Before you buy a bitcoin, I hope you have full knowledge of keeping it safe. By that I mean how to keep it under your watch where you have the private keys with you or the seed phrase as back up. You should never in anyway live your bitcoin on any exchange. You can use the exchange but as soon as you are done buying it, withdraw it from the exchange and take it to your personal wallet you have set up and make sure the private keys or seed phrase is well protected.

Nice, happy to have you on here newbie, I am not so sure you already know much about crypto but I can tell it's a better choice for choosing Bitcoin, my advice is let Bitcoin be your biggest holding, since you are talking about other altcoins as well, because altcoins are not as reliable as Bitcoin.

Do your own research on other coins apart from Bitcoin, majority of other coins are scam, and also I do hope you know which crypto wallet to use for storing your assets, some are bad choices, stay away from any closed source and custodial wallets, they won't give you access to your private keys or recovery phrases, even if they do they also have access to your fund and they can steal from you.

If you have the money you can buy a Trezor hardware wallet, if not, you should download an Electrum wallet from their official website, and make sure you keep your recovery seed to yourself only.

Rushing to buy bitcoin in your first week of discovering about it could be dangerous. Not because bitcoin investment is bad, but because the security and privacy of your coin are more important than the investment itself in bitcoin. Without adequate understanding on how to secure your bitcoin and keep your seed phrase safe, you cannot have full control of your bitcoin and can be vulnerable to attack from scammers who could easily steal your coins.

I don't recommend newbies to buy Bitcoins when you're still acquiring knowledge because of the fact that you might not ready for the things to happen with your investment especially with how volatile Bitcoin is, but I guess you have a friend that will guide you through that so... yeah good luck with your investment journey.

TBH, I envy those people who have friends who are also investing into Bitcoin, and other types of investment as well. I don't have any friends that's also investing into crypto. I don't see anybody around me who's investing into different types of assets which is kind of frustrating (a little). It's good for you that you have a friend that will guide you. Not everyone has time to teach him all she/he want to know and its already good that he know the basic things since he already get some idea about bitcoin and where he can use this coin. Also good that he came to this forum since there's a lot of guys can answer his question if he post something that bother his mind and want to know certain opinion of the people. Now its up for him if he pursue it since not everyone can really handle the pressure since starting up is very hard process for a newbie. Your first suggestion is actually quite good for someone who just knows about the crypto market or Bitcoin, because people who just know about the market or Bitcoin don't need to immediately act to buy some sats. Because he still needs time to understand several things related to the market and what assets are in it, even though in the end it also requires experimenting with small funds. But experiments with any amount of funds can still be done later when he already knows more about the market and all the assets in it.
