If he has remained as a backup for more than a year, then there is no chance of him making it into the team.

Tbh that's not how it works. Yeah,  people go up and down on pecking order regularly due to performance but that's about it.

Jaiswal is a proven commodity and he did that in all the pitch conditions not just in the subcontinent, we should not come into any conclusion based on playing in good batting tracks for test, they need to be tested in good seaming conditions, and Jaiswal is closest to the best we based on criteria and also he got the habit of scoring big scores on his day. And he still have the avg around 50 after 30 test matches which is good if not a great one.

After England tour, he scored daddy hundred against windies too. He's averaging 45+ as an test opener, scored tons in Australia England on his first tour and he's only 30 odd test old, you want him to be dropped from the team?

Recent report suggests that BCCI might be open on changing or completely removing impact player rule for good.

Players are quite open about it and called it bad one and now management asking for suggestions from franchises. Hope franchise takes the same route as players.

It will be a greater good if this happens, as the flat pitches are already making IPL matches less engaging and close. I hope franchises do not suggest anything that becomes an alternate of the impact player rule.

  @JSRAW and @Bitcoin Smith already explained this, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 175 against the West Indies last year and he wasn't even struggling at the crease, and India has only played five Test matches since then. He has already proved that he can bat in any conditions.

Most of his dismissals are unlucky since he got run out in this series, which is really bad in Test cricket. But out of curiosity, who would you replace Jaiswal with in the team.

They should remove the impact player rule. It has already killed the all-rounder spot in the IPL, and Gambhir is obsessed in finding the perfect all-rounder in international cricket with his team selection. These sorts of experiments should be done in domestic and IPL tournaments.

I do not know who to choose as a replacement for Jaiswal, but his aggressive approach has gotten him into trouble by losing his own wicket. I do not like that approach at all. I feel that in Test cricket, if openers give a good start, it reduces the pressure; if openers lose wickets early, the pressure shifts to the next batter. Dev was in form in the last two Test matches, but imagine if he hadn't been; the match result would have been different.
