The seasoned addict my guess is already satisfied and can just quit at any moment if he decides. It's easy to say your target but once your lust and desire dominated you that target will be forgotten, it's more on how you control and how good you are in preventing any excess, being satisfied might be a factor but most of the time when you are involve into gambling greed is something that dominates you.

I think you are wrong on this. What the OP is talking about is the scenario of someone who gambles for the first time, and what you say is true but when he has been gambling for a long time. So someone who has been gambling for a while and has developed addiction or other problematic behaviour if they have a losing streak will try to chase their losses, go for more money or even borrow it, but someone who is starting out and losing money gets bored and doesn't gamble when they lose the money they have decided to gamble.
