I think firstly that if you are so scared of the drug dealer neighbor, you wouldn't have stayed in the neighborhood.
I also think the drug dealer neighbor might be looking for a safe haven outside peddling drugs, that's why he asks for your help or he simply want to be able to use the means to launder his funds.

Which ever way it is, it is necessary for him to understand that it would be bad idea for him to try such.

If you are aware that your neighbor is a criminal doing illegal stuff, then you're not comfortable to be involved to that person since he's part of an illegal activities you could just say no. But if you think that might threaten you just simply tell the basic stuff and say "do your own research". There's nothing wrong for any people to join Bitcoin but if it's involve you or your safety just avoid it. We all know that due that Bitcoin is decentralized so it would be hard to trace someone's identity since you are anonymously having a transaction with Bitcoin. So it wouldn't be new for criminal to be interested or using Bitcoin since that way they could avoid being caught. I will not hold back from teaching Bitcoin to anyone who wants to get to know Bitcoin better, who I know intend to learn. I don't want to speculate about various things that are not necessarily true related to the routine activities that he does. What you have in mind is still completely possible, there is no certainty because none of that has happened yet.
Maybe he has relatives or family abroad who are being treated in the hospital, the person asked him to send money in Bitcoins then exchanged to fiat to pay hospital bills or down payment as a condition for further treatment.

I think if he is a drug dealer for a long period he must know about Bitcoin and how it works. Again they have a group of drug dealing and have many small sellers too. So they might have their own discussion about how to be secured from Administration. Maybe they teach each other's to be safe because if someone of them get caught the whole team will be in danger.

So obviously I will not ever support a criminal to do so. I will leave him with an excuse. He thinks that if he deal with hand cash or mobile banking or any other ways he might be caught and may have some clues to be caught. These people should be warned though he is your relative or a neighbor. Anyway Bitcoin isn't a legal tender till now and that's why I stopped teaching others and try to keep secret about my involved. Still if someone ask me to learn I will suggest to use Google or YouTube for better learning and obviously he must have no involvement in any crimes.

I would say the opposite, but I won't be rude to the OP. Why does anyone even know you're into Bitcoin? Are you spreading knowledge about Bitcoin in your area? Then your tongue is your enemy. Expect two things: either your neighbor will attack you one day, since drug addiction and crime always have the same face, or if you do not want to be in enmity with your neighbor, you will become his accomplice.

There are multiple opinions regarding this but if I were you I will remain clean and act as if I have nothing to do with it when they ask you because it's simple and it's plain, they want to hide their money from the government and they found you as their way to make that happen. when the police will catch them and they will get interrogated, surely they will spill your name with your knowledge of bitcoins to convince the cops and that would be a pain in the ass to set yourself free by explaining to the cops because they most likely don't care and you will need a reliable lawyer to completely free you from that.

Op the first question that will come to mind if I had to be in your position on this situation is "what will Satoshi do in such circumstance? Will he go ahead succumbed into bringing drug dealers to bitcoin ?  Obvious the answers to these questions of mine is NO. Bitcoin white paper by Satoshi explains it all the real intend of the establishment of bitcoin and not some subway to laundering ill-gotten monies.

This is one of many excuses the government's are using to backup their arguments why they had to restrict or ban the use of bitcoin in their countries. Claiming it's an easy means to starch and launder money by criminals so therefore we shouldn't give the centralized system a loophole to prove their claims by virtue of we going ahead to teach criminals how to use bitcoin. The currency was created for illegal use.

If OP followed your advice, it would be a stupid move because maybe OP only knows his neighbor is a drug dealer but has no proof of it.  if OP calls the police, that will only put OP in danger.  although the internet or social networks have grown tremendously and finding knowledge online is not too difficult, not everyone can do it.  there are still many people who still need the guidance of others when starting to learn something new, not everyone can use computers or technology devices as proficiently as we do.

This is a confusing situation you got yourself in. If you refuse to keep your neighbor in the dark about Bitcoin while he is interested in it, you have created enmity between you too. If you choose to teach him instead about bitcoin and he's been caught up with it, using bitcoin as illegal means, you are indirectly guilty as he is because you know what he is into and you refused not to report him to the drug agency to get him arrested.

