I have seen that many users have live avatars on their profiles, especially in the Wall Observer thread in the Speculation board. but I am curious, can we use live signatures too? have you come across any users who have applied live signatures?
I like to know if we can use live signatures here and, if we can, what level or rank do we need to reach to use them? I could not find any information when I searched using search button. Has anyone here tried making a live signature, and if yes, could you please share the BB Code for it?

Live/animated avatar is no longer supported, those that you can still see were those that had theirs when animated avatars were accepted.

If they should change it to a normal avatar it will be impossible for them to use animated avatar again, that’s why you’ll see that they have never changed their avatar since you first encountered their account.

As for the signature, I have never seen an animated version but I’m sure it could be done but the only issue would be; does the forum allow an animated signature? The fact that animated avatar are no longer allowed should also apply to signatures too.

You mean animated signatures? Using bbcode? There's no such thing for bbcode. Now if you want the animated images on signature, it's not allowed too, the same on putting images on signature.

The same for animated avatars, its not allowed anymore. Those who have them are those who never changed their avatars since this new rule was implemented.

What's a live signature? There's no signature called like that. I only know about rank-based signatures. By any chance, did you mean something like moving objects or an animated avatar, or a signature? Animated avatar was allowed back in the day, but not now. Anyone who had an animated avatar at the time of disabling has the privilege of keeping their avatar but once they change, they can't ever use an animated avatar.
And the signature can't be animated.

Why would you like an animated signature? It’s stressful in the eyes browsing tons of post with different animation on the signature space. Only few people read all the post on each thread one by one and most of us just scan each post that makes us scroll down a little bit faster.

Also loading an animated avatar might affect the loading speed of the forum whenever we will visit multiple thread.

That's an html banner, other version of advertisement on this forum that managed by the forum admin himself, theymos. Technically that's not an animated banner either, since it's just a hover effect in css code which it can be activated by touching the banner with your cursor. Currently the html banner is disabled by the admin though.

All these are what have been existing before now but there's no more acceptance of doing such anymore, it has once happened with the use of avatar where by you discover those wearing it were those as of the last time it was allowed, if i have ever encountered any then maybe once, but for the signature one, it has never occurred and it's not also permitted, there are many things to discover about this forum with time and they will surprised you that you never heard of them before or know they ever once existed.

I think signatures are good in their current state and adding any animation would make them annoying for everyone. I have seen live avatars on some users profiles but those have been set during the times when the live avatars weren't disabled on the forum and those lucky few have kept their avatars since then because they knew that if they change their avatar even for a single time then they won't be able to get that live avatar again on their profiles.

Like @jayce said that thing is just an html banner and that isn't a live signature and surely he also said that it's disabled on the forum and that means that such kind of banners can't be applied on profiles anymore. The signatures in their current state are pretty eye-catching and the advertisers are happy with those signatures, and that's why I don't think there is any need to have those html banners back on forum.

No, it is not an animated gif; it is an HTML5 animated banner. Animated gifs lack a mouse-over function; they simply loop the animation continuously.

As far as I know, there have never been animated signatures. Signatures are made using BBCode, and since BBCode does not allow any form of animation and GIFs in signatures are not enabled by forum admins, animated signatures are not possible. What you see on the Wayback archive is not a signature but an HTML banner (you will notice that it is displayed below the post area) that were active on the forum at that time.

Regarding animated avatars, I am not sure why they were removed, but it probably wasn't due to storage issue.

It is not signature but advertisement banner. Signature space with bbcode can not be animated whilst advertisement banner is animated. Unfortunately, theymos stopped forum advertisement auctions and banners months ago. See add design rules if you are curious.

In advertisement point of view, it is not good too. You must know such animated avatars or advertisement banners are really annoying with most of forum users. You also have to know forum users can customize their profile settings to turn off all user avatars and signatures. When they do this, your money spends for advertisements through avatars and signatures will be useless.

Using it will be negative, as it attracts the eye's attention, it will cause confusion and less attention to what you post. It may lead to many people hiding signatures, which means fewer people will click on your signature links, and after a while, signature campaigns will stop because they did not get enough feedback.

It doesn't depend on your rank as animated signatures are not allowed so how come anyone have them in their signature space? As said above by @jaycee it's hovering CSS effect and admin hasn't allow to implement this so nobody can use it.

OP I don't know if that depends on rank but all I feel about that is that, it can only happen to those members who have been here for long like those who have better reputation, those prominent members per say, don't really know how to place them but you know what I'm trying to say.
Live animation or sig as you call it is some how hard to see on members like you and I. Don't take it to heart 😅 but you have to work your way through to that stage.
But why do you want to have such?  Because to me it seems you feel like having it, I'm I correct?🤔

If you ever find yourself with a question like that, just note: anything that can be abused or used to its absolute limit to earn money on this forum will be.  I have not read all the responses in this thread, and there might be a correct answer from one of our more informed historians, but if I had to make an educated guess I'd say at some point animated signatures got way out of control.

I think that's the reason why there are any rules at all here--simply to keep the idiots who'd run amok in check.  Theymos has an extremely reasonable set of "unofficial" rules, which are much more lenient than other forums I've seen.  Most of those rules probably evolved parallel to the evolution of signature campaigns.
