Possibly but it'd be unfortunate for guys like Abhimanyu Easwaran who has been backup opener for a year or two.

If he has remained as a backup for more than a year, then there is no chance of him making it into the team.

Tbh that's not how it works. Yeah,  people go up and down on pecking order regularly due to performance but that's about it.

In my opinion, Jaiswal should be removed from Test cricket too. He has been steadily underperforming from 2025 to 2026. The last time he scored a century was against England. I would not be surprised if his name is not on the list against NZ in November. Did you see SKY's recent interview?

Jaiswal is a proven commodity and he did that in all the pitch conditions not just in the subcontinent, we should not come into any conclusion based on playing in good batting tracks for test, they need to be tested in good seaming conditions, and Jaiswal is closest to the best we based on criteria and also he got the habit of scoring big scores on his day. And he still have the avg around 50 after 30 test matches which is good if not a great one.

After England tour, he scored daddy hundred against windies too. He's averaging 45+ as an test opener, scored tons in Australia England on his first tour and he's only 30 odd test old, you want him to be dropped from the team?
