I have heard a lot of people say and believe that "if your product or service is good,  it would sell itself". That's not entirely true. 

Yes, a good project selling itself is no longer the situation in a broad market where there are already a lot of good projects that have already gained huge traction, especially in the cryptocurrency where there's already a lot of competition in the market, and the best thing a new project will do to get the needed attention if doing the right marketing and listing on good liquidity provider exchange. If the product or service is good, it will sell itself, but it will sell for how long. We should develop that product and realize that there may be the same products in the market. The better a product is, the more open it should be for improvement.

Our product may be very good, but others should know about it. In order to reach the sales we want, we must do the marketing in the best way. Otherwise, no matter how good our product is, it won't make sense if we can't sell it.

No matter how good and beneficial the project was before it could sell itself it first need some good marketing just like Arkham, Sui, etc because there's enough competition in the market already and if any good new project dev team when to get the attention of cryptocurrency investors they need to convince them with something that will slightly drift their attention to the new project just for the investors to take a peek.

I think we can say that the marketing industry is breaking the roof in the past years! TV, the internet, and billboards, in many shapes and forms! We are being bombarded from every angle, it seems there is no escape from them. It's a fact that nothing happens without marketing these days, it's what attracts the masses and what sells the product over the borders. I believe that the marketing industry will continue to grow, nothing can stop this machinery!

However, make sure that your product/services offered are one of the best, because marketing is useless if your product won't meet their expectation. They will just come and go, and just tried your product if the advertisement is really true since it's attractive.

We have also a repair business. We're making sure that every customers leaving our store are satisfied with our service so they can recommend us to others. We market our business through social media since it's free. So far our business is still running for a few years now.

That's right and right now marketing a business through social media is very effective and profitable because it's free and the reach is very wide and also right.
And indeed quality and promotion must be comparable and evenly distributed between the two, if the quality is good but without promotion it will not work well and vice versa if the promotion or marketing is good but the quality is not good it will not be successful so I think these two are important things that must be carried out with sync.

There are some exception within this but it's very rare to see a company that doesn't need it. It's like one in a million or even more than that. Word of mouth and getting some free marketing from your repeating customers is a big help.

But as a company and business, you can't always rely on that and you need to be consistent with marketing. It's true that you've said whoever thinks it's not important, needs to know more the basics of owning and running a business.

Some companies sell water and market it so well to the extent that people believe it is more nutritional than normal clean water when in fact it may just be water. 

I know people will argue and point out a few companies that don't advertise their products,  yet they're successful, but I tell you for a fact that those companies invest in marketing one way or the other.  They just might have found a formula that works for them since they most likely have a relatively smaller target audience.

If big companies like Google, Coca-Cola, Binance,  Pepsi,  and the rest still invest heavily in marketing,  then how much more you that is still a small business or brand operating on a street in your neighborhood,  or you with a laptop and a phone on your bedroom table?

The rate of Gambling today has increased partly because of the marketing of online casinos and sports betting companies. 
I don't think there's any industry today that doesn't have a high rate of competition.  It is now the survival of the fittest everywhere.
Having a perfect product or service to offer is not the only way to remain in business,  if it were so many companies won't go under. A major reason a business stays in business is through effective marketing.

Yes,  I'm well aware of how much it cost to get a billboard,  hire a marketing firm/agency,  get your ad on TV or radio or get an ad space in a magazine, or pay an influencer,  but the world has gone way beyond that and we all know it.  Now,  these mediums listed above are not irrelevant (on the contrary,  they are still very relevant ),  but there are other less expensive and easier ways to market your product. 

Take advantage of the digital world we are in today and put yourself out there.
A simple social media account that posts relevant stuff about your business and interacts with clients and potential clients is marketing.
Very few people on this forum don't use at least one Google product.  Google has made it very easy to market your products and business using "Google ads".  You can put out an ad that gets to your target audience for as low as $10 a month. You can use the cost-per-click (CPC) formula,  that way you'll only pay for an ad when someone clicks on your ad. 
Facebook ads are also very similar.  You can place an ad that costs from $1-$10 per click.  The same goes for youtube ads and many others.
These platforms have very good tools that can help you achieve your goal and achieve the objective set for your marketing campaign. 
These may seem very complicated but they're not.  There are step-by-step guides you can follow.  They also have tracking tools you can use to track the effectiveness of your marketing campaign.
If you can't set it up by yourself or you don't have the time,  you can hire someone to do it for you. 

For your business,  brand, or product to grow you have to make a conscious effort to make it more.  Your service or product has to be superb,  but I believe your marketing needs to be better.
A product is only as good as advertised. 

Yes you told absolutely correct. Product however marketing is more important. Propaganda and expansio. It is main theories for business. However your products were good if you unable to promote or marketing properly your product could not hit. Not only product all sectors this theory is effective. All company now understanding this importance day by day. And many marketing platform creating day by day. Well these days in this era where there's a lot of way to advertise anything. So if you say "marketing" in some business they would literally think of advertising in many methods such as the internet, media, or billboards and etc. You're indeed right that marketing has a huge impact to the business as it attracts customer and to encourage them to acknowledge your business or brand itself since there's a lot of business that have a similar products for example fast food. If you say KFC some would think of their signature product is the chicken and the unlimited gravy. And why do you think people would have an idea when you say KFC? Of course it's from marketing itself where they could simply see advertisement everywhere. Investing in marketing is a must, if you're building a business it should be included in your business plan or included in your budget.
