I am not comparing Kohli with them. All I am saying is that the struggle faced by the selectors to find another batter who can bat where Kohli used to is now sorted. Either Sai or Dev can come in that position and take care of the scoreboard. Dev got his maiden century and went on to score 161 runs. That is a good sign for Indian Test cricket.

You got it completely wrong.

It's all number game ( batsman batting spot), likes of sai and paddikal were never supposed to be Kohli's replacement. Kohli bats at number 4 and atm gill got that spot.

Number 3 was earlier dravid and then Pujara, that's the spot they're competing for and comparison should be here if there's any need.

In tests, If kohli had retired in 2020 then he could have possibly made into all time world test team or give hard competition to all the GOATS.

But the way he played inbetween 2020-2025. He will have hard time getting into India's best all time test XI

I might be mistaken about the position Kohli typically bats in during Test cricket, as it can be confusing. I might have remembered his position in ODIs. However, after watching Dev bat today, it’s evident that he is working hard to secure his spot in the Test team. He fell just 6 runs short of reaching his half-century. Pant, true to his nature, played aggressively in a messy situation. Currently, India is in full control of the match; by tomorrow, they should secure a victory in the first Test match.

If India cannot pick up the rest of the six wickets tomorrow on a spin-friendly wicket that is providing sharp turn, then they don't even deserve to be in the WTC final.  .

In my decades of watching cricket, I can't remember India ever playing three left-arm spin specialists, but I still have full faith in them to get the job done. Manav Suthar and Jadeja already bagged seven wickets between them in the first innings, and now that the pitch is completely worn out, the spinners should have a field day.

It is possible they would have seen the reply . The way in which DRS was taken by Shubman Gill was not that great either. They were appealing for many dismissals, and since they had took two already in the second innings played by Sri Lanka, they were reluctant to take the last DRS that was remaining. Shubman Gill needs to improve from his defensive mindset as a captain, and the way in which he rotates the bowlers is not that great either.

India has produced some great captains who were really tactical, like MS Dhoni with his unbelievable DRS calls and Sourav Ganguly who completely changed the team's mindset, simply because they knew exactly when to attack the batsmen instead of just waiting for mistakes to happen. What I am trying to say is that Shubman Gill is not a naturally gifted leader, hope he learns with experience.

Kuldeep Yadav is not playing in this test match. India won the toss, went to bat, and lost its first wicket to KL Rahul. I was hoping that Jaiswal's bad form might again help him lose his wicket to my suprise he is still batting with Dev. I hope they continue to bat and get a good score on this pitch. 50 runs done and more to go.

After Ashwin's retirement many believed kulee would be a first -second choice for spin attack but poor guy can't catch a break.

Paddikal scored 2 back to back 100s so toughie for Sai and decent chance of him going down in pecking order. Won't mind as long as competition is tough and replacement guy outperforming everyone.
