms and blackmail.
1. How are they going to prove that the bounty posted has any good intentions?
2. The revealed information about the address is accurate?

Isn't that what walletexplorer.com does all the time? you use walletexplorer to search for other people's wallet addresses, but they provide their data to Chainalysis, which uses such services as a honeycomb to collect more data, with some available as results for this service.

We have many similar services, such as who called me, which have been popular and successful. if they manage them well and work hard on promotion, they will have a lot of data that helps them continue to provide their services.

If there's any good that will come out of this, it will certainly be overshadowed by the bad. However way I look at this project, it is way more dangerous and risky than it is helpful.

I don't even understand how a marketplace like this is legally allowed. If an open marketplace like Silk Road is taken down, why would a marketplace that is intentionally designed for people to sell and buy personal information be allowed? Is this not obviously an outright threat to the people's right to privacy?

It's also misleading for Arkham to call these analysts on-chain analysts when intel bounties could actually be offered for certain data like names and addresses.

Yes I know their recent tweet that video plays and they open a whitelist if I don't mistake

how everything works, and how data is verified

But I have the same question about this. I mean if they sell basically data so they can sell it to bad people to right that using their data for criminal or something else right?

and how data is verified I mean from where they gather all pieces of information

Everythings seems little blurry for now I will keep my eye on this

I guess the difference is the probability of some stranger abusing or issuing fake data is lower compared to this service. I don't think anyone can easily figure out real people's names just from wallet addresses unless the user posts their details publicly on social media or something else. At the end of the day though this service is going to cause so many troubles and privacy issues regardless of how the company spins its articles.

It is not necessary to know all the data, but they collect it to sell it, and there is someone else who collects your other data and sells it, and so on.
The data collected from walletexplorer.com are cookies, IP addresses, and your addresses.
After selling that data, a third party can buy it and ask Binance about the Bitcoin accounts associated with the IP address, and thus know more about you, which includes government documents, your photo, age, name.
then ask Facebook, Twitter and Google to reveal your accounts.
I am talking about government agencies or private companies that can pay to obtain this data.
