Hi All,

I am doing some digging into early Bitcoin trading.

According to dwdollar, the first transaction on BitcoinMarket took place at noon (their time) on 17th March 2010.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=20.msg748#msg748

Does anyone know if there is a record of how many Bitcoin this was for and at what price?

Thanks!

I am not sure about total bitcoin was traded on BitcoinMarket.com exchange but there are two articles and one topic about the exchange and trading price of Bitcoin back in March 2010.

Bitcoinmarket.com, however, provided far greater overall consensus on the value of bitcoin, presenting a price at launch of around $0.003, moving up to $0.05 in the summer of that year, which is about as far as any price chart will go back to.

According to dwdollar, the first transaction on BitcoinMarket took place at noon (their time) on 17th March 2010.
According to their post, their first trade had taken place with 4 traders. them included. If you search for transactions at that time, you'll barely find a block with more than the coinbase transaction.

In block 45689, which was mined in 17th of March 2010, at 23:51, there is one transaction with 4 inputs spent to some reused address. Here it is: 31178ebd1c8815e807d660ef7e0427b64fa6c47dc16861d0b01ce920b00df841. Transaction in block 45614, could also be that one, but it seems less likely. There are lots of inputs being spent there, whereas in the previous, it's 4 exactly.

I can't find any other transaction that happened in that day.

I too was not able to find out how many wallets were part of the first transaction. I was still able to find out details regarding it. Bitcoin.com provides information pertaining to the first transaction whereas they never wrote anything about the number of wallets doing that transaction. As per BlackHatCoiner when checking the transaction ID only four other wallets were involved. Still, it doesn't state that there were four members who were the individual owners of those wallets. I do think it is possible to find out the number of members involved in this transaction.

For people like us that are new into the system, we find these kind of stories absolutely intriguing because it is like a journey of 1000 miles and This  further affirms to us, that Rome was not built in a day.

Today, Bitcoin is one special currency in the Worldwide web that people and users of internet across the world are celebrating. Because it is a new technology that have come to stay and as time goes on, we've gotten a lot of people coming into terms with this new, amazing, decentralized technology of currency.

You can make your transactions on Bitcoin without having any fear of favour or fear of authority. Therefore, the impartiality that comes with this technology through the open-source feature embedded in it is absolutely sterling. It is as though each and every one of us within the blockchain has our individual country over the transactions that are going on within the chain.

I have never thought that there's going to be opportunity like this in a time like this, and all I can say is that Bitcoin is a pace setter and a pathfinder in the world of money and currency. Much respect and accolades to Nakamoto Satoshi.

It’s very interesting where the data for this graph came from, I’m currently collecting the first Bitcoin market data and the period from 03/17/2010 to 07/17/2010, the newlibertystandart archive has more data...

Very strange that I never heard of this exchange. I assumed the first bitcoin exchange was called Liberty Bitcoin exchange. Didn’t release that it traded less than a penny. Probably this is as far back as we can go when it comes to pricing.

However the price started at $0.003 and rose slightly till it peaked at $0.05 however the line was completely flat. So I am assuming there was barely any trading going on. I wonder how the account deposits and withdraws worked. Maybe it was by PayPal because it would of been difficult to get fiat deposits back then.

my analysis methods require more data, if I don't have data I fill it with blanks, but if there is data, why not fill it =) and the price of Bitcoin started, imho , on January 03, 2009 in the range of 0 dollars 000000 cents, although we can experiment with the date, this one seems the most obvious as the beginning of the issue... and the dataframe was eventually found, you can download all the data from the link https://bitcoin.zorinaq.com/price/ ..=)

Actually its a little confusing as according to this thread The first exchange rate for BTC was according to Liberty Standard (dated around 2009-10-05), and if Liberty standard was an exchange then it should be called as first exchange but the same thread has stated that the first exchange is BITCOIN MARKET (date is of around 2010-01-15). Well, technically exchange is a bit different than exchange directly with a person it mostly be like a p2p as speaking of Liberty standard they showed their rates and made deals through Paypal. And the first exchange is bitcoin market as it must have exchange-wise features in it.

However the price started at $0.003 and rose slightly till it peaked at $0.05 however the line was completely flat. So I am assuming there was barely any trading going on. I don't think deposits and withdrawals integration would be that much difficult plus according to the OP (dwdollar), only limit orders worked while market orders were in pending. Well, these types of topics give me goosebumps like how people could trade thousands of BTC just for $1 I mean I wish I had a time machine. haha.

Haha, this is hilarious! Just think about it, the transaction went through at a market price of 0.003$. Now, compare that to today's insane gas fees on the Bitcoin network in USDT. Calculate how much Bitcoin you could've scooped up back then! I wonder how many of the OG Bitcoin holders are still kicking and holding onto their stash. Their heirs are gonna be thanking them and making it rain of blessings every second, haha!

Unfortuanlty I don't have such OG grandfather hehe, anyway whatever I posses is more then enough for me right now I'm thankful to have this opportunity which of folks are missing still, when iits obvious about Bitcoins potnetial.

Surprisingly, the Bitcoin market even has trading volume since April 2010, it would be cool to have such data about NLS as well..

It is so wild to think that any body who risked ONLY 100 Dollars back when Bitcoin was worth 0.003 Dollars had earned a MILLION DOLLARS worth of Bitcoin by the time Bitcoin reached only 30 Bucks.

Wild.  Then to think a hundred Dollar investment held up until today would be worth around TWO BILLION.  I know the chances are close to zero that some body did that.  But still.  It is just incredible to think about it.