If Bitcoin is legalized in my country, I don't think anything will stop me from teaching anybody about Bitcoin; so far, I will know what such a person wants to learn, which is not a bad thing. So in this case, if my neighbor is a drug dealer and I know about his illegal activity and he also knows that I have an idea about his involvement in crime, I will try and advise him to leave if he understands it, and if he doesn't understand, that is also good, but I know that will never stop me from teaching about Bitcoin. I will not care about what they are willing to use it for because I know the purpose of Bitcoin's creation is a good one. If I decide to have negative feelings about the person gaining the knowledge of Bitcoin, but its purpose is just to invest, I may be getting it wrong, so the best thing for me is to just play my role and teach anyone who is willing to learn about it.

I agree that it depends on the drug. There are nations in this world that made weed legal, so if he is a drug dealer that is doing legal work, then I do not think that it should matter, after all its everything by the law. HOwever OP said that he may use it to launder money, and that means he is possibly doing something that is illegal. In that case I would highly suggest not only not helping him, but also staying away from him enough that he wouldn't be able to ask you this. It just doesn't mean that it would work, it would probably not work at all and I would consider that as a big trouble for you. Its best to stay as far away from people who do illegal stuff as possible.

I have the idea that if you start teaching him, he will end up asking you to take care of the Bitcoin part of his business because he will have a lot more to do other than taking care of that part. That is my idea. And when you notice you will be his business "account manager". lol

You better stay away from your neighbor as much as possible. Make yourself busy and occupied so he understands it later on and won't distract you again. In the case that he is asking you about bitcoin, you simply give him the basic information but you don't teach him the best way to buy, sell and hide bitcoins. Of course, you also have to tell him to search on the internet if he wants to learn more about bitcoin.

This is why I just want to stay silent and keep myself private about my investing in bitcoin. Unless people are just too close to me and I can feel comfortable sharing them. Nonetheless, bitcoin has its own risks which is something ordinary people cannot take especially during bear season.

If I were in that position, my neighbor was a drug dealer, then I would choose to move from the area. I think the climate there is not good and if your neighbor is caught by the police then you will most likely be used as a witness, or even worse you will be accused of conspiring with him because you already know there are drug dealers but you don't report them to the police

If it turns out that my condition can't move from that area then maybe I'll choose to keep teaching him about bitcoin. I don't have to think negatively about what he's going to do with his bitcoins. I think bitcoin and fiat, both can be used to cover up crimes, and the term money laundering exists in fiat and bitcoin systems. Maybe I'll teach the neighbor as soon as possible so I don't have to deal with or talk to him anymore, because it's a bad relationship, you can get tempted and join in those forbidden activities.

This is a moral conundrum. The relation between legality and morality can be challenging. Bitcoin is a novel way to handle money, but because its anonymous, its often used to cover bad behavior.

However, teaching someone about Bitcoin does not mean you endorse their unlawful activities. There are various reasons your friend may wish to know this. You dont know everything about his goals, even if they look questionable. It may be safer to direct him to public sites where he can obtain this information.

In the end, he is ethically responsible for his actions, not the Bitcoin teacher.

Here's what I think about this situation. Let me give you an example. As we are talking about drugs, this reminds me a lot of the series called Breaking Bad. If you have watched it, you will know. As teachers, they teach students and they spread the knowledge. So think of one teacher teaching chemistry. It's his duty as a teacher to teach his students that knowledge. But it is not in his hand what his students will do with that knowledge. They can use it for good things or they can use that knowledge to make drugs. Which is bad.

So to me, Bitcoin knowledge will be the same as that. You share it with others because you thought you should spread that knowledge. But what they will do with it is not in your hand. But in this case, you already know that he's a drug dealer and he might use it for bad purposes. If you are sure that this is the reason why he wants to learn about Bitcoin, then don't teach him. If that's not the case, if you feel ok with it, you can definitely teach him. But it is really a good idea to keep your involvement in cryptocurrency a secret.
